Very bad experience
Posted after Holost response to my review: My review includes the full ticket history with our messages copied verbatim. I want to draw attention to their claim that “the client behaved inappropriately and rudely” and that they “suspect he is from a competing company.”
Anyone is welcome to read the entire ticket trail and judge for themselves whether their statements are accurate or simply another misrepresentation. I cannot adjust my original rating (lower) at this point, but this update reflects my continued experience with them. Their public reply was posted roughly ten months after my initial review.
Dates of correspondence: 25th–29th September 2025
I signed up with HolHost in late September 2025 for their Gold Reseller package at $59/month. What followed was one of the most frustrating hosting experiences I’ve had in over 20 years of working with hosting providers.
Timeline of Issues & Correspondence
25th Sep 2025
(10:21) I reported being denied access to JetBackup, told I needed “root access.”
(10:44) HolHost replied that I should log in through cPanel accounts, not WHM.
(11:00) I reported this did not resolve the issue.
27th Sep 2025
(09:16) HolHost offered to move me to a new reseller account on another server.
(11:49) I asked for clarification, as I thought I was already on the highest plan.
(12:26) They confirmed they would move me to a “better server.”
(12:48) I gave approval.
(12:54) They set up a new reseller account, told me to move all my sites.
(17:17) They asked if I had moved everything so they could close the old account.
(20:14–22:46) I documented multiple problems: errors with WordPress installs, SSL failing to renew, 403 forbidden errors, DNS conflicts, and server instability.
(20:29) HolHost claimed the issue was “fixed.”
28th Sep 2025
(05:51) HolHost insisted the problem was my DNS, not their server, and told me everything “works perfectly.”
(12:18) I reported that SSL installed, but sites still returned 403 errors. FTP worked, but websites could not load.
(15:20) HolHost again blamed DNS and told me to repoint my domains, with a dismissive “What exactly is unclear and don’t you understand?”
(22:40–22:42) I clarified domains, confirmed SSL was active, but websites still failed.
(23:19) I noted files were dropping into public_html, but sites remained broken.
29th Sep 2025
(04:43) HolHost said the issue was “resolved.”
(12:55) I asked for clarification about my plan, pricing, and future stability. I reminded them that onboarding had already cost me 4–5 days of troubleshooting.
(15:36) I also pointed out their support phone numbers are disconnected, and one number routes to an adult chat line—a serious red flag.
(15:39) HolHost admitted they had changed their plans right after my signup. I was now on “Advanced Reseller” at $69/month (not Gold at $59). They promised “the price will not change.”
(16:38) I pushed back, noting my invoice showed I purchased Gold. What they were doing “is probably not legal.”
(16:49) HolHost responded defensively, saying I was now on “Advanced” and getting “unlimited cPanel accounts.”
(16:51) I requested a refund.
(17:08) HolHost curtly replied: “Reseller packages are non-refundable!”
My Overall Experience
False Advertising & Bait-and-Switch
I signed up for Gold at $59/month, but immediately after purchase, HolHost changed their plans. I was switched to “Advanced” at $69/month with no choice in the matter.
Their website still showed Gold at $89/month, creating confusion and mistrust.
Server Instability
Multiple days of downtime, SSL issues, 403 errors, failed installs, and DNS blame-shifting.
Even when SSL certificates installed, the sites remained inaccessible.
Unprofessional Support
Repeatedly blamed me instead of investigating server issues.
Used dismissive and unprofessional language: “What exactly is unclear and don’t you understand?”
Took days to resolve even basic functionality.
Deceptive Contact Information
Their website advertises phone support, but one number is disconnected, and the other connects to an adult chat line—totally unacceptable for a hosting provider.
No Refund Policy
After bait-and-switch pricing, broken servers, wasted days of work, and misleading advertising, they flatly refused a refund.
Conclusion
HolHost wasted days of my time, misled me on pricing, and delivered an unstable hosting environment. Their support was dismissive, their contact numbers misleading, and they refused any accountability or refund.
I strongly recommend avoiding HolHost. There are far more reputable and professional reseller hosting providers who will value your business and provide clear, honest communication.
