Castle Croft

Susan and I moved to the Castle Croft development in Barnard Castle just over a year ago. It has to be said that there were a few niggles, but nothing that would make us write a damning review. Any issues have been resolved with the excellent help of Michelle and Mike, who always make a point of saying hello and have a chat when they can.
Although the development is still ongoing the site is kept clean and tidy with very little disruption.
The site is in a great location and doesn't feel or look like a new estate of little boxes, its got a good mix of different style properties all with character.
Really glad we moved here.

Michelle Knightingale at Barnard…

Michelle Knightingale at Barnard Castle’s Castle Croft estate made the whole process of buying our home a highly enjoyable experience, paying close attention to everything and helping move the whole thing forward as quickly as possible. After completion she has remained Enthusiastic and interested in how everything is going, always finding the time to say hi. Building Manager Mike Simpson has continually impressed me, always having the time to keep us up dated how our snag list is getting on or Just to say hi and ask how everything’s going. We Love our new home and with the continuous work put in by Michelle, Castle Croft has a real community feel.

Fantastic Customer Service!!!

We are extremely happy with our new home. Michelle Knightingale was fantastic at helping us with the sale and all the information we would need every step of the way. The site manager, Mike Simpson, has been extremely helpful from the initial handover and explaining how the property was built and how everything works to getting any minor issues sorted for us straight away. We mentioned the shower was not getting hot and water pressure was low after a couple of days of moving in, within 20 minutes plumber had been and sorted it 5* service. Highly recommended site at Castle Croft, Barnard Castle.

I bought my property at Kingsmoor Park

I bought my property at Kingsmoor Park 3 and a half years ago. Initial correspondence with the sales lady was lovely but when the build was underway, we were not informed of delays until one week before completion. They didn’t do the shower like we requested. We made a snag list and the site managed Ron Hobbs rang me up and called me a thief and made me cry - truly awful man.
After 3 years of living there, both bathrooms leaking, all the promises broken, finding broken glass under the turf and an ever problematic gate - we have moved. I’ve lived in many new builds in my life - Kier does not compare to the likes of David Wilson. Cheap material, shocking manager. 3 years later and I’m still reeling at the treatment we were subjected to. The house itself now is not bad.Think twice before buying. And if so - really look if there’s a better developer elsewhere.

Stay clear of this company!

Where do you start with this company!
Sales excellent then downhill all the way. I moved in last October 2019 expecting work including a road to be finished by February. There are far too many problems on site including the drains which they got so wrong etc who knows when we will get a road. We all have loads of problems and they never answer emails. I have fewer jobs that need correcting than most but Kier have not provided the promised after care and seem to avoid our site at all costs. I have invited them down to PL9 but they never come. They cannot blame Covid.
Stay clear of this company.

5 Star Kier

Having read many of the bad reviews on here I am at a loss as to why my experience with Kier at the Hambleton Chase development is the complete opposite. From the start, attention to detail has been at the forefront of my purchase. Sales staff were attentive and worked for us not against us. Flow of information was excellent and when things didn't go to plan they were flexible. Moving in was organised, smooth and trouble free. The build quality and standards outside and in were excellent and bear no relation to other reviews. This is our 3rd new build and this house is the best so far. Minor snags were identified and cleared up within 2 weeks of moving in. The site manager has been approachable and attentive. After 1 month I would happily recommend a Kier home based on our experience at Hambleton Chase and consider them to be a 5* builder not the 3* as currently externally rated.

Kier Living - A warning to prospective purchasers.

Kier construct Beautifully Designed Home, taking care in the Design of its Developments. They achieve imaginative and attractive settings, where prospective purchasers want to live.Hence my purchase in May 2018, my satisfaction and that of my Neighbours was short lived.

Kier does little to ensure that the inside of properties match the external appearance. They employ Sub- Contractors to undertake all internal works, With scant supervision by Kier. The quality of internal finish appears to be of no importance, the urgency is to get Handover done.

I detail below issues that prospective purchasers should be made aware of and the complacency and disregard shown towards purchasers.

