The perfect family trip

We have stayed a few times now as a family, and it really is such a special place.

We often go away together as a big family group, and it can be surprisingly hard to find somewhere that works for everyone — young children, older children, parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles. These houses somehow manages to suit everyone.

Every property we have stayed in has been fantastic. The houses are beautifully done, full of character and fun little details, but still really comfortable and practical for a family stay. The pools are always a huge highlight and make the whole trip feel memorable

The children have an amazing time, the adults can properly relax, and there is always something for everyone to enjoy.

We genuinely cannot fault our experiences at Hesdin and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable family getaway.

5* always!! We've been 4 times now

Can't fault a thing. The one star review they have been given with is so unfair and untruthful. The most exceptional team. Exceptional homes. Hundreds of amazing reviews. You can see that everyone who works here cares. We've been back multiple times and can't wait to return. Chin up guys.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this.

It really does mean more than you probably realise. Hospitality can be an incredibly vulnerable place to be as a small business — you open your homes, your team and your heart to people, and sometimes the difficult moments can feel very loud.

We are so lucky to have hundreds of wonderful guests who see the care, the effort, the homes, the team and the heart behind Hesdin.

Thank you for your kindness, your loyalty, and for coming back to stay with us more than once. That is the biggest compliment of all.

We will absolutely keep our chins up — and we cannot wait to welcome you back again.

With huge thanks,
Jim, Laurie and the whole Hesdin Crew

RAT inside luxury accommodation

There is a deliberate attempt to hide all reviews to this company!
I have never had to leave a review like this, but I feel I have to share this experience.
I booked Piggertons at Hesdin Estate for my 40th birthday, a one-off celebration with family and friends, costing over £5,000 for the weekend. The property is marketed as luxury accommodation.
On arrival, within seconds of entering the property with my children, we saw a large rat run from the living area into the kitchen. This was extremely distressing, particularly as guests (including a baby sleeping in a travel cot at floor level) were arriving the next day.
Pest control attended later that evening and placed a trap in the kitchen, in full view for the duration of the stay. Whilst the issue was responded to quickly, this does not change the fact that the property was not in an acceptable condition at check-in, and the situation impacted the start of what should have been a special weekend.
Despite raising a formal complaint, Hesdin Estate have refused any form of partial refund. Instead, they offered a discounted future stay – effectively asking me to spend more money with them.
Separately, be aware of additional costs. The property is advertised as sleeping up to 16, however additional beds were quoted at £245 per bed less than a week before arrival, resulting in a significant unexpected extra cost.
Overall, the lack of accountability and customer care following what was a very upsetting situation has been extremely disappointing. For a premium property at this price point, I expected far better.

Also worth noting: although the property is advertised as sleeping up to 16, additional beds were quoted at £245 per bed less than a week before arrival and I was told it would be a small costs, this was a significant unexpected cost.
For a £5,000+ “luxury” experience, I expected a clean, safe property and a company that takes responsibility when things go wrong.
Based on my experience, I would strongly advise others to think carefully before booking.

Thank you for your review.

Given that you have now chosen to open this brand new Trustpilot profile under an incorrect business name in order to further warn others, we do feel it is important to respond clearly and provide the full context.

We strongly reject the suggestion that we are deliberately removing reviews. All your reviews remain visible across all of the platforms on which you have posted them. We have not deleted them. We are responding to them.

We are proud to have received over 300 five-star reviews from guests who have stayed with us and loved their experience. Like any small business, we understand that not every guest will leave happy, and we respect the right to fair and honest feedback. We do not accept is your repeated suggestion that we are hiding criticism or acting dishonestly.

Before your stay began, our team had already spent considerable time supporting your booking and resolving your complaints around additional guests, visitor access and extra beds. Because we genuinely want our guests to be happy, we waived the additional bed charges and also provided complimentary visitor passes as a gesture of goodwill before your stay had even begun totally £590.

When you raised a concern Friday evening, we treated it as a priority. We have an annual pest control contract in place and a close working relationship with our pest control provider. A professional contractor attended within approximately one hour, despite it being very late on a Friday bank holiday.

Following inspection of the bedrooms, bathrooms and the kitchen - including taking off kickboards and behind cupboards, they found no evidence of any active pest activity within the property. They also provided direct contact details should you have had any further concerns during the stay, but no further call-out was requested.

The Team also made it clear that if you did not feel comfortable staying, we would support you leaving. You chose to remain at the property for the full weekend and checked out Monday morning. No further pest control call-out was requested, and the team onsite observed your group enjoying their stay.

A precautionary bait box placed at the property was installed by the contractor as a professional measure following the concern raised. It was positioned discreetly behind the fridge and was not evidence of an active infestation. Follow-up inspections have since found no bait activity and no evidence of an ongoing issue inside the property.

Pigertons, like all homes at The Hesdin Estate, is professionally cleaned, inspected between stays and covered by regular pest control inspections, monitored bait stations and routine checks. We are based in a rural countryside setting, so occasional external wildlife activity can never be made entirely impossible, but we take prevention, cleanliness and guest safety extremely seriously.

We understand that reviews are part of running a hospitality business and we always welcome fair feedback. However, reviews like this are devastating for a small, independent business, particularly where our team responded immediately, professional evidence did not support the presence of an active issue, goodwill had already been extended, and the team went over and above before your stay in very difficult circumstances.

There are real people behind The Hesdin Estate who work incredibly hard every day to create special stays for our guests. We are sorry that, despite the efforts made before and during your stay, you feel this way.

After reviewing the full circumstances - including the immediate response, the professional pest control findings, the follow up checks, the complimentary extras already provided, and the fact that the stay was completed in full - we still do not believe a refund is appropriate.
