July 8th tried to order a manual from secondmanuals for £1.49 their system said payment was declined. Tried a second time in case I had input information incorrectly, same result. Cancelled the account.
Fast forward to July 20th checked bank account, only to find that 2 payments of £1.49 and 2 payments of £24.90 have been taken from my account. Contacted secondmanual, who now say they cannot trace the transactions. Very strange as the wayn I understand it there is no way they could request these payments without my card details. They now keep asking for the first and last four digits of my debit card along with a screen print of the account pages showing the transactions and my full name as on the debit card. I fully believe that this company is a scam outfit and NOT a genuine business.
This company are scammers
This company are scammers, avoid at all costs.
Upon checking my credit card statement I noticed a debit for £1.49 and three days later a further debit of £24.90. I have never heard of this company and certainly have no recollection of setting up a monthly account.
The most worrying thing is how they managed to obtain my credit card number. Frightening!!!
I needed to access an OS map that I did…
I needed to access an OS map that I did not have and could not buy. I googled this sits and all I got was an email with how to use an iPhone manual. I contacted the company but with no luck to cancel my subscription. 3 months later and almost £75 loss I have managed to cancel my membership. Do not ever use this site!!
Absolutely shocking behaviour !!!!
Absolutely shocking behaviour by this company. I ordered a manual from them for my printer at £1.49 which was valid for 48 hrs so I ordered it and they sent me an email several hours later saying they needed more information about my printer, saying they needed the make, model etc. I had already given them this when I ordered the downloadable manual, which I felt was a bit strange why they asked for the details again?
I immediately messaged them back repeating what I had already done and then heard nothing until 2 days later (funnily enough which is now the end of the £1.49 offer period), when they sent me the download for the manual.
So because it was after 48 hrs when I received the download they then resorted to their normal fee of £24.90 for their manuals!!
So as the payment is still pending I'm going to contact my bank and hopefully block it from leaving my account. WHAT A RIP OFF !!!
It's called fraud by any name
Do not fall for this as once you've paid they will continue to take your money every month unless you cancel your subscription so cancel straight away.
Truly Appalling Service
I searched for an online manual via my phone and paid £1.49 for a manual which I was told would be emailed to me. When I received the email, there was no manual, but a further link which returned an error message.
A call to the customer service number was answered but instantly aborted.
I decided to write off this encounter as a scam, only to find that I had been charged a further £24.90 with no further warning or permission.
I now see that the 'trial' is buried in the company's website, which has a different url to the name in the email, but I was not alerted to this at any time by the company concerned.
I have requested a refund, and if I receive one I will update this review to say so.
You have been warned - read the reviews
Like many others (see the reviews onTrustPilot), I bought a manual for £1.49 (under their 3-day trial period) which in the end was of no use and was then unknowingly charged over £24 a month thereafter until I noticed the charge on account. They hide behind purposely very small print.
Rip-off
Rip-off! Crooks! They take £1.49 but you are then tricked into a monthly £24.90 subscription! They sent the wrong manual, then the correct one along with a smarmy email, lulling one into a false sense of normality.
The contact link does not work - you get a 404 warning.
I have requested a refund. I will amend this review appropriately if I get it. And pigs might fly.
manual cost 1.49 subscription 24.90…
manual cost 1.49 subscription 24.90 per month - scandalous
Avoid.
Just reinforcing the other comments here. Underhand and deceitful company with little regard for the customer. Think you're getting a manual for around £1.50 but way down in the details is a lock-in to a subscription. Not illegal, but duplicitous behaviour. Avoid!
This is a total SCAM
This is a total SCAM, do NOT use this website. I paid a one off fee of £1.49 for a single download of a manual that was not even the one I needed then they have taken £24.90 for 3 months before I even realised it. I was never told I was signing up to a subscription!!
AVOID AVOID AVOID
Well, this shabby unprofessional business may not be doing anything illegal but their nasty sharp practices show an appalling attitude and utter contempt to consumers.
I bought a TV operating manual from them for £1.49 – a reasonable sum for a onetime online download.
Just two days later they slammed another £24.90 charge onto my credit card, it says somewhere on their website you have to decline this MONTHLY subscription within 48 hours of original purchase or you will be charged £24.90 ‘subscription fee’ ongoing EVERY MONTH !!!!
For a onetime purchase of a download manual this is nothing short of scandalous.
A complaint email to them just had a reply basically saying Ha Ha got you.
Now most reputable businesses if they want to allure you into some ongoing monthly fee give you 30 days to change your mind and cancel the ongoing fees, not try to catch you out in just 48 hours.
Be vey aware if you were to ever consider trading with these shabby conmen.
I would never deal with them again.
Absolute rubbish
Absolute rubbish - the manual I paid for was incomplete and they continued to debit my account without further notification. No response from customer services.

Went onto site a d paid what i thought was a one off payment ended up with them taking out a unexpected monthly subscription two days later sent them a email stating i hadnt signed up to this and wanted my money back got no reply a scam site dispicable
Helpandmanuals.com
I don't recall ever purchasing from this company but I do from time to time down-load a manual. I found a £24.90 payment being taken from my credit card every month for 9 months and I would never knowingly sign up to such a "service". Just beware of this scam.
Be aware of the trial offer, read the small print first.
I should have read these reviews first. Of course, I should have read the small print - where is it? Trial offer for one manual - in French replaced after a phone call by one in English - at £1.49, a reasonable price, I thought BUT followed by a subscription payment of £24.90. Now cancelled but no refund offered.
It is a pity that search engines do not carry a health warning! Salutary warning to all and me!
This company is A RIP OFF!!!
This company is A RIP OFF!!!! please do not use. I was given a microwave by my neighbour. As it had many functions, I went online to find a manual I could download. Helpandmanuals had one for £1.50. I downloaded it read the section I wanted, and set up my microwave. Job done......
Until I saw that they were taking £24.90 out of my account EVERY MONTH!!!! and what for?? Nothing. Scam scam scam.
(It was written somewhere in the tiniest of small print). DO NOT USE!!!!!
Please avoid this company at all costs
Please avoid this company at all costs. We paid our 1 off payment to them for a microwave manual. They deducted our account of £45 for the next 2 months. We asked for a refund as this was an error. They wouldn’t pay out. They are parasites!
Please please please avoid them at all costs.
I bought a manual for £1.49 for a…
I bought a manual for £1.49 for a simple job on a powered chair for my father in law. It turned out to be the wrong manual that they sent, but I did the job. When my credit card bill arrived I saw that there was an extra £24.90 as payment to a subscription service that would be taken every month until I stopped it. This was not obvious with the initial purchase.
BE AWARE.
Be very careful about signing up accidentally to a monthly subscription.
Be careful if you’re thinking of using this company. I purchased a manual online from them some months ago and I’ve just discovered they have been helping themselves to £24.90 per month from my credit card used to fund the initial purchase. I absolutely should have noticed sinner. When I contacted them they explained it was a subscription service although this wasn’t obvious to me at the time. Make sure you read the small print.
If you try and use the contact details in the company’s website you get an error message however I found alternate contact details and did receive a reply and confirmation my subscription would be stopped promptly which was reassuring.
