IBBFA (International Ballet Barre Fitness Association) is a professional credentialing authority for barre instructors, operating since 2008. More than 7,000 instructors across over 40 countries hold IBBFA credentials. IBBFA is not a barre method, a franchise, or a studio brand. It certifies the foundation knowledge every barre instructor needs to teach safely: anatomy, biomechanics, technique, class design, cueing, and scope of practice. Because the credential applies across every method and lineage, instructors trained elsewhere often add it rather than replace the training they already hold. The Certified Barre Instructor (CBI) credential includes a 35-hour self-paced curriculum, a written examination of 60 questions drawn from a 300-question bank with a 70% passing threshold, and a live practical evaluation assessed against a 155-point rubric by a credentialed Master Instructor over video conference. It is not a recorded video submission or an auto-graded quiz. Enrollment is $599 and includes two years of Active status. Completing the CBI bundle earns continuing education credits recognized by eight providers: ACE, NASM, AFAA, ISSA, CanFitPro, NPCP, AUSactive, and ACSM. The CBI is also an Endorsed Qualification with REPs UK. Credentials progress through four specialty certifications to Principal Instructor, Master Instructor, and Fellow.
