Friendly and Professional HTB Redemption
Kew Law in Hadleigh have been friendly, professional, and communicated openly and promptly to follow through with our Help to Buy Redemption case. This has been invaluable due to the limited deadline associated with Help to Buy valuations as I was nervous about delays from solicitors based on previous experiences with other firms and reviews here (Trustpilot). I am pleased to say however, that Millie and the team have been excellent and I would definitely recommend them and look to use Kew Law in the future.
Cheated
Our experience with Kewlaw was not pleasant. Our dealings with them was last year (2025) but didn’t read any reviews before we used their services unfortunately.
They were recommended by an estate agent and seemed ok when we had our first video meeting for eviction proceedings. As time went on the communication was rare and only contact was when they wanted money to be transferred into their account.
When we questioned at times on certain issues which we didn’t understand you were made to feel stupid. On one occasion we called and this person was so unhelpful with every question we asked and requested a call back he said I’ll find out every time as he couldn’t answer anything we had asked. We also wanted to talk to a Jennifer Hardy whom we initially had the meeting with but she would never come on the phone.
After few months with chasing on updates we finally got the evection order and then we were suggested to get a bailiff as process would be quicker so we agreed.
Again after no further correspondence from Kew law we called the courts directly to ask when will the bailiff remove the tenant to which the court advised that they have not received anything from the solicitor. The answer from Kew law was they had emailed but the court had no track of an email.
When chased again to get updates which was just useless every time. We then realised that we were being charged every call we made which they failed to tell us. We sure there was money left on account as we didn’t need baliff in the end but were told the account had no money left.
STAY AWAY HONESTLY AND READ REVIEWS as that was our mistake and cost us £4500 appx.
ITS A SCAM!!
Please, anyone who has had a bad experience with Kew Law, please please please go straight to the Legal Ombudsman and report them, as they are scamming vulnerable people out of money!!
They do not help you!!
My case has been ongoing with them over a year, I have been chasing them up for months because they are so slow, and now they are charging me for all the times I have been in contact with them, threatening me with bailiffs and CCJs!
James Kew doesn’t care!!!
REPORT REPORT REPORT!!
Avoid this company at all costs!!
Avoid this company at all costs!!!
As a “family run”business, the Kews don’t care about actually helping you, or resolving problems! They just want your money!!!
They take months to actually do the work, and then charge you for contacting them for an update!! Such a backwards company!
The reviews speak for themselves!!!
Purchase and lease extension
Purchase and lease extension. I found the whole process painfully slow, compared to previous purchases.

Use this solicitors if you are a landlord and want a expensive court case, they’re happy to delay a urgent email needed with a simple yes or no to the council about if detrimental electrical works are going to be completed. Leaving a 60 year old lady without heating in the winter. I’m sure Kew will be happy with the fees they shall charge the landlord for their mistakes. Damn right disgusting.
Jennifer hardy and Keir billingly were the people we asked for support from
In pretty sure lad bible and a lot of social media platforms will take a nice free story on how Kew law employees think it’s acceptable to delay a 60 year old woman getting help from the council

I had a solicitor i was selling my bungalow trouble was they gave me a solicitor from Braintree office. I live in Clacton. I sore my solicitor only once to sign all the documents that was all. I had to keep phoning him no answer i ask to speak to someone in the end a lady Ellie Hubbard tried to give me answers i did not know who she was. In the end my buyer pulled out no consern from my solicitor wich was James Kew.
IF YOU WANT CONVEYANCING - GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!
WELL! I wish i saw these reviews before i used these bunch of amateurs for conveyancing.
I deal with legal counsel on a daily basis and i know what competent legal work looks like and i know how competent solicitors operate.
Competent isnt a word i would associate with KewLaw.
The partners just palm everything and i mean absolutely everything off onto what look, sound and feel like teenagers who havent got an ounce of proper or qualified legal experience between them.
The Benfleet/Hadleigh office feels like a morgue.
James was meant to be the lead on our case - we heard from him once but was never contactable and never replied after the first communication. everything was dealt with by unqualified people.
