Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 138 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers consistently found the customer service exceptionally poor, citing unhelpful representatives who lacked knowledge or authority to resolve issues. Significant problems with website access, user experience, and payment processing were common, including corrupted login processes, passkey difficulties, and frequently being locked out of accounts, leading to declined cards, unavailable funds, and lengthy delays in transfers or disbursements. Customers also faced issues after previous provider acquisitions, persistent demands for paperwork, and concerns about fraud or unauthorized charges on their accounts.

Mandated passkey

Mandated passkey on my phone to access my account. Every time I try to access my account I have to set up a passkey again which fails. Once in a blue moon deleting the app and reinstalling will allow me to get into my account but very rare. Have called support to try to correct with no success. I have a fair amount of money in this account that I am not able to manage investing. And I hate that my phone now has a passcode required only by this app that doesn't work for this app!

Horrible HSA customer service

Had an unauthorized charge on my HSA card. Only option to remove the charge was to cancel the card. A replacement would be sent in 7-10 business days. So I asked them to expedite it and they refused, said that wasn't an option. I asked them "So I'm supposed to go 2 weeks without getting and prescriptions or going to any doctors?" The answer was 'That's correct, or you can charge it to your personal card and file for reimbursement.' Read what others have said about that, short answer is "good luck."

This company is headed for a…

This company is headed for a death-spiral. They have been nothing but a PITA since they acquire our previous provider, Hello Further. The transition was a PITA, and now they've eliminated their web interface and force use of their mobile app only, which is a POS. I called their CS and they said there is nothing they can do, we are stuck with only using the app. We are shopping around for another HSA provider.

Frustrating and Unexplained Claim Denials

I have a FSA with HSA. Claim submissions end up with denial after denial…..fix one thing and they find another reason to deny. And here is a tyoical denial reason. “Insufficient supporting rationale “………what does thst mean? Tell me WHY it was denied. They may as well write the reason as “because, thats why”. This is my LAST FSA if these idiots are going to be in charge of NOT giving me back MY MONEY!

I can't believe they're still haven't fixed their passkey disaster.

I can't believe they're still haven't fixed their passkey, which is a total disaster. I have 11 other institutions joined correctly through my budget tool at my credit union, but not health equity. Quite often I can't even get into their site directly & it's been months now. It just spins & spins. The other great disappointment with Health Equity was when they made you keep 2,000 out of your investment accout. Most of the bills I pay are no where near 2,000. This grossly hinders making interest etc.

This company is horrendous

This company is horrendous. Their mobile app and website are difficult to navigate and horribly slow to update itemized documentation. They request receipts for legitimate medical expenses on just about every transaction. If you value you sanity, DO NOT LET YOUR HR DEPARTMENT USE THIS COMPANY!!

It is borderline criminal

It is borderline criminal how they drain your account dry at nearly $4 per month. Then make it so hard and ridiculously long for you to get the money transferred or card issued that it drains further. You wait on crazy long hold times to get a rep who tells you all kinds of crazy things you have to do to get the issue resolved. Meanwhile continuing to drain the account down. They say to protect against fraud but it is actually to protect their fraud. Employers shame on you tying your unknowing employees up with this disgusting operation. Health Equity is right, they make equity of your Health. Don't use the money they get to make more draining it.

