I recently stayed at Haka house in Franz Josef. This was a return trip as I love this hostel. Grace, the manager was super helpful as was staff when I became sick. Privacy curtain was so helpful and they even changed sheets early as I had been laying in them for so long. Can't say enough good things about this hostel. Dec 9 thru Dec 18, 2024
This was my second visit to Haka House Wellington. The first time was when it was under the previous ownership chain a few years back.
Some of the rooms have been updated with new beds and furniture. That was a welcome discovery.
Other than that the general standing has dropped. The kitchen and dining areas weren't kept very clean, and the "accessible" bathroom which I used was so dirty at times that I preferred to go out to a public toilet...
I placed quotes around the word accessible as the bathroom wasn't really: there were no grab bars for the toilet (which was way too low) and the shower area didn't have a seat.
Altogether disappointed. I can only hope that the new management will improve the kitchen and bathrooms as they did the rooms.
