Disgrace

I am deeply disappointed and angry with Independence Blue Cross. During my cancer treatment, they denied coverage for proton therapy—despite clear medical evidence that traditional radiation would severely damage my heart and lungs. Their refusal forced my doctors to perform invasive surgery, which led to complications requiring weeks of occupational and physical therapy, all out-of-pocket.
The emotional toll of fighting for basic care while battling cancer has been devastating. IBX’s negligence has not only prolonged my recovery but has cost me thousands of dollars unnecessarily. Their customer service is unresponsive, and their appeals process is exhausting and ineffective.
No one should have to fight their insurance company while fighting for their life.

Independence Doesn't Pay Claims

Independence BCBS has had me resubmit a claim after requesting additional information for the original, and closing it before the additional information (unnecessary) had been received by them within a 2 week period. They do not have any online claims system to allow for information to be uploaded, which in my opinion is because it's easier to claim they "didn't receive" or "lost track" of the paperwork. You owe me $3,000 BCBS, and I will keep opening up these legitimate claims until you pay up.

Ignored my claim for CPAP re-imbursement

This company is terrible. I got a prescription for a CPAP and called to find an in-network provider to get a machine from and the woman I talked to was useless. She gave me the name of 2 medical device providers, neither of which sold CPAPs. I ended up purchasing a CPAP from Lofta, online, which is who did my at home sleep study, and filed a claim to be at least partially re-imbursed for the CPAP.

After a month I called to get an update on my claim and was told "it takes 3-6 months to show up in our system". Really? I submitted all the paperwork electronically, it should show up immediately. After resubmitting the paperwork 3 times I finally gave up, never getting any re-imbursement. Over $2k out of pocket. This insurance is a scam, like most health insurance in this day and age. Stay away.

My sister called twice for information…

Update: I finally got through to Blue Cross, got the information, and relayed my experience with their website and customer service.

My sister called twice for information on deductibles and copays for out of network gynecologist. She was disconnected twice. I called twice and have been on hold for almost an hour. Tried logging into ibx.com
login only to get the Terms and Agreement page greyed out where it says Accept and Submit.
