My experience in supporting Pastor Howell Shaw
I am writing this review based on my personal experience with Dr. Howell Shaw, whom I came to know through Dwell AJC (A Jesus Community), the church he leads in Henderson, Nevada.
When I first became involved in November 2025, I genuinely wanted to find a welcoming Christian community centered on God, biblical teaching, spiritual growth, and fellowship. I also made a sincere effort to support Dr. Shaw and his work.
My support went beyond simply attending church. I voted for him, helped distribute his election brochures on several occasions, contributed substantial tithes to his home church, and gave financially at an event where, to my knowledge, no one else contributed. I did these things willingly and in good faith because I believed in supporting his efforts and the community.
Over time, however, I became concerned about the blending of church fellowship with political activism. I believe the church should remain focused on God, biblical teaching, and spiritual growth. While people are entitled to their own political views and involvement, I believe political priorities can sometimes create division when they become intertwined with the spiritual purpose of a church. I later learned that other people had also experienced conflicting feelings about the relationship between politics and church and had chosen to leave.
My personal disappointment also involved communication with Pastor Shaw. I contacted him with a straightforward question about whether he had someone's contact information because my own email to that person had gone unanswered. I was not asking him to mediate or become a go-between. I simply wanted to know whether he had the contact information. This is not first time miscommunication.
His response was that he did not feel comfortable being a go-between and that I should not involve him. I tried to clarify what I had actually asked, but I felt misunderstood and dismissed, even as a military veteran.
In a later response, he expressed hope that I would find a pastor who had more time for me. That left me feeling unwelcome and disappointed, particularly after the time, effort, financial contributions, and political support I had given.
Had I known when I voted for him that this would be how my concerns and attempts to communicate would be handled, I would have reconsidered my decision to support him.
I eventually decided to step away from Dwell AJC. I had hoped for a Christian community where God remained at the center and where communication, mutual respect, spiritual growth, and genuine fellowship were priorities.
I am sharing this account so others can understand my experience. I recognize that others may have different experiences, but I believe people deserve to make informed decisions based on more than a public image or campaign presentation.
