Unexpected lapsed membership after owner transfer

I was told that a membership for our new dog would be transferred to us at no cost. When I went in to update the account, I was stunned to see that the paid membership had lapsed a week ago, presumably when the breeder transferred ownership. I tried twice to reach them by phone and Verizon said it was not possible to be connected to their 888-466-3242 number. So I tried their customer service online messaging and explained my inquiry. The response bore no relationship to the problem I presented; it merely told me how to log in, which was not an or the issue. I see I am not alone in this complaint but glad I Googled reviews, both to learn that but also to learn that it's not necessary to be a paying member for your pet to remain in the database.

In perusing their website, I can't help but wonder what sort of staff they have hired. Just look at the stories of Found Pets; half of the images have been uploaded sideways! Are the stories even real?

I have had an incredibly disappointing…

I have had an incredibly disappointing experience with HomeGain Pet Recovery. I attempted to pay for their service online, but their system kept crashing and refused to accept my credit cards. I contacted their customer support multiple times via email and received absolutely no response.

In November, I mailed a check for $24.99, and to this day, it still has not been cashed. I am now left without any way to resolve this issue, as their communication channels seem entirely non-functional.

This situation has been a complete nightmare to deal with. For a company that claims to care about pet recovery, they seem to lack basic operational efficiency and customer support. I am now looking for another provider that values their customers and offers reliable service.

Avoid this company unless you want to deal with endless frustration and no resolution to your issues.

Very bad so called service

Very iffy company. Found id tag on floor so wanted to verify it was my dogs. To my surprise account indicated my membership was not paid. Payment was due in November and it's now February. Tried to email co. They sent me back info about logging in. Sent second email. Also sent email about logging in. So called on 2-3. After lengthy conversation I was told this was taken care of. 2 or 3 days later someone else calls and asks me to find the check stub of payment I used. WHy? Was told this was taken care of. Now it isn't. So is it or isn't it. I think these employees are not properly trained. Also my dog's name is Hugh. As in Hugh Hefner or Hugh grant. The guy calling said he was calling about my dog Hug. Really!!!

Swindled by HomeAgain!

In July 2024, I moved and contacted them to change my address. A few months later in November 2024 I was sent an email saying Welcome Back and informing me that my premium membership has expired. For only $24.99, I can reactivate my pet's annual membership. I paid, of course. Unbeknownst to me, I didn't have to pay that premium to keep my pet's name in the database.

It's January 2025 and I just came across the class action suit against them. The case made me realized that I had been swindled! To say I was NOT happy is an understatement. Unfortunately, I realized I couldn't make a claim because it states the Defendant paid for a HomeAgain premium service membership between May 19, 2018, and September 12, 2024; and my payment was made in November 2024.

Companies with these marketing tricks need to be STOPPED! I'm disgusted with HomeAgain!

Poor Customer Service

Our vet accidentally assigned our new dog to the wrong email account. When we called to fix, the service rep was not very helpful. They gave a lot attitude and I needed to be persistent for them to fix a minor human error. When we asked to consolidate, it took them almost a week to take action and then they ended of deleting all dogs from our account! We had three dogs on account, we were supposed to have four. Now we have zero dogs on our account. Very poor and disappointing customer service. Terrible and incompetent service.

Update:
This review seemed to caused prompt action. They emailed me and my account was fixed with 14 hours of review. They posted their response to this review shortly after I received the updated email. They did try to gaslight me and say was not logged into the correct account. I only have one account and login. Originally, I had also I them a screenshot of my account showing my account with no dogs as proof. I appreciate this review created a quick response but I so question the authenticity.

Lied to by EVERYONE at this company

I found a dog and every vet that scans the microchip says the owners info is not available because they didn’t pay for their subscription. Home again settled a 3.5 million dollar class action law suit this year for deceptive marketing and FRAUD.
Two different supervisors told me the company never has committed fraud when I asked them about this exact situation. Both of the “supervisors” hung up on me after.
I’ve been told they left 3 voicemails over 2 days for the dog owner and last time I called they said that the owners number doesn’t accept voicemails. So who’s lying…
Next I was told they cannot give the owner my info over the phone but only through an email…
No one seems to have any idea what the actual process is of contacting the dog owner.
Every single person at this company will tell you something different or just make something up… if they don’t hang up on you first.

HomeAgain has redefined what it means…

HomeAgain has redefined what it means to have abysmal customer service. My experience with them was a soul-crushing exercise in frustration, incompetence, and outright disrespect for their paying customers. If you care about your sanity—or your pet’s safety—avoid this disaster of a company at all costs.

I had my rescue dog microchipped through my vet, listing myself as the primary owner and my partner as the secondary contact. Somehow, HomeAgain managed to botch this simple task by making my partner the primary owner. When I called to fix their mistake, I was met with hours upon hours of phone calls over several days, trying to explain that I am the sole and rightful owner of my dog. Did they listen? Of course not. Instead, they repeatedly contacted my partner, the secondary contact, while leaving me stuck in their unending loop of nonsense.

