Poor communication. It took me three months to prove I paid for my taxes to be completed. They failed to let me know the extension deadline. Really poor service overall. Oh and did I mention they collected $1800 and never filed my taxes. I highly recommend against hiring this service. Save money and get your taxes completed by going elsewhere.

They never put my 2019 taxes through!

When I attempted to get in the dashboard, I could get in, but my returns were not loaded in the system. I sent Sara a message in a chat to see if there was a reason I did not have access to MY information... that I paid $300 to have them complete.

Here was her response:
"Good morning,
It looks like your account with us is cancelled. When a client cancels services with us, we shut down the portal completely. We do not want tax returns lingering in abandoned portals for security purposes. If you did not save copies prior to cancelling, you can request them from the IRS. We can retrieve client copies for you if you'd like and the fee for that is $250 each. Please let me know if that is something you are interested in.

When I logged into the IRS website, as I was doing my Turbo Tax return, it stated that I had not filed my taxes for 2019. I was confused as I paid Halon $300 to complete my taxes. Would never recommend using their services.

Edited to add: When they saw my review on here, Sara explained she would not answer any further questions- that they would all be referred to legal. #BBB

7/8/2021: After a second attempt (last night) to reach someone about my taxes, Sara reached out and explained that I did not authorize them to e-file my taxes- and that is why they were not sent. She did provide me with the prepared tax documents and how to proceed with submitting to the IRS.

After using turbo tax for a few years I reached out to Halon Tax expecting skilled service. Unfortunately my tax forms were not filled out correctly, information was left out, and I had to hire a different accountant to take care of the mess. Not only I had lots of work to re-do but I wasted all my money by using this company. Do not recommend - you’re better off by using turbo tax.

I’ve had great results with Halon Tax. As a newer small business owner, I really wanted to avoid overspending on a CPA, and I did feel comfortable enough with at least reviewing prepared taxes that I could review Halon’s work and approve it.

Our business is an S-Corp with 6 employees for context, and we’ve done our business taxes (and my personal taxes as the owner) with Halon for 2018 and 2019. We’ve resubscribed for 2020 as well.

In our first year, our assigned CPA and bookkeeper reached out and got familiar with our business with some back and forth questions. We’re in year two and everything has been smooth sailing. They respond promptly to emails and send reminders frequently for what they need from us.

I even had to amend my 2018 and 2019 taxes due to a change in tax law in 2020 I wanted to take advantage of, and they guided me through the process (which involved 3 total amendments of 2 business returns, 1 personal, and 1 revision of my outstanding 2019 personal return). Super easy.

Overall I feel Halon has delivered enormous value for its price. Since I’m more comfortable with tax issues, I didn’t feel like spending on a traditional CPA would be worth it, but I would recommend Halon to anyone knowing what I know now. I hear horror stories about unresponsive CPAs, and here’s Halon answering my emails, with all my vital data in their dashboard, easy to read.

I am currently paying a new CPA (for the second time in two months) to fix multiple things that Halon missed when filing our tax returns in 2020.

After they abruptly dropped us (right after we found them due to changes in their desired clientele and the service options they offer which now priced us out) they refused to reply to questions we had about our filed return. We were told we would need to subscribe to their new, expensive services to go over our filed return. I was also suddenly unable to access my dashboard which had all my digital copies of my return documents and they refused to reply to email requests from myself and my bookeeper to let me download them, since I wasn't continuing with their new services.

When I connected with a new CPA to have a better experience next year, he reviewed the retrun they filed and discovered that Halon did not include my self-employed health care expenses in the return. So I had to pay for him to refile and fix that. Then he discovered that they also hadn't included my husbands 1095 and the subsidy he takes through the health insurance marketplace. So, their recommendation to file jointly (we have always filed separately for various reasons) without without taking the subsidy into account is now proving to be a very costly one. Since my husband takes the health care credit from the marketplace and filing jointly changes his income to our income, thereby reducing or eliminating that subsidy. So essentially we will now owe his entire subsidy of about $4,000 back, due to their advice, on top of paying someone to refile our return two separate times.

The way our taxes were handled, without having or asking for all the necessary information was unprofessional. Their refusal to go over our taxes with us or allow us access to our documents when requested because of changes they were making to their business for the coming tax year is reprehensible.

The service and expertise of those at Halon is personal and professional. Any time I need help, they are an email or phone call away with very prompt responses. The experience and help I've had from those at Halon has given me the assurance that my taxes are done correctly and effectively. I would highly recommend HalonTax.

Halon Tax take care of all my S-Corp tax needs! Nick did a great job, even amending my return twice when we needed it. They definitely helped a lot, I'd recommend to any S-Corp owner.

I have been using Halon Tax since last year and it is a reasonable solution for individuals needing to standard accounting practices in place. With the transition from only doing taxes to a larger accounting solution time will tell if the value stays the same.

Halon is perfect for consulting and filing for small businesses. The webinars they offer are extremley helpful. They worked wonders for my first year in business, as I thought I'd owe a good deal in taxes actually ended up having a large return. Sometimes its difficult to get questions answered in a timley manner, but when they are focused on you, the service and insight is worth the wait!

Online based taxes & accounting work great. I was hesitant as first but after going through this last tax season, I can say it was a good decision.
