The garden center is well stocked with…

The garden center is well stocked with some good plants at reasonable prices. We went to the cafe for coffee. I can honestly say it was quite frankly one the worst coffees (cappuccino) I have ever tasted! Didn't finish it. My sister said the same and didn't finish hers! My advice to the business is to get a new coffee machine or get it repaired or something it was vile!

Poor Customer Service

The entrance of the Garden Centre is inviting, filled with half price ceramic pots, which are great! Although, not what I came for this time.

Looking at the vast amount of different composts they stock, I approached two staff members to ask if they could help me with the compost, and take it to the front desk.
'No' Was the answer 'You have to pay for it at the checkout then come back with the receipt and we will bring it round!'
I was taken aback by his bluntness! Is this how you normally speak to customers?
The other staff member was a lot nicer, and explained that if I pay for the compost first, then take my receipt. They will load it into my car.
I could also ask his advice about which compost to buy, but couldn't do that with the first member of staff.

We tried to go to the cafe, but it was closed again. It seems to happen every time I visit, but after reading the other reviews I'm glad it was closed.

There are some lovely plants for sale that are slightly cheaper than Dobbies, but the guarantee isn't up to the same standard so it's swings and roundabouts.

This could be a lovely garden centre, if the customer service and cafe improved.

Burnt Offerings!!

Ordered 2 cheese toasties from the cafe that arrived absolutely cremated. Absolutely no excuse for that, especially at £7.99 each (toasties we’re turned over on the plate to hide the totally black burnt side too).

Will not be returning!

Purchased a Gazebo over bank holiday…

Purchased a Gazebo over bank holiday weekend that has numerous marks, scratches, a faulty LED strip and Sides that don't stay in when there's a slightest breeze.

Comms are very very slow and my issue is still not resolved with no form of compensation offered as yet for what was a VERY expensive item.

I appreciate the manufacturer is looking at options for the flimsy sides, but no mention yet of the other issues im experiencing and it has been some time since the issue was raised.

I would expect better when spending the amount of money that i did.

Enjoy going to Hill top garden centre

Not tried the cafe but regarding the garden plants & bushes never been dissatisfied with what ever we have purchased and far less expensive than Dobbies, plus staff are extremely helpful & just love the gift shop if we need to buy that something special

Appalling Cafe-Health & Hygiene Issues!!!!!

Appalling cafe-Everything about it totally Appalling!!!!!
3 of us adults joined the queue to order a lunchtime snack & something for our toddler...
1) An issue with the till, so as we approached in the queue line we had to wait for someone to come & sort it which took almost 10 mins
2) Put an order in for 2 pasties out of the cool display cabinet to be quickly microwaved.. (one pastie was lamb & mint & the other a Cornish pastie with potatoe & corned beef)
These were brought to our table with both pasties plonked on one small side plate when they are for 2 seperate people.
Eating into them they were both lamb & mint so imagine if one of us who purchased had an allergy to mint or didn't eat lamb!!!!!
3) In the toddler meal that was also ordered was a little mini pot of yoghurt.
I had to insist on cutlery that was indeed by the til in a tray as none was offered..
There were no little spoons so I asked for a spoon for our 3 teas plus one for the toddlers yoghurt.
The male cashier had bare hands touching money in the til & proceeded to rumble his hands through all the cutlery looking for little spoons. He couldn't find any so offered us 2 x dessert spoons.!!!! Huge spoons to stir the tea & which wouldn't even fit in the toddlers yoghurt pot never mind his mouth & I was totally astonished.
Huge spoons to stir our tea which is ridiculous, but even WORSE is all the filthy germs off his cashier 'money handling' hands he's rubbing all over the open cutlery which is totally disgusting but as the cutlery is all open and unwrapped how many people possibly carrying covid have mauled the cutlery box to pick out what they need????????
An environmental health issue surely!!!!
We were given revolting stewed tea in a pot for 3 but barely any milk to go with it..
4) The pasties by the way, & my sausage roll was microwaved to within an inch of their lives leaving all the pastry not hot & soft but really really hot with rock hard pastry. Virtually inedible!!
So obviously left in the microwave for way too long.
5) The bins in the tiny childrens outside play area was overflowing with a filthy nappy on the floor & litter blowing out from the bin around & about probably because none of the staff had been asked to check & empty & no they weren't short staffed there were plenty of staff but no real obvious management.!!!!
6) Food is very overpriced & if you sit on any of their outside tables don't expect them to bring it to you as the staff make you sit indoors at the indoor seating until your food is over heated & I imagine it's because they're too lazy to bring it too you at the outside seating areas
7) I've given 1 star as couldn't award zero stars as trustpilot doesn't offer zero ratings but Hilltop was a totally soul destroying experience with the onus being on very poor service & environmental health concerns with staff & customers alike mauling all the cutlery who potentially could be transmitting covid or other filthy hygiene issues.!!!
8) Pretty plants & flowers but mostly overpriced
9) Won't waste my time, energy or money in this over rated health hazard place again not to mention a food allergy red flag if they are so slack at not giving customers the right food that was asked for I.E 2 x pasties where one was totally different to the one ordered which could inadvertently lead to a serious allergy issue..
