Just another useless charity operating by sign-posting and offering nothing meaningful

UPDATE: After ghosting me, 6 weeks later the Housing Options Scotland broker had the audacity to use the signed mandate I'd given her to contact the Council to check my application status (which had progressed entirely through my own efforts), and then email me that info. She contributed nothing meaningful to my case yet still acted behind my back using my consent after abandoning direct communication.

After completing their online form, I was contacted by a housing broker via email. We scheduled a phone call during which she offered to liaise with Edinburgh Council on my behalf. She requested a signed mandate and additional information, which I promptly provided. However, rather than taking any meaningful action, I received an email instructing me to contact the council myself.
Before reaching out to this charity, I had already tried unsuccessfully to engage with the Edinburgh Council Housing team directly; I was hopeful that Housing Options Scotland could provide meaningful advocacy and practical support to navigate the complex council processes. Instead, the housing broker I spoke with only redirected me back to the very same council.
When I followed up with specific questions about next steps, my email went unanswered - I got ghosted.
Additionally, their online form includes archaic and tone-deaf questions, such as whether family or friends could financially assist me in buying or renting a home, assuming such support is readily available. This reveals an organisation stuck in the past, likely run by Baby Boomers or older generations, utterly out of touch with the harsh realities faced by younger and disabled people today. It highlights a troubling disconnect from the systemic barriers, financial precarity, and housing crisis that most people endure. These outdated assumptions seriously undermine the charity’s credibility and relevance.
Based on my experience, I would caution others to manage their expectations when seeking help from Housing Options Scotland, especially if you need proactive advocacy and/or if your case is complex.
