Horrible service and ongoing incompetence

Update 1-23-26: After dealing with this issue for months, HeyGen’s public response simply routes me back into the same generic support loop that has already failed.

The problem is a native voice speed/pacing regression using still images (no avatars, no video). This workflow previously worked and no longer does.

Despite providing voice IDs, screenshots, and repeated explanations, support continues to give scripted responses, misclassify this as an avatar/video issue, and request more screenshots instead of acknowledging a regression.

I received yet another message today repeating the same pattern, confirming that there is no real ownership or resolution path. Based on my experience and similar reviews below, support appears unable or unwilling to resolve this type of issue. At this point, patience has not paid off, and I am moving on to a company that can properly support its product.

____________________________________________________________
I’ve been dealing with recurring technical problems on this platform for months, and the experience with customer support has been extremely frustrating. Simple issues that should be easy to diagnose and fix keep happening, yet I’m repeatedly handed off from one support agent to another with the same scripted responses.

It feels like no one actually takes ownership of the problem. Instead of real troubleshooting, I’m given generic instructions I’ve already tried multiple times. There’s no continuity, no escalation, and no clear understanding of what’s actually causing the issue.

What makes this worse is that I’ve been patient and given the company every opportunity to help resolve the problem properly. Despite that, the same issues keep coming back, and support never seems equipped to handle even basic technical failures.

At this point, the service has become unreliable for professional use. I expected much better, especially given how long I’ve stayed with the platform and how much time I’ve invested. Unfortunately, the overall experience has been disappointing and has disrupted my work more than once.

I’ve been monitoring my AI Generative…

I’ve been monitoring my AI Generative Credit Pack usage after each video generation because I’ve noticed ongoing inconsistencies. It's labled as 20 credits per 1 min of video generation, so I’ve tracked how credits are being consumed and have found multiple instances where credits are deducted despite failed generations or when the AI does not follow the specified prompts, like "do not ass avatar" as the motion also consumes credits. In most cases, I’ve simply absorbed the loss, but this has been occurring consistently for the past 2–3 months, so I decided to report it.

Just moments ago, a generation failed and still deducted 20 credits. When I requested a regeneration, an additional 20 credits were charged. I reported the issue and the case was transfered to their finance deptment which doesn't give me a lot of hope. I have another case open for technical failure to generate an avater in 4k and it's been pending since December 5th.

I also noticed that the UI has changed on several occassions. This raises concerns about why updates are being deployed live without considering the immediate impact on customers, and why the UI is changing so frequently. I support progress and improvements, but having to relearn a new interface nearly every week creates unnecessary friction.

I don't even know where to start

I don't even know where to start, so I'll list everything I can remember that went wrong.

1) Terrible clarity on what you are actually paying for. All videos are set to the premium, Avatar IV generation by default, though you only get a limited number of minutes every month. It's very unclear how to switch to the other avatar generation, so people use up their credits after only a couple of videos, even on the paid plans.

2) Terrible voice clones. My voice clone's accent switched from British to Australian with every new video when I selected the "Original" accent. The "Voice Director" option doesn't work unless one has a US accent. Apparently, you can only be excited if you're American.

3) Terrible editing functionality. The preview function shows totally different things from the video when generated. Backgrounds shrink, video trimming doesn't work, and AI avatars lose their backgrounds. The voice preview cuts off a couple of seconds before the end of each scene. Adding in more than one 0.5 second pause crashes the app completely.

4) Bad support. The first time I contacted them was because my credits had been used up (very easy to do when each generated video looks so different from the preview). They took about two hours to answer me, then showed me how to change avatar generations but offered no apology or refund. The last time, I was told there was no video trimming functionality (despite there clearly being one) so I would have to edit my media in Clipchamp first, and that I would just have to live with the videos looking different from the preview. (They are basically unusable.)

TL;DR avoid this company like the plague.

Heygen Avatar quality is unmatched & the Support Team is world-class

I've tested almost every AI video tool on the market, but Heygen’s new Avatar 4 is in a league of its own. The lip-sync and facial micro-expressions are honestly indistinguishable from reality—it’s the "killer feature" I’ve been waiting for to pitch to my enterprise clients.

But what really sets Heygen apart is the Support Team. I’m a power user with a complex workflow (generating long-form podcast segments), and I ran into some friction with technical limits during my project.

Instead of just quoting policy, the support team (shout out to the leadership there) worked with me to understand my deadline. They are incredibly responsive and clearly care about the creators using their platform.

If you are on the fence, the learning curve is worth it because the output quality is simply the best on the market right now. Highly recommended for professionals.

Buggy Paid version used half my credits for just 90 second video.

