Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers expressed significant dissatisfaction with the product, often describing it as unreliable and difficult to use. People frequently encountered issues with the app and website, finding them unresponsive and poorly designed, which made basic functions like printing or managing accounts frustrating. The subscription service also drew strong criticism, with many feeling it was unsatisfactory and made it impossible to use their printers effectively. Reviewers consistently reported problems with the printer's functionality, including connectivity issues, failure to recognize cartridges, and an inability to print despite being online and having ink. The process of setting up and troubleshooting was often described as lengthy and unhelpful, leading to a general sentiment of regret over purchasing HP products.

My printing was suspended for less than a dollar (61 cents)

My printing was suspended for 61 cents. Yes. Then, I spoke with a so-called Miriam who was identified in the chat as "HP co-pilot". Nowhere in billing was any such charge detailed, accounted for, or explained.

Nor did it show how much they had billed me monthly.

She said it was taxes, and I explained that taxes did not add to that amount. So, it was on to a supervisor who started yammering on some nonsense regarding a "split payment."

Had I not paid the 61 cents I would have still been billed for the cycle for which I was inexplicably suspended, so, I went ahead an paid it.

They couldn't have just tacked in onto my next bill (with an explanation?) Or even credited it (it's sixty one cents!)

Having recently read an article that by comparison, a litre of HP ink amounts to over $10,000...(yes!), I think I'm switching to Canon - for less than $200.00 you can print a heck of lot more for 8.95 without being hijacked over sixty one cents...lol

Update:

I was able to navigate through the complicated account in billing page, but shows where the split payment came from or something, which I didn't bother looking into because I didn't want to bothering when I understand it because it was so stupid.

Either way, dang they suspended my account over 61 effing cents, causing me to go through this convoluted customer service crap.

So, I'm still looking for a good printer with decent cartridge prices, and realizing there are quite a few options out there.

Staggeringly poor software

I've been designing software for a living for around 35 years. The HP Smart app, and indeed the setup software within HP printers is right up there with the worst of 'em.
This week I bought a Roku stick for my TV. I plugged it in and within a couple of minutes I was connected and watching. Good companies can do it properly. The HP Smart app on my iPhone or Windows laptop simply refuses to play. Note, HP doesn't provide a version of my Linux laptop - why on Earth not?
It's 2024 for goodness sake. Wake up HP.

Hp envy printer

New printer. Lots of problems. Dreadful customer service. Talk over the top of you and quite patronising in their tone if you aren’t tech savy. Spent hours speaking to operators. More customer service training needed. My printer stopped printing twice.
Was told that because I had unsubscribed from instant ink my printer wouldn’t work!!! They can stop it from printing remotely if you don’t subscribe!!! You have to buy their cartridges from the hp store. Wish I’d never bought it.

Don't be fooled

Don't be fooled. This might say £1.99 per month but in effect you are paying to be crucified at that time you need a print out. The logistics and tech is just rubbish. And by signing up you are at the mercy of a bot. Noone will speak to you or charge you if you manage to last the 45 mins trying to get to a non AI human. I swear this is the worst decision I have ever made and coming out of it asap. Just ridiculous. You are better off just buying ink and not being beholden to a third party to tell you when you can and cannot print.

Horrible app

Eventually this app worked. But it was buggy and I had to reload it various times I went to use my printer (printer or scanner wouldn't work without me being singed in to HP. It is a horrible arrangement that I have to sign in to a provider's website to get a printer and scanner working (and have periodically to sign in again).

Basic scanning software for my HP…

Basic scanning software for my HP printer. Easy to use. The issue is that there is a multiple item scan choice. This produces separate images which can then be saved separately direct to pdf. Great I thought but it is actually saving the images to separate pages of the same pdf, not to separate pdfs. So now I have 130 files which I need to go through to remove the unwanted pages. Not sensible and a total waste of my time.,

Good brand gone bad

I had a hp3060, worked great for a long time then had problems, would not print or scan. replaced it with a hp2842e same problems, its their app (software). I like the old way, you hit print, it printed, you hit scan it scanned. now you have to create a account, log in, etc. it monitor's your printer etc. I may recycle it and buy a different brand. I am very disappointed in HP. I would not recommend this brand.

Not real software - written by 5 year olds

HP Smart, tried to use it to scan, it took 4 hours to set up, then I found out you cannot choose an area of a document or photo to scan. Just the whole thing. HP should hang their heads in shame. It's actually worse than Windows scan, which has almost zero functionality

Useless company

Signed up for the Instant Ink paper and ink bundle, received ink for it and after 2 shipments of ink still no paper. Try to contact them about the paper as their website states that their online help services deal with all issues relating to this service (for those of you considering the paper and ink service don’t!!!) yet after 3 hours of trying to get the issue sorted and being asked 6 times if I want information about the paper part of the subscription, I get told you have to phone up. Go to phone up and the UK number does not work, it doesnt even ring through. Try to query this and get told I must have entered the number wrong….i clicked on the link they sent me for the number and tried typing the number into my phone myself 4 times. No help whatsoever and the virtual assistant is the most useless thing ever, only giving information about where to find information about instant ink shipping…not useful when the printers don’t even register as being on half of the time even when they’ve been left on all day.

