Jericho Writers is a goldmine for novice, aspiring authors. Everything you need to learn about professional writing and the publishing world is on their website. Their crown jewel is a full, in-depth manuscript assessment. My editor / mentor, Vee Walker, produced a masterpiece, a masterclass in tutorial editorship. She read it twice, using “track check” to comment on the text, where it was good, outstanding and where it was rubbish, often suggesting better choices of phrasing, all aimed at keeping up the pace of storytelling. She had literally crawled over the entire text line by line. Vee immersed herself into the mindset of my story, in fact into me as a person. We cannot all be best sellers, but JW help to bring out the best of a person’s abilities, develop a quiet self-discovery of confidence which transfers beyond the realm of writing, into our everyday life. My highest praise to the JW team!

On the whole I think this company is a fantastic resource for new writers. The courses offered free to premium members and being able to get feedback on Townhouse are really helpful.
However I did have a bad experience when I did an agent one to one with Emily MacDonald. She informed me that as my book is non-fiction I should not have written a synopsis but rather a chapter outline. This is bizarre advice as her agency requires a synopsis, as do all of the others whose submission requirements I have looked at. She therefore gave me no substantive advice on my synopsis, and the very little 'advice' that she gave on my text was delivered in a contemptuous manner.

I complained to Jericho and the team member who dealt with it was extremely helpful, as they all are, and tried her best to compensate by providing me with information.

So I did get something useful for my money, but all the same I found this an unpleasant experience. Agents should realise that people may have been working on a book for years and even if they think it is rubbish they should be tactful and helpful.

Although the website makes it not so easy to reach what you need the support from the team has been excellent

I am a Premium member writing a novel. After my husband had a stroke earlier this year our family was in crisis. I didn't write anything on my novel for 10 months. The longer it went the more I lost my confidence. I emailed Jericho Writers for support to get back to my writing. I received back a fantastically helpful email suggesting various master classes (to which as a Premium Member I have free access) all of them completely relevant. Just watching the very first one helped me get back in touch with my novel.

If I had had to trawl through all the available masterclasses myself I don't think I would have come up with such a relevant list; plus my confidence was so low I don't think I would have done it.

Imogen for Jericho Writers also suggested a number of blogposts on the same topic, again all of them relevant.
She also suggested getting involved with Feedback Friday which I hope to do.

This alone has made my subscription to Premium Membership worthwhile, not to mention all the other free masterclasses on every topic to do with writing and getting published that are available.

I have found Jericho Writers to be an amazing support for my writing ambitions. As a Premium Member, I have access to loads and loads of online masterclasses, video courses, and helpful blog posts. I also really appreciate their relationship with editors, agents and the publishing industry. There is simply no way I would know how to get my manuscript published without the help, support and advice of Jericho Writers!

I found the review very useful for obtaining advice on what is available for non fiction writers. There is so much on the website about novel writting and finding relevant information on progressing my particular field is a little oblique. I now have more to work with.

I wanted to highlight the invaluable support and advice I’ve received from Emily in the writer support team who has spent time helping me develop and edit my query letter for agents - as well as discussing my writing and the potential publishing options for my novel,
This 1-1 support has been an added bonus in addition to the online tutorials/Videos.

Jericho, through Verity at Courses, took a real personal interest in my situation as an underrepresented writer (I am the primary carer for my disabled husband) and made a great effort to help me, suggesting sources of funding and informing me about bursaries offered by Jericho for mentoring and the self-editing course. In my experience, Jericho does its utmost to help disadvantaged writers and takes a real personal interest in each case. Thank you, Verity. Thank you, Jericho.

First experience of an event like this, and it more than met my expectations. Full of informative, well presented sessions and workshops plus two very helpful 1:1s with agents. And being with fellow writers for a full weekend was calming (writers are lovely people), and exhilarating at the same time - met so many interesting people.

The content was helpful to writers at many stages of development, the atmosphere was positive and supportive, and the staff were professional and passionate. I look forward to attending next year and wish I could have devoted the full weekend to the conference. Thank you!

Impressed that team have listened to feedback on past events and this was much slicker and professional with less queuing and the return of the sit-down dinner, a rare chance to build in person connections with other writers.

What a wonderful weekend of learning and meeting fellow writers. I've come away from the festival with a notebook brimming with notes and ideas! With truly inspiring workshops, well-prepared speakers and opportunities to get agent feedback, it's definitely worth it even if it is expensive.

I attended the Festival of Writing this year for the first time. A packed weekend but timetabled so well that nothing felt overwhelming. I'll definitely go back next year and would highly recommend.
Membership isn't cheap but you get so much from the website, and the support from the Jericho team is second to none.

The London Festival of Writing is a full on experience run by people who know what they are doing, make it fun, informative and varied. People take their writing very seriously - as they should - and there is no better place to receive the encouragement and guidance necessary to use our voices and keep going. Well done Jericho Team!

Returning to the festival was a joy. Great speakers, great social opportunities with other writers. Plenty to inspire, and I went away bursting with ideas, as always.