The process dragged on and on and on, the sellers solicitors and my estate agent chasing them consistently.
Legal documents with our names mis-spelled, littered with typo's and even THE WRONG ADDRESS of the house we were buying... and no not just a typo.. an address miles away!
Fees kept being added but we were never told what for and had to keep questioning everything.
Honestly if we weren't so forthcoming with info we would have never have got this completed.
You guys should be ashamed of the practice you run and how you run it putting loads of work onto little girls who cant handle it and arent qualified to do it!
Avoid this firm at all costs
Avoid this firm at all costs. I instructed them to handle a straightforward transfer of equity that should have taken no more than 1–4 weeks. There were no negotiations required, no legal complications, and all documentation was already in order. Instead, it became a 6–7 month ordeal caused entirely by their lack of care, organisation, and urgency.
From day one I made it clear that this was a time-sensitive and serious situation. I was buying the property from my ex-partner, who, along with her family, had subjected me to violence, intimidation, and abuse for 18 months. Every delay from the firm increased my risk, yet they showed no empathy and made no effort to prioritise my case.
Their negligence had significant consequences. During their delays, my mortgage deal expired, causing my payments to double overnight. My ex refused to contribute, forcing me to pay nine months of double payments on my own. Throughout this time, the firm made no meaningful progress.
They misplaced my paperwork, lied about it, caused emotional distress, and created unnecessary financial hardship. It became obvious they couldn’t handle even a basic transfer of equity.
I eventually left them and instructed a new solicitor, who completed the entire transfer in 7 days — proving how unacceptable Kew Law’s delays were.
Despite failing to complete the job, Kew Law still demanded payment. I ultimately paid around 90% of their fees, not because they had earned it, but because after two years fighting my ex for the property, losing my father, and almost losing my mother, I had no strength left to fight them too.
This firm is an absolute disgrace. I strongly recommend avoiding them.
Professional and responsive
The solicitors we dealt with at the Colchester branch were extremely professional and responsive.
They left no stone unturned and provided us with a lot of confidence
House Purchase
We used Kew for our first house purchase and were very impressed by the service provided. Laura and her team kept us well informed throughout the process and were very helpful in explaining things that were new to us. We couldn’t have got through the sale without the team in Colchester, would recommend! Thank you!
Magnificent! I have used Stephanie Rogers at Kew law…
I have used Stephanie Rogers at Kew law Wickford for a house sale/purchase and she was magnificent! Thank you Stephanie, Lauren and team!
BEWARE
BEWARE! I have asked my mother to consult the Citizens Advice Bureau concerning this. After the death of my father, she went to ask them for a quote for probate, and they said they would email it. When they emailed it, it clearly said they would take a percentage of the estate, so my mother replied, thanking them and declining. They then sent her a bill for over £300; she settled without realising that no other law firm she consulted had billed her for asking how much probate would cost. She was there less than 20 minutes, and they added to the burden of her grief. Please think carefully before walking through their front door.
CCJ For Professional Negligence - Avoid. Other firms are available in the Essex region
In a General Form of Judgement by Deputy District Judge Kapoor, (case 465MC389) dated 15th October 2025, judgement was ordered in favour of the Claimant, Walter Mews Ltd against the Defendant, Kew Law LLP for damages, fees and interest.
In his judgment statement, following the hearing at the County Court, Judge Kapoor stated that "...in both breach of contract and professional negligence the breach [of Kew Law] has been established [by Walter Mews]..."
Kew Law's own Litigation Department in the form of Jennifer Hardy represented itself in its failed defence.
Go Elsewhere
I hired Kew for a divorce case but was eventually forced to terminate their services and hire replacement counsel. This failure has caused me significant extra cost and delays, and my case remains unresolved. They took a simple matter and made it unnecessarily complicated and drawn out.
Their service was defined by two major flaws:
Extreme Slowness: Replies to even urgent queries were consistently late, often taking multiple business days. This constant delay stalled progress and left me feeling like a low priority, multiple times I had to chase them up for a reply or to acknowledge my email even
Lack of Clarity: When responses arrived, they were habitually overcomplicated, verbose, and filled with legal jargon. They failed to provide concise, plain-English explanations, adding immense stress to a routine legal process.
