Highmark insurance is a joke

Highmark insurance is a joke! I was quoted a price for my premium and they ended up charging me a higher rate. They refuse to refund me the difference which I have been dealing with since July 2025. The employees do not know what’s going on and I will never be a Highmark customer again. If I could give a negative star on this review I would

Type 1 Diabetic Can't Get Insulin

I have been a type 1, juvenile onset diabetic since I was seven years old. Within the last year Highmark Blue Shield has started refusing my insulin prescription every time I try to fill it stating they need the dosage information even though the dosage has never changed under my current physician. This has forced me to ration insulin for months, to which Highmark has zero concern. Their customer service seems to exclusively be based outside the US and they have zero information about your plan when you call.

Scumbag vultures like this company are the exact reason the country despises our insurance and Healthcare system. They make arbitrary, capricious decisions with zero medical oversight, relying on bought doctors never held to account for their ghoulish push to process as many claims as possible since they are paid per review and not held medically liable for their decisions. Absolute garbage company, do not recommend, will be copying this review to every possible venue I can find for their company.

Best health insurance company I've ever had

This review is for Highmark Complete Blue PPO Distinct, a Medicare Advantage plan. This is the first health insurance company I've ever had anything good to say about, and they amaze me every year by getting better. My copays have gone down 3 years in a row. I now have coverage for both dental and eye care; something regular Medicare does not cover. My premium went down this year. I have no copay for primary care visits. When I was overbilled by the local medical center, Highmark took care of it and made them retract the bills. There are live customer support people available on the phone for realistic times, and they are unfailingly polite as well as knowledgeable. In three years with Highmark, I have nothing but good things to say about them. Highly recommend!