I tried the free version. I wanted to make a 90 second video. I almost instantly ran out of credits before I could test anything or produce any video (not good). So I upgraded to the paid version. That was $29 a month. I'm very disappointed. This is an unpolished product. Whilst the final output was almost acceptable, it was a huge struggle getting there. This product is buggy. You clearly have not tested this product on real humans. Your interfsace is awful, to the point of being almost unusable. Due to the lousy interface I have probably been using up credits trying to make things work. Now I see I have used 95 credits out of 200 to make just one 90 swecond video. That would give me JUST TWO videos per month. I would expect more than 180 seconds for nearly $30 a month. Not worth it.

Account canceled without consent, no notice of price increase, poor business ethics

I normally don't like to give bad reviews but I don't want anyone to ecperience what I did so this is just to help others so they can make an informed . Hopefully HeyGen will make changes.

I was a long-time HeyGen customer on a legacy Team plan. I contacted support to request a partial adjustment to generative credits only. Instead, my entire plan was canceled by a HeyGen representative without my authorization.

Following this, I was informed that pricing had increased by approximately $60 per month, with no advance notice. While HeyGen claims monthly plans do not guarantee fixed pricing, ethical business practice still requires notifying customers of material price changes, especially for long-standing users. That did not happen.

I was also told that 300 generative credits were added to my account, but they never appeared. I was later informed those credits only apply to paid plans rendering them unusable after my plan was canceled.

Most concerning, a HeyGen representative suggested I use a VPN to try to locate legacy pricing, which raises serious ethical and compliance concerns.

Taken together, this experience reflects a lack of transparency, consent, and ethical handling of customers. I’ve moved on to another service and would caution others to carefully review billing and account practices before committing.

HeyGen: Where "Unlimited" Actually Means "24-Hour Forced Lockouts"

I am writing this to warn any business considering HeyGen’s Creator "Unlimited Plan." It is not unlimited. It is a metered service disguised as an unlimited one, backed by an incompetent support team.

The "Unlimited" Trap & Repeated Blocks: I am paying for the Creator Unlimited Plan to handle a high-volume project. This month alone, I have been blocked twice for simply using the service I paid for.

Instance 1: I generated a large volume of videos in one day and was hit with a "daily limit" error. I was forced to stop work and wait 24 hours for a "recalibration." I was patient and waited.

Instance 2 (Today): I have hit the same hidden limit again. Despite being on an "Unlimited" plan, I am once again blocked and told I must wait another 24 hours. I want to make it very CLEAR that i was only using unlimited features. They blocked me simply because i was generating too many videos.

The "Forced Renewal" Strategy: When I demanded a manual lift of this block, support told me the system would "recalibrate" on my next billing cycle (Jan 17th). This is a massive red flag. It effectively holds my paid-for features hostage to force a subscription renewal just to get the service I already paid for this month.

Predatory Support & Incompetent Upselling: The support experience has been ridiculous. Instead of addressing the block, the agent sent me a pricing template for a $30,000 Enterprise plan. They claimed I was overusing "AvatarIV"—a feature I am not even using. They are diagnosing the wrong problem and then trying to charge me $30k to "fix" it while I am already losing workdays.

Summary of the Failure:

False Advertising: "Unlimited" has secret daily caps that they refuse to publish.

Unprofessional Support: Agents send repetitive templates and attempt predatory upsells during a service crisis.

Loss of Productivity: I have lost 2 days of work due to these forced 24-hour waits and expect full compensation for this lost time.

I have escalated this directly to the CEO, Joshua Xu. Until HeyGen honors its "Unlimited" promise and stops the hidden daily lockouts, I cannot recommend this platform for professional use.

As far as I'm concerned this is a scam

As far as I'm concerned this is a scam! How can you advertise unlimited Avatar AI and tell I need extra credits to continue. I had to go back to pricing plan and there's nothing mentioned about needing credit after making 4 videos. Moreover, each 1min video takes 20 credits. And not allowing you edit your videos - meaning to correct a bad video the AI generates you have to start from the scratch and that's another credit to spend. I am simply going to dispute my payment and request refund!

Hey Richard, sorry to hear about how this experience was for you. It sounds like there was some confusion when creating videos between our unlimited video creation and the specific AvatarIV credit based engine. If you just change the engine of your video to unlimited, you shouldn't be limited by any credits and create unlimited videos! I thought it was me

I thought it was me, so I had a professional make a video and audio file and uploaded it. The avatar came back with inert face and voice and my delivery in English, Spanish and Japanese (WT?). When I tried to improve the inert face I got weird me and a suggestion I could redo it, and use my 'redo' options for the month. They said it wasn't a charge, just a time limit. But of course I had paid, and would need to pay next month (WT?) When I tried to improve the voice there was no sound. They suggested I use incognito on Chrome to fix it. Right. No. Nothing happened.