Then came the real kicker: HomeAgain refused to simply correct their error. Instead, they insisted I go through an absurd transfer of ownership process—to myself. Yes, you read that right. I was forced to “transfer” ownership of my own dog back to me, as though I were some random third party. This nonsensical process resulted in the cancellation of my paid premium subscription, leaving me with no access to the service I’d already paid for. When I demanded that they reinstate it, they smugly informed me that the subscription was “non-transferable.” Non-transferable? I wasn’t transferring anything! This was their mistake, yet I was the one paying the price.

But it gets even worse. In their infinite wisdom, HomeAgain decided to create a second account during the ownership transfer, effectively “losing” my dog in their system. I had no idea this second account even existed until they pointed me to a page I couldn’t access because I had no password for it. As for my previously active premium subscription, it is gone. HomeAgain has done nothing to resolve this catastrophe.

The sheer incompetence of this company is mind-blowing. I spent hours on the phone for days, speaking to unhelpful representatives who either didn’t understand the problem or didn’t care enough to fix it. Their lack of accountability and total disregard for customer service is infuriating.

The thought of how many pet owners rely on HomeAgain without realizing how useless they are terrifies me. If this is how they handle a simple registration issue, how on earth could they be trusted in an emergency? Spoiler: they can’t.

HomeAgain is the worst company I have ever dealt with, and their service is a scam wrapped in a nightmare. If you’re considering using them, don’t. Spare yourself the anger, the wasted time, and the overwhelming sense of betrayal. Your pet deserves better. You deserve better. HomeAgain deserves nothing but to be avoided at all costs.

My pet went missing

My pet went missing. I opened a claim. They took the information and sent out the necessary information. I unfortunately found her a couple days later deceased. I replied to the email where I had sent photos and let them know. I never got an I'm sorry or anything from this company. I tried to use the time left from her on my other two pets and they wouldn't transfer it to them. When I did call, I got a very non compassionate I'm sorry. I am very disappointed with this company.

I would give this company 0 stars

I would give this company 0 stars. Customer service is terrible. If you get them on the phone, it’s fine. They said they fix it. Give it a couple days but then it’s not fixed and you have to get them back on the phone and then it repeats as is. Every time a dog‘s renewal comes up after they ask if you want to be on a renewal and go threw the speech it always says the card was declined. When they don’t even try update your credit card it said. You updated it and it still doesn’t work. Then you try to pay it online and an error comes up and still says you must call customer service. and God forbid if you have more than one dog.
So once again, you’re trying to get a hold of somebody and it won’t be fixed for like 30 days because you can’t get a hold of nobody you have to email. seems back-and-forth and shouldn’t be this hard to pay for renewals. I am so sorry. I chipped my dogs with this company. I have 8 dogs and all year I
Want to pull my hair out. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Scam alert

Scam alert. Would give negative stars if I could. This service must be a scam. Phone bot answers but won't take input and just hangs up. I even pushed the button to report a lost pet, but it didn't take it. Created a login for website but it couldn't find the chip number. Website message never sends, it just says "processing" and never goes through. So you can't use the chip to report a lost pet or find the owners of a found one. Quick web search shows tons of negative stuff and a lawsuit against Merck. I would guess the original owners of this cat paid some money. I just got her from a rescue and gave the old gal a home but didn't pay anything. I suggest people that used this service to chip your animals somewhere else.

SCAM company...more to come.

Will have to write the actual review after I have been able to recompse myself. I am level 10 with anger for this HORRIBLE company.
The best word to describe HomeAgain is: S C A M ! ! !
My next step is to contact as many veterinarian clinics as possible. Also, will be contacting as many of my pet-owner friends as possible.
I will return at some point to complete the description of today's scam experience.

If I could give zero stars I would

If I could give zero stars I would.

There are lots of chip monitoring companies out there. Pick a different one than Home Again. Their customer service is nonexistent. I don't know anything about the other companies, but don't use Home Again.

Edit - see response from Home Again below claiming they "strive to provide a high level of customer service". I promptly provided the contact information they requested, sent their CS a follow up email, and have still received no response from them, at all. Avoid this company like the plague. Their CS is worse than terrible, it's horrific. You've been warned, do not give these people your money or CC info. Zero stars should be an option. Negative stars is really what they've earned and deserved. My next review with be with the Better Business Bureau.

Be careful, you may end up with a useless chip implanted into your pet

Home Again uses thrid party tech support AND contract vets with little to no solid guidance to vets and customers and the communication needed to properly set this chip up. Often times, the vet will register the product and not tell the customer, or give any of the information to said customer. Imagine buying something and having almost no avenue to use said product due to poor communication and guidance. Tech support can not help, as they are contracted and don't have access to the logins. This company COULD be good, but the poor communication and guidance makes this company just light of a scam