As my Service Provider Eon billed each month, I assumed all was well, until I received an offer to fit a Smart Meter. I was surprised that one was not fitted in such a new property. The fitting engineer informed me that a Smart Meter was in fact installed and asked to see the Visual Display Unit. As one was not present when I moved in, he advised that I contact Kier, as the Unit would have been given to Kier.

Kier informed me that the Unit was probably in the meter cupboard, I checked, it wasn’t there. The Site Manager contacted E.on, who informed him that I had to order and pay £30 for the missing. The Site Manager confirmed that Kier would refund the £30 on the provision of the paid Reciept.

Kier Customer Services, requested my Bank Details and Eon Receipt. Emailed to Kier on 18/02/20. on 02/03/20 Kier advised that Payment had been authorised and to keep checking my account. The transfer has still not happened, Kier claim the delay is due to Covid-19.

Ten months on, the £30 refund is of little significance , it’s the principle that matters. My concern is the Complacency and Lack of Respect Kier persistently demonstrates to its purchasers, this is a simple matter would take only a few minutes to resolve.

I feel this ridiculous situation needs to be exposed, alongside my overall experience following a purchase of a Kier Home. Hopefully my Review will serve as a warning to prospective purchasers.

1. Walls not adequately prepared prior to painting, grit evident beneath the emulsion. Uneven surfaces and paint runs evident on many walls.
2. My 91year old Mother cut her had on the Stair Hand Rail, due to sharp grit protruding through the paint.
3. Skirting, Door Frames and Windows were smothered in mastic used to fill voids between surfaces. Shrinkage gaps appear, requiring removal and Application of an appropriate filler.
4. 1.5 Kilos of Mastic was removed from both sides of 2 stairways, peeling and shrinkage between the Stairs and plasterboard exposed huge gaps.
5. Mastic around Window Frames after walls had been painted, discoloured and pulls away from the Walls.
6. Ensuite Shower Tray Mastic failed, causing seepage to the ceiling below. Poorly fitted waste pipes to Ensuite Shower Tray, caused blockages and back flow.
7. Sink to Cloakroom required refitting and replacement of Vinyl flooring.
8. Washing Machine leak caused severe flooding to Kitchen Cloakroom and Hallway, requiring replacement of all flooring.
9. Kitchen Worktops replaced due to poorly constructed joints filled with Mastic and consequent water damaged
10. Scant respect for the Security of my Property during repairs. Twice Kier lost the Front Door Key leaving my property vulnerable for weeks before fitting New locks.
11. Unable to set Radiator Valves as fitted facing wall.
12. Garage Door refit due to frequent jamming issues.
13. The Garage Floor required a full days grinding of the uneven surface by 2 Workmen, prior to the application of self levelling compound.

All my Neighbours experienced similar issues, these are eventually addressed but never checked by a Kier Representative. A vigorous quality check of workmanship, before paying subcontractors, would reduce these disruptive incidents.

It is with great regret that I detail my experience of purchasing a Kier home.

I am frustrated at Kier Eastern Customer Services blatant refusal to resolve this issue of the refund of the paltry sum of £30. Had this matter been addressed , I most probably not have been compelled to highlight my properties faults.

I moved into my new property a month…

I moved into my new property a month ago, back garden was unlevelled and my 3 year old fell in a hole that was 5 inches + deep and pretty wide. I contacted them about this telling them the grounds are on level on the whole garden and weeks have passed and nothing ! My son has again tripped in a other hole after trying to cover the ones I could see up with garden todays. I had missed on and he has yet hurt himself again. I will be seeking legal advice.

Had my new home for nearly 3 years now

Had my new home for nearly 3 years now, overall most things are good. The biggest problem many housebuilders face are poor contractors coming in and doing a shoddy job, if they can demand better service from the subbies they instruct then less people would have a snagging list.

One example I have is our garage guttering wasn't draining in the right direction, water pooling at the wrong end. Out came a 'gutter specialist' who proceeded to tell me the gutter was correct. When I pointed out that birds are using it as a bath he still insisted it had been fitted correctly. I actually asked him to leave, it was then fixed by another firm.

Kier do okay, they could do a lot better but are definitely let down by some very poor contractors, we had 3 high gloss kitchen doors heavily scratched that needed replacing. You can't tell me the kitchen fitters didn't notice that. Why didn't they sort it so the customer didn't even have to use snagging to sort it? It's an example of subbies not giving an care to what they're doing.

