Customer service leaves a bad taste in my mouth

I have spent the past while debating whether or not to write a review but I feel I would be doing a disservice to others not to.
I won an item in an auction which was all well and good but in the week+ between winning the auction and receiving the invoice, my circumstances changed substantially and I emailed them in the hope they could cancel my invoice. I understand when bidding you agree to terms and conditions, however, I hoped the company would have a bit of empathy for my situation and as a gesture of good will cancel it for me but I was bitterly disappointed.
I understand they are completely within their rights to do this, but their customer service was appalling and I was genuinely taken aback by their tone/sentiment in the email. They were condescending, unfeeling and treated me as if I was a stupid child.
I am a veteran bidder on online auctions. I have always paid on time, never cancelled anything or not paid and my experience has completely put me off buying from here again.
When I eventually received the items (which I genuinely felt shamed into buying as the whole exchange put a bad taste in my mouth) they were broken and the condition was not stated in the listing/hidden in the listing.
This has been a terrible experience for me and while I understand the company was completely within their right to refuse my request, I think it could have been done more professionally and with a lot more empathy on their behalf. I wish I had checked these reviews before bidding as I’ve never been treated so shamefully by a company before and made to feel so small. It makes me sad that they see customers not as people with ever changing lives but invoices on a screen. I will not be giving my custom to this company again and I will definitely discourage anyone I know from doing the same.

Friendly, professional and very helpful.

I will admit to being a bit worried about going today when I read some of the negative reviews but my worries were completely unfounded. The approach of the staff couldn't have been better; they were friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. One of the things I took was a teddy bear that I've had since I was about 8, about 60 years ago. The chap who assisted me gave me quite a reasonable appraisal and when I could see my hesitance he asked me if I was sure I wanted to sell it. He went on to say that the last thing he wanted to happen was for me to regret my decision. I didn't feel at all pressured so I let me little teddy go off for sale. He did say that my teddy would be bought by a collector who would have him on display. I hope I get a reasonable price for him and for the other bits and bobs that I took.
If you're reading this and you're not sure how you are going to be treated by the staff there, please rest assured that if my suspicious mind was put at ease I'm sure yours will be as well.

This was the first time I have ever…

This was the first time I have ever been to an auction, and I had read some pretty poor reviews of Harper Field, so I was feeling somewhat apprehensive, but from start to finish all the staff were extremely helpful and unfailingly pleasant. The whole event was professional and well organised, and though there were hundreds and hundreds of lots, it all progressed seemlessly. there were bids online from America and Australia and all over Europe, and I ended bidding against a buyer from Bulgaria, so it was all quite exciting. They even bought round mugs of tea for everyone half way through. Paying for my successful bid was straightforward, and I took possession of my Eastern flintlock pistol Blunderbuss minutes later. All in all, I had a thoroughly enjoyable day (it was a five hour round trip for me).

Excellent experience with Harper Field…

Excellent experience with Harper Field (Stroud Auction House). I made a successful bid and travelled from South Wales to collect my purchase. The premises were easily found with a large amount of parking areas available. The staff (3) I came into contact with were knowledgeable, courteous and extremely helpful. The item was exactly as described in their catalogue and I had no issues there. I understand the premise of Caveat Emptor so I am always a little wary of buying at auction online without actually seeing the item but no problems on this occasion. I would definitely consider using this auction house again should the circumstances allow.

Only the name has changed. Not the appalling attitude.

I see that Stroud Auctions have changed their name but are still the same people. Considering the appalling treatment I received from some woman who appears to be allowed to treat customers like dirt, my advise would be to avoid this auction house completely.

Outstanding auction house

From my absentee bids, to invoicing and shippng, Harperfield Auctions have excelled in their all-round service for those unable to attend in person.
Excellent communication, very reasonable commission and extremely well-packed goods, delivered at speed, this first experience with HarperField has been outstanding.

Zero customer service

Sent a registration to bid and just put in a pending folder as I had not paid for one auction (that on inspection had damage not disclosed in the auction) I have paid for 11 auctions since. No communication - and only replied after I indicated I would leave a review. Not botheres and not acting in the interest of the buyer or seller = AVOID

I have been in business as a gunsmith…

I have been in business as a gunsmith and registered firearms dealer for 40 years,I am also a member of the Gun Trade Association. In that time I have attended auctions from Scotland to the South of England and can truthfully say I have never found any problems with Stroud Auctions/now Harper Field. The staff are always a pleasure to deal with being pleasant, polite and extremely helpful especially with loading bulky purchases.May I suggest the the unpleasant and sarcastic reviews alleging everything from rudeness to racism are sent in by people with their own mental health issues.Signed David Paine.

Woeful and insulting

Appalling experience. Ignored instructions sent with my shotgun licence and have since sent it back to the wrong address. The gun I bought a month ago still isn’t with me, and I’m told they can’t help find the licence as it’s not a priority. Would recommend using any other than Stuart Maule.

A rather appalling service

A rather appalling service, unhelpful on the phone, telling you to send an email for additional information on auction items because they don't know themselves and you never get a response to your emails anyway. How pathetic is that, not sure how this auction business is actual selling things, a total waste of time really....

Incompetent auction

I totally agree with Potty Pilots review, they have changed their name from Stroud auction to Harper Field auction, but the customer service for both buyers and sellers is still the same... atrocious. The woman here who I corresponded with had a terrible attitude, a clear case of occupational misplacement.
