Kununu

Kununu: a review platform that seems to favour companies over users

I have completely lost confidence in kununu as an independent review platform.

I posted a negative review about a company based on my genuine experience as a job applicant. The company disputed that I had ever applied, so kununu temporarily removed my review and asked me to provide evidence.

I provided clear and verifiable evidence, including PDF copies of emails documenting my application and the recruitment process. The evidence clearly demonstrated that I had applied, progressed through the recruitment process and had genuine interactions with the company.

After reviewing the evidence, kununu confirmed that my review had been put back online.

You would think that would be the end of the matter.

It wasn't.

My review has now been removed again:

This is what I find completely unacceptable. I complied with kununu's verification process, provided the evidence they requested, and they themselves confirmed that the evidence was sufficient to put my review back online. Yet the review has subsequently disappeared again.

So what exactly is the point of providing evidence if, after proving that the review is genuine, kununu can simply remove it again?

I have no problem with a platform verifying reviews or investigating potentially fraudulent content. That is perfectly reasonable. What I do have a problem with is a system where companies can challenge negative reviews and users are expected to prove their experience, only for the platform to apparently ignore that evidence afterwards.

A review platform is supposed to provide an authentic picture of people's experiences, including negative ones. If companies can effectively make legitimate negative reviews disappear despite the user providing clear evidence, then these ratings become almost meaningless.

At this point, I genuinely question whether kununu is acting as a neutral review platform or primarily as a reputation-management service for companies.

If negative reviews are treated as a problem to be removed rather than genuine experiences to be represented, then kununu has fundamentally failed its users.

Based on my experience, I would not consider kununu's ratings a reliable representation of what employees and applicants actually experience.

Lack of Credibility - Negative Reviews Can Disappear

I've been monitoring a specific company profile on this platform and have witnessed a very concerning practice. Over time, all the negative reviews for this employer systematically vanished, leaving only the glowing, positive ones.
This strongly suggests that companies can pay to have critical feedback removed, which completely undermines the purpose of an "open" review platform. It makes Kununu an untrustworthy and unreliable source for anyone seeking genuine insight into a potential employer. I cannot recommend it.

When employer branding overshadows real reviews

The idea behind kununu is good, but its execution appears increasingly skewed. Paying companies gain more visibility and control over their image. Critical reviews often disappear, while positive ones appear in suspicious waves. The award system is based solely on short-term averages. There are growing concerns about true anonymity – this is not how trust is built.

This platform has lost all credibility

This platform has lost all credibility. When you leave a review about a company, it feels like the company can simply pay to influence or bury negative feedback. In the end, the reviews seem more like marketing content written by the companies themselves rather than genuine employees experiences.

This site cannot be trusted

I was once unlucky enough to work in a very dangerous place, where workers are treated like slaves and work methods are criminal. No one could stand it for more than a year, and at best you received psychological trauma, and at worst, problems with the law. Within two years after my dismissal, I saw the appearance of 1* reviews, where people described familiar suffering. There were already at least 10 of them. All these reviews are deleted within a week - as I believe, at the request of the employer. And in the company profile there remain fake, sweet positive reviews that were written by the employer himself. Then no. Unfortunately, in Germany, where they are so afraid of problems with lawyers, such sites cannot be trusted.

Kununu supports companies to easily remove negative reviews!

I can only relate to all the negative reviews! Kununu pretends to be on the employee's side when it come to rating companies. Until now, I have made the experience that Kununu is on the employer's side and accepts any kind of feedback from companies in order to remove negative reviews. Kununu takes them down immediately, while (ex-)employees have to prove all the time that their opinion was true. Even, if you provide evidence, Kununu does not care at all! That's insane...

They are not neutral

They are not neutral; they do not allow the reality of what happens at some firms to be expressed, removing negative comments and leaving only positive ones just to look good with them. For me, they have lost credibility, but I ask myself: why do they have a review page if they don't allow former employees to express themselves? We want people to know how the firm where we worked for years treated us so poorly, and we wanted to share our experiences honestly, but they blocked our reviews many times, and we are tired of the same thing. Therefore, we urge some of you not to waste your time on Kununu writing negative reviews because they will delete them and make you look bad!

Anything bad can easily be taken down…

Anything bad can easily be taken down and stays taken down.
I gave a medium review that also listed some bad aspects. Apparently the company complained about these (true!) details and thus it got taken down without question. I added more details (the other option would be to lie!), but it remains taken down.

Kununu the employer-image laudering machine

Kununu is an bad-employer-image washing machine. Kununu allowed my former employer to wash their image by deleting all critical reviews. Only left were the positive and ridiculously deceptive review(s) that paint a rose life in the company. Put zero trust in Kununu. I wish them a painful bankruptcy.