Feedback on Credit System and Service Performance

First of all, the support team is excellent and always polite, but there are too many issues and the credit management is not transparent.

I purchased an annual plan after trying the service for a few months and ended up with fewer credits than expected because they changed the system: previously, it was possible to generate 20 AI clips per month for unlimited animations separately. Now everything is merged into a single 200-credit package, but creating a one-minute animation with Avatar 4 — the best way to make videos — requires 20 credits, which is too few, especially considering that, as happened to me several times, the animations often have errors.

On three occasions, the animation synced the speech but animated a design on the sweatshirt instead of the avatar, something that never happened before despite having made the same animation multiple times.

Additionally, although the avatar animation is excellent in many cases, it often has unpleasant effects like awkward pauses, resulting in credits being consumed without producing a precise output.

I reported these problems, and in November I was given about 200 extra credits, but I was not informed they would expire in January, and without any notification, I didn’t use them.

Furthermore, today I have been getting network errors all day, which caused me to lose 2 hours on a modification that should have taken 10 minutes. After exporting, the audio had echoes and other unpleasant effects.

It’s a shame, because the service was very promising, but it’s impossible to work like this.
My annual subscription expires in September, and if things don’t improve, I don’t plan to renew it. However, I’m open to revising this review in the future, but as of now, the experience is unsatisfactory.

Be a wise and smart user when choosing products, don't let others exploit the power of your computer, your mind, or your money.

This platform exploits others; it is a parasite that drains the efforts of creators and earns money from them. I recommend you carefully consider before using its features. This platform not only breaches contracts but also illegally exploits my labor.

Heygen, today I came here to post these things. I want to ask why you are not the developer of Motion AI images, AI videos - creating new looks - training human models - upgrading? So why do you sell credits for each use at such a high cost? On this platform, there are no metrics to fairly recognize effort. When you work here, even if you create a new feature, no one will pay you, and no one will acknowledge the time you have contributed. It’s just a scenario of days being exploited; the results of your creativity are things you will never like because if what you create is too novel, they will commercialize it and even modify it. changing policies. Sometimes, you yourself fall under policies that they change, and they have no standards, tools, or recognition systems to assess the contributions of others. They treat users like guinea pigs, and users' money is used to maintain their team, while users' creative minds pave the way for their future breakthroughs.

In the past, they took advantage of my image with nearly 800,000 views on TikTok. They approached me and asked how I did it, then went on to claim that they had tools to help people appear on camera without needing to, saying they were leading others into a new era—so delusional, so ridiculous—or they copied my work but didn’t know how to use it, 😂

Very misleading pricing and functionality. Once u make your own avatar clone you can’t redo it so make sure you do it perfect the first time or else you wasted $30. They need to be more upfront and not nickel and dime you for everything once you are in. Confusing layout. Not worth it. Go elsewhere or just make a video yourself and save the headache. I can’t even get a hold of them for a refund. I purchased it 30 minutes ago for this terrible product.

“Unlimited” is misleading; throttled after 100 short videos unless you pay more

I’m on the Creator plan, which is advertised as unlimited video creation. In practice, that is not true.

After creating a little over 100 short videos, most of them only 15–20 seconds long, HeyGen suddenly throttled my account. Now every new video is pushed to standard processing, which can take several hours up to 36 hours.

This completely breaks my workflow. I use HeyGen for news shorts, where timing matters. Waiting a full day to process a 15-second clip makes the tool unusable for its intended purpose.

If there must be limits, they should be clearly stated and based on total video length or compute usage, not an arbitrary number of videos. Calling this plan “unlimited” while quietly enforcing hidden caps is misleading at best.

To make it worse, the only way to get fast processing again is to pay extra. So “unlimited” really means:

Unlimited until you actually use it

Then throttled unless you upgrade or buy add-ons

This feels like a bait-and-switch. If you rely on fast turnaround or produce short-form content at scale, be aware that the Creator plan will slow you down hard once you hit their internal limits.

HeyGen needs to be transparent about:

What “unlimited” actually means

Where the real limits are

Why short videos are treated the same as long ones

Until then, I can’t recommend this service for creators who need speed and consistency.

AI Dub Service - confusing

AI Dub Service - Honestly, the pricing information is very confusing and misleading. On the HeyGen website, none of the plans clearly state that translation is limited by minutes. There’s no visible info about how many minutes you actually get.
In reality, the $30 subscription includes only 120 minutes of translation, and once you use them, you’re forced to buy additional credits.
I only found this after searching through the help center, where it says:
“All paid plans include 120 minutes of translation.”
This kind of limitation should be clearly mentioned on the pricing page.
Good thing I didn’t buy the subscription yet.