If there were a zero-stars option

If there were a zero-stars option, then that is what I would select. I worked for a company (briefly) that used Health Equity as their HSA servicer. This is, by far, the absolute worst HSA provider on planet earth.
When I left the company and attempted to log in to transfer my funds to a different HSA, I was unable to log in. I kept getting a message that I did not exist in the system. Okay....
I thought that perhaps there was some sort of system glitch, and opted to give it a few days and try again.
Well....when I did try again, I saw a notice that said I was REQUIRED to sign in with a passkey. I spent an hour trying to create a passkey, with no success. I called the customer service number and the person who responded walked me through the process, which required me to make system changes on my phone. I asked her if this was going to cause issues with my phone, if my phone was going to be locked now because of these changes. She said, "Oh no, it will be fine."
It WASN'T fine. Half an hour later, I now have a passkey and can access my account via the stupid phone app; unfortunately, I cannot do what I want to do on the phone app. She then begins to instruct me on how to re-configure my desktop--at which point I came to a "hard stop" and told her in no uncertain terms that I was not messing with my desktop configuration.
So...she then said that she would send me out a form to complete so that I could get my funds transferred.
An hour and a half later, all I have for my efforts is a promise to send a form, and (you guessed it) system changes to my phone, which required ANOTHER HALF HOUR for me to undo.
I finally get the form, fill it out and send it back. A week goes by. Nothing has happened. I call them up to ask them what is going on, and they tell me that, because I crossed off one option, and selected another, that they could not use that form. I asked them why they did not call me or email me.
They said they emailed me, and I told them I did not receive ANY email from them. I asked them what email they used and all they would say is that they had to use the email "associated with the account", which was my former facility-based email that I no longer had access to.
So now I have to fill out the form AGAIN, go to the library to fax it (I don't have a printer/fax), and wait some more.
This nonsense all started back in September, and as of 11-30-25, I STILL do not have my funds. I have made multiple phone calls, I get different responses from different people, I have medical issues that need attention, for which I need these funds, and this delay has impacted my ability to receive these services.
During my last phone call, I got this "song and dance" about how it takes five days to process the form, the account has to be "closed and on hold" for another five days, then it takes ten business days to do blah-blah-blah...

This is the worst HSA company in the entire universe.
STAY AWAY FROM THEM. Even if it means you do not have an HSA, STAY AWAY FROM THEM.

Horrendous service

Horrendous service. Incompetent and completely unhelpful employees. They must hire the worst performers only. All of the ones I spoke with to try to get some help were completely useless and provided absolutely zero help. I wonder why we even bother contracting with this terrible company. They myst be incredibly cheap and the service is in accordance I suspect. Zero stars if that was an option. Watch out for this one!

Paid pre-taxed money in for a transit…

Paid pre-taxed money in for a transit pass that was never delivered. Health equity refused to offer a credit for the next month, nor refund of my pretaxed dollars so essentially they stole $110 from my paycheck without any confirmation if delivery. Customer service also is not helpful in the slightest, not sure why they have a customer service team to just answer people “no” on every request.

Took three months to close account. Request never sent to closure department

I submitted a claim to close my account in August and was told I should receive a check about a week later. In October, I still hadn't received a check. The customer rep said she saw the request, but it was never sent to their closure department. It took almost three months to close my account since customer service did not do their job correctly.

Passcode is a disaster!

I downloaded the Health Equity app on my phone and discovered that setting up the passkey becomes my access to open my phone for everything!! I uninstalled the Health Equity app and the passcode is still there!! The app does not work and customer service cannot determine why. I asked for paper statements without a fee and they said not possible. I am moving my HSA.

Highway Robbery

My HSA account at Health Equity was the target of fraudulent charges ($836). Those fraudulent charges were not reported to me by Health Equity. The activity was detected after a fourth and fifth attempt to use the card data and my account was locked. This was not reported to me. Nearly a year later I tried to use my card at an MD and it was denied. After waiting for a code sent by snail mail, I finally regained access to my account. I filed a claim for reimbursement for those charges but it was denied because it was past 60 days. This is outrageous. My money in their stewardship was STOLEN and they shirk accountability. I'll cheer when this company drops dead.

I have had the worst customer experience with health equity. They mailed my check to the wrong address and they will not reissue it and making me call again after 10 business days. They basically state their hands are tied and gave me a mailing address to file a complaint.

HealthEquity purchased my account from…

HealthEquity purchased my account from another company. When they transferred my account they pulled all my investments and put them into an HSA. After reviewing this i called to see if i could get some support reinvesting my funds. NO LUCK! No investment managers on staff. So i went on line and figured it out myself. I moved my money into the funds that I thought would fit me the best. A couple weeks later fund got moved from my investment account to my HSA without my permission. I called customer support 2 times and they could not figure it out. They second time i talked to them i got disconnected from them somehow and could not call back.

Health Equity has no support when…

Health Equity has no support when overseas. I can't login when outside the US. I rarely have success using the app when using a VPN to spoof that I am in the US. They try to be helpful but will try to sove any proble other than the one that is important which is access from overseas. The operator keeps asking for an address NEVER making clear they want where I live or my mailing address in the US. I once was able to get an updated card but it didn't work outside the US so that was wasted time. Health Equity is useless if you retire over seas.