Now, if you are interested in a poor developer you need to visit my website about Taylor Wimpey. Built my home on land they didn't have legal title for then had my 1 star poor rating on trustpilot removed. If you fancy a read head to www taylorwimpeyterror dot co dot uk and find out how these guys operate.

The most appalling customer service

The most appalling customer service: - defects listed since February are not dealt with or not finished; - emails not answered; - automatic emails sent with reference numbers to someone else's defects; - automatic email sent saying defect dealt with when it was not, person on the phone could not even find the record of the defect or reference; - email sent somebody will be in attendance stating the date that is in the past and despite numerous attempts to contact via email (in order to maintain the audit trail of attempts no response. Kier Living should really be ashamed of themselves, they showed over and over that they only care to sell you the house, and really dont care what happens after

This is a second review as kier say…

This is a second review as kier say they will sort it after the first one and then ignore you like many other peoples reviews on here

9 months we have been in our house and still having big issues - site manager says he will sort them then you don’t hear from him again same with customer service
They ignore you time after time

Only buy if you know you won’t have new build problems (which I doubt no houses will)
Be prepared to chase chase and chase and get no where
It’s a complete joke

The Avenue - Wingerworth Poor site management no support for Customer Service

We have lived in our house for almost a year and still have unresolved issues. New issues seem to be appearing all the time and despite the best efforts of Lee Goodman (Head of Customer Service) no one seems to care. Lee does not appear to get any support and does his best to arrange for works to be done but they don’t happen.

Site management is poor and if we report anything we are made to feel bad about complaining. We have an issue with drainage outside our house and all the verges and beds have been totally neglected. Some of the trees have died and despite numerous attempts by Lee nothing has been done. It is becoming an embarrassment to live here and affecting my mental health and taking away the enjoyment of living in a what should be a dream home in a beautiful setting.

The 24 hour support is a joke especially when our garage door would not shut and we were told to empty the contents into the house to keep them safe. They didn’t organise for anyone to come out when none of the residents on site didn’t have gas and left us overnight with no heating or hot water with a toddler in the house in December.

We are now at the end of our tether and considering selling up.

Poor site management.

We bought a new home from Developers that used Kier as the contractor. We have had lots of problems on the Development that have basically been due to poor of management of sub-contractors. After bringing attention to the problems to the Developer results in little action without persistent pressure. The latest is a problem with the drainage system to the estate which has taken over a year for the problem to be accepted but still unresolved.

Appalling after service to correct…

Appalling after service to correct defects. Tiles on the roof pulled up by wind and 8 weeks later no one coming to fix it. Just waiting for them to detach fully, fly, and hit a contractor in site working!
Garden gates useless C's wind blew and bent the fence so no locks actually lock. It's safety issue. Drones are flying, things missing from the garden, 12 weeks, no one coming! Porch lights 5 months not working, no one turning up to fix it! It's probably with every builder, once they get money, they do not care. Workmen still on site, hence no excuse to come and fix it. I bet it's to do with my accent and foreign name!!!!

Terrible Customer Care

Terrible Customer Care. It has become apparent that as soon as Kier get your money they do not care about the after care and resolving issues covered by the 2 year builder warranty period. I first emailed customer care on 7th July 2020 with my issues, i have since resent 5 times, also sending to the info email address with no response. This is the second newbuild home i purchased a miller homes house for my first house and never had the problems that i have had with Kier.

Would give this 0 stars if I could!

Would give this 0 stars if I could!

Bought our house just over 2 years ago and had several issues with snagging but this was not the major issue.

Kier changed a party walk/fence on our neighbours insistence - despite our protestation Kier told us we had to comply with the work being carried out under conditions within the contract of sale.

The neighbour is now complaining that the fence is in the wrong place and forcing us to seek legal advice at a hefty cost (1000s not 100s).

Despite asking Kier for assistance they have refused to offer any help - help that is desperately needed to put a situation they created to rest.

So wish we'd gone to Barretts or Wilson's.

Avoid Kier like the plague - once they have sealed the sale they do not give a damn!