If you value prompt, clear, and professional communication, I strongly advise looking elsewhere.
I had a terrible experience with Kew…
I had a terrible experience with Kew Law LLP during my property purchase. As a first-time buyer, I expected clear communication, guidance, and professionalism, but instead, I faced delays, poor service, and a complete lack of responsiveness from my assigned solicitor.
🔹 Lack of Communication – My emails and inquiries were ignored for weeks, leaving me uncertain about important stages of my purchase. I had to chase multiple times just to get basic updates.
🔹 Completion Date Confusion – My preferred completion date was never acknowledged, and I was suddenly given a last-minute proposed date that I had never agreed to. This caused stress and unnecessary disruption.
🔹 Negligence with Key Documents – I had to repeatedly request confirmation that my signed contracts and deposit had been received. Even worse, I was notified at the last minute about an issue with a bankruptcy certificate—something that could have been flagged much earlier, forcing me to take urgent time off work.
🔹 Unprofessional & Unreliable Service – Instead of getting updates from my solicitor, I had to rely on my sales progressor because communication was so poor. Even they expressed frustration at the lack of responsiveness.
This process caused me avoidable stress, financial inconvenience, and wasted time. I would not recommend Kew Law LLP to anyone looking for reliable and professional legal support.
INSTRUCT THESE FOR A HOUSE MOVE!
I don’t often write reviews if I’m honest, but with the service I have had from Kew Law I felt compelled to. I have been using Kew Law for the past year and a half. I had one house move chain fall through (no fault of Kew Law) due to a terrible solicitor at the bottom of the chain. So I was aware how important solicitors are in a successful house move. Thankfully I have just exchanged on a house, and I have Maddi Luck and Harleigh Hall to thank for that. Harleigh took on the case initially and was rapid in getting everything together, explaining everything well and even in the latter stages of the process, she was actually advising the other solicitors in the chain in what they can and can’t do. Unbelievable knowledge and extremely capable. Maddi took on most of the case and she is an unbelievable solicitor. It is safe to safe we were stressed during this process and if I had any questions, I would email Maddi and she would respond within 10 minutes. I was on holiday with a family friend who is also a conveyance solicitor and even she was blown away with Maddi’s work. I could not have got through this process without Maddi and Harleigh and if you are reading this from the management of Kew Law, you should be incredibly proud that these two work for you
I would strongly advise against using…
I would strongly advise against using this solicitor. The communication throughout the whole process was absolutely terrible. Emails and phone calls were often ignored for days and when I did finally get a reply it was vague and unhelpful. I constantly had to chase for updates and was left feeling completely in the dark about what was happening with my sale.
The only time I actually heard from my assigned solicitor directly was on the day of completion — and she seemed to be expecting praise for her efforts, which she certainly did not receive from me.
To make matters worse, the house I was purchasing fell through and I was still charged £1,000 in fees. Little did I know at the time that any solicitor worth their salt operates on a proper "No Completion, No Legal Fee" basis. I am now using a different solicitor who provides this as standard, and the difference in professionalism is night and day.
Overall, I found this firm unprofessional, unresponsive, and very difficult to deal with. They added stress instead of easing it and left me feeling taken advantage of. I would never use them again and cannot recommend them to anyone.
Needed a codicil to my will
Needed a codicil to my will. Visited Burnham branch about a month ago.
Receptionist ferried my questions to and fro from an unseen individual, who deigned to speak in person. Given an interview time for today. Receptionist unaware, (no Diary?).
As I had left my typed amendments with them though, (stupi boy) straitforward. Casualy asked the cost, visit to unseen individual again, then quoted £120.
Needless to say I cancelled my unseen solicitor and left.
If a practice cannot be bothered to meet and greet clients I advise you all look elswhere.
Poor solicitor
Poor solicitor. I would avoid as you will save money and pain seeking legal advice from an alternate source. They could not answer the simplest of requests, ignored the proposals we made and ultimately cost alot of money to get no where further than when we started.
Avoid.
