Avoid PKV at all cost

Don't do the same mistake as me. I was young and came to Germany without knowing anything about health insurance. I signed a contract with them and now I am bound for life with my whole family.

They increase the fees like crazy every year, have a very bad reimbursement behavior excluding many things, and have recently reduced the Beitragsrückerstattung. This is ridiculous.

If you have children things are even worse, they are one of the most expensive with the worst service. The worst financial decision I made in my entire life. I wish them to go bankrupt.

Really scam insurance

Really scam insurance. Say after three years being with them and almost got refused for most of invoices with none sense reasons.
They just cover whatever public insurance covers and pays itself then they don't pay in most cases or they always have some exceptions in the contract written in weird ways which it ends up with no payment.
Cancellation is also a mess and they stuck you for years
Just don't use them, you will lose your money

Worst insurer I've had - avoid

I had Hallesche as my health insurer for just over a year and I've never seen such a slow response to questions and requests, and an insurer that appeared to put all it's resources into looking for ways not to reimburse its customers. I've lived in other countries and been with four different health insurers (two in Germany) and this is by far the worst insurance company I've dealt with.

I initially only used them for a couple for simple doctor visits in the first year and even those took weeks to get a reimbursed.
Finally when I really needed them for something important they terminated my contract and became very unresponsive when I tried to appeal.

Warning for expats: if you go through a broker (like Check24) Hallesche will likely be recommended to you as a good English-speaking option but it's just not worth it (other insurers in Germany usually have good English-speaking customer service anyway).

Worst private health insurance in Germany

I recently shifted to Hallesche in March 2024 and I must say that the service is awful. I was happy to learn that Hallesche had an english customer care hotline but to my disappointment, more often than not, there is nobody to answer your calls. Even if you send an email to Hallesche, you are not going to get a prompt response. The processing of invoices takes over 4 weeks minimum and yet after waiting for such a long time, the insurance company comes up with consent requests to contact the doctors. I don't understand if Hallesche is so ill equipped, why offer services in the first place. Most other private health insurances pay out the reimbursements within 48-72 hours which makes your life easier and does not give you any anxiety. I regret making the decision to have Hallesche health insurance.

My Experience with Hallesche: A Warning to Potential Customers

Dear Community,

After enduring an incredibly frustrating journey with Hallesche, I can confidently assert that they are the worst private insurance provider in Germany.

Here’s why:

Inadequate and Delayed Communication:
Responses to even the simplest inquiries take months if they come at all.
The lack of urgency and professionalism is unacceptable.

Unreliable Support:
My direct contact, Mr. Volker Thielecke, consistently provides unclear answers.
His responses are not only vague but also arrive after months of waiting.

Unjustified Premium Increases:
Every year, Hallesche increases tariffs without offering valid explanations or improvements in service.

Deceptive Contracts:
Their contracts are riddled with hidden clauses and ambiguous terms, making them anything but straightforward.

Poor Value for Money:
Despite their exorbitant premiums, the level of service provided is abysmal.

Final Advice
Avoid Hallesche at all costs. For the sake of your mental health and financial well-being, stay far away from this company.

Hotel california PKV

Trying to cancel my health insurance as I will leave Germany and have no job there anymore (arbeitslos). However, they do not allow me to leave the very expensive insurance even though I need to be insured in a different country.

Discriminated for my sexuality by a company obviously stuck in the middle ages

I recently moved to Berlin and was looking into health insurance options. I was rejected by Hallesche for taking PreP, a government back and approved prophylaxis to prevent HIV transmission. This is highly discriminatory behaviour. It's 2021 and people asked why we need to have pride marches. Hallesche is why. Terrible experience!