I will never be buying another HP printer again and will be advising fellow university goers to avoid HP like the plague. They’ve definitely gone downhill over the years!

The service doesn't work

The service doesn't work. Even if you go through tech support, they tell you they resolved the issue, but 10 months later it happens again. I ask for a refund on at least 12 months of service since it has not worked once in the over 2 years I have owned the printer. It gets escalated twice, and a guy calls me immediately with attitude, and his first words out of his mouth after his you are being recording speach, asks me why I didn't cancel earlier if I was not happy. How the can I know a service is not working again until it fails? It's my fault for giving a well known company a second chance after they tell me my issue resolved? I took them at their word that it worked. The sad part is, it's not a lot of money I am looking for, it was the principal. The refund amount would have been less than 26 dollars for 12 months. Oh, they did offer me 6 months after repeating that I was at fault for not canceling sooner.

Stuff not working happens, I would have kept using HP, just not the service. I will never use an HP product again, and I will make sure everyone knows this story.

I did let them know to keep the 13 dollars offered, I wouldn't want to be the reason to cause bankruptcy. The service doesn't work. HP Smart is an Absolute rip off

HP Smart is an Absolute rip off. They lure you in with a 6 months free subscription, which sounds generous and tempting but is actually a full phat lie. The deal only operates when the printer is connected to your wi-fi network. However the printer appears to be constantly offline. You can never connect permanently. Only fleetingly. Meanwhile they keep taking your money. HP are a beast of a company. They should be prosecuted for malpractice. How about a Class Action anyone?

My account was suspended after missing…

My account was suspended after missing 1 payment. I was paying 5 euros a month for 1 set of cartridges I received when I bought the printer. It was suppose to be free ink for 6 months. Now I cannot print because I missed a payment. I have been paying 5 euros a month since June 2023 when my trial ended. I have never received ink in my plan because I still had ink from the trial as I was not using the printer much. Now I cannot print because I missed a payment and now my account has been locked. I have tried to update my payment details but It wouldn't unlock the printer. I needed to print but could not use it. The online interface has horrible communications. The webpages are not functional. I will definitely never use HP again in my life. I have paid the total of 65 euros for the cartridges that were suppose to be free ink for 6 months with HP+ and I cannot use it because the locked my account. I will definitely report this to the relevant consumer protection service. Horrible experience. One star is too much.

HP printer -Quality gone down.

I have been using HP printer for many years.
10 Sept bought HP Smart Tank 5105.
It does not print double sided, which it states on the description. I have tried several time. But it just does not print double sided. When I choose HP Smart tank 5105 i can see the double sided option but it does not print double sided. Then it has HP Smart option, which does not give a double sided option.
This is my second printer within a week.
I returned HP Officejet 9730e, which gave error message: Cartridge not communicating with the printer. What B_S? Cartridges were provided withe 3 month ink supply. It is very disappointing that HP printers quality has gone down badly.

I've had a HP OfficePro 9010 series

I've had a HP OfficePro 9010 series, and as there is no issue with the printer itself, this F'n Smart APP account is a thieving program. I signed up for the instant ink, which was described to me as when your low, we'll ship it to you, then charge you, yet I have only ever received (1) box of ink to date, and have been charged every month, without my knowing (company), for any pages of paper, (that I buy & use, over 100 pgs of use per month, which has been anywhere from $18 - $40/month. Within the last 1.5 yrs, they stole $369.67 from me, that they now say was valid charges, and will not refund my $. This is some hidden bull$%*@ right here, and their customer service dept and people are F'n morons. Don't waste your time with their "smart app", as it is just another way for corporations to screw over everyone!

Most frustrating

Had to use this with the newly bought HP Envy 6032e, which would not print with a simple normal lead connection to the computer. The product is not fit for purpose. It takes ages to get it to work. It is overcomplicated beyond belief to generate profit and 0 customer satisfaction. I feel robbed. This should be taken off the market.

I would give zero stars if I could

I would give zero stars if I could. I have never known a piece of software with a single function to repeatedly perform so badly and never get fixed. Connecting a printer, printing, scanning - all turned into hair tearingly frustrating tasks. It genuinely feels as if HP are getting a sick kick out of putting their users through it. More fool anyone who gives them a single penny of their money

I will never buy HP printers ever again. Every single time I needed to print anything; it was always a hassle of nonstop issues. The printer will not work without their 'Ink Subscription" and if you miss even one payment, you can forget about printing at all, because the next thing you know 'your' printer wont connect to the internet. It's nothing but a rort and a waste of money

I paid for the monthly subscription for…HP Smart Printer

I paid for the monthly subscription for over 12th months. I was always being disconnected from the internet, no fault of my own. HP would then suspend my account, I then had to phone them to sort it out and take the block that they had put on my printer. After this happening several times resulting in my low usage if the ink contract that I was paying for and them confirming that I had hundreds of pages carried over yo the next month i decided to cancel my contract.
I was informed by HP that my use of my printer would not work with their ink after 2 weeks, that I had paid for in. My monthly subscription.
This happened and the block went on the printer.
On contacting HP to ask if the block would go if I bought my own ink, they could not confirm that it would work, only that it might.
I would say that the printer is now useless because I subscribed to the monthly subscription payment.
I feel that it it not worth paying for HP ink to even try to see if it works so I am now looking to buy another printer.
