Frequent visitors who love going.

We live in Kent and frequently go for day trips to Whitstable. We always have lunch at either the Hotel Continental of the Oyster Shack, both owned by the same company. We always find the staff to be professional, friendly and helpful. We love their fresh cod chips and have it every time. It is always very good, particularly at the Hotel Continental, where the chips are better. We always have our Siberian Husky Maximus with us and the staff are always welcoming towards him. We visit one or other of these eateries every couple of weeks and think they, their staff and their food are great!

The worst bar staff I’ve ever…experienced

The worst bar staff I’ve ever encountered.. ordered a round of drinks and asked for a dog bowl for our gentle retriever.. it was like we asked for the worst thing ever.. humpy slumpy moody unhappy people !.. apparently all of a sudden we can’t give our dog water in the interior of the hotel.. we have to take him outside?.. and the bar is empty pretty much!! Omg?? You sell this as a dog friendly space?..dreadful .

Very unwelcoming

Very unwelcoming, rude and terse receptionist, you would think she would at least learn the basic etiquette of speaking to customers if she's going to take a customer service position, Horrendous.

Very friendly comfortable hotel

Very friendly staff. Spotless, comfortable room with balcony and wonderful sea view. The sunsets were beautiful. The rooms are a little pricey but the service is excellent and parking is complimentary. Breakfast was plentiful, varied and beautifully cooked. The hotel is well placed for all local amenities, buses and trains and the area is mostly flat for ease of walking. There are stairs, up one floor but no lift. Staff are happy to help carrying bags upstairs. I would definitely recommend this very popular hotel and hope to visit again.

Booked for 2 nights

Booked for 2 nights - could only stand to be there for one. Most indifferent and unwelcoming staff, Scruffy Bar area served us up stale Baguettes.
We had wanted to book a twin room but they only had a family room available. So fine - and should be ok for 2 people. It was very cramped and there was no way there should have been a double and a single bed and it sold as a family room Totally misrepresented.
Could go on but our couple of days away, first for 2 years was ruined by the Hotel Continental experience.

Avoid if you want a relaxing stay.

We booked two nights in early February to celebrate my partners birthday and enjoy a little, very scarcely available, downtime for the pair of us. We chose to stay in their Warehouse accommodation as they stated that it provided its own electric vehicle charging unit. As we had stayed in one of their Fisherman’s Huts previously, which we thoroughly enjoyed but now needed to be able to guarantee charging our electric vehicle, we were very happy to be offered the chance to stay in one of their more modern accommodations. The place itself was clean and decorated to a reasonable standard. Sadly, the facilities were lacking, only a kettle and small fridge in each of the two bedrooms with nowhere to sit at a table, and the electric vehicle charging unit didn’t work correctly. This wasn’t addressed during our stay and there has been no answer from the hotel, other than acknowledging receipt of our emails, to my complaint and how they intend dealing with this. It’s been over a month! I have given a full and frank account of how our stay was effected in my complaint email, giving possible things they could look at to help resolve the issue so as not to impact on other peoples breaks and given plenty of time/opportunity for them to respond but they have chosen to ignore me and the situation, so I’m afraid my decision to write a negative review was made for me. I would not recommend using this accommodation if you drive an electric vehicle and expect to have the freedom of waking to a fully charged battery. Nor would I be comfortable recommending staying in any of their other available types of accommodation as there appears to be no redress when things go wrong. Avoid if you want a relaxing stay.

Lovely hotel well appointed great…

Lovely hotel well appointed great location. I love Whitstable. We had some issues with our stay, and the management we dealt with well was just unbelievable. The owners invest a lot of money in the “bricks and mortar” and that is completely negated by the person who we dealt with. We spent a lot of money that weekend and to be treated and spoken to that way was not right.

Rude bar staff

Rude bar staff. Not only rude but deceitful in their response. We ordered food. It came after 45 minutes NOT 10 min as their 'manager' (who incidentally wasn't even present) insists. The sandwich was dry and obviously left out before serving. It was returned half eaten NOT completely eaten. We asked for another or a refund which was refused.
The mocking and insulting behaviour was NOT from another customer but from the arrogant bar staff ( who apparently is normally marvellous). Not this time though. The behaviour of staff and their subsequent response has been staggeringly shocking.
