Don’t use City Moving

Don’t use City Moving. They packed us out from Tampa on 16 June 2019. Terrible. Plates stacked 7 or 8 together. Items not tagged. I called city moving and told the so called moving captain I had about the sloppy work. When they delivered our household goods two days ago here in Hawaii we had over $6,000 in damages. Our Belgian Shrunk top was broken in half, our 65 inch TV had a screen broken in numerous places. Broken Villeroy and Bach dishes. Over a dozen picture frames broken. Many other glass items ruined broken in pieces. I am sorry I picked this company. Please take my advice and stay away from City Moving. I am a Retired Command Sergeant Major From the US Army. Our family moved all over the world numerous times with minimal damages. Trying to call and talk with someone is very difficult. You get voice mail sometimes. Sometimes you get a voice mail message that says the mail box is full. Many times City Moving did not return our calls. The only time they were proactive is when they wanted payment. I talked with a supervisor in claims today. There is not recourse to hold City Moving accountable for their sloppy and terrible work.

I meant to write my review of movers…

I meant to write my review of movers about a month ago, however, I have been so busy emptying boxes. We found this movers on Google and we decided to go with them. It was important to get a good mover because we have some an expensive stuff. I can't remember the young men's names anymore, but they were all very strong, professional, courteous, honest, quick, as they didn't stop, but they were careful not to break or damage anything, they wrapped everything, they had a sense of humor. They were eager to help or assist and the price for moving was very competitive and very reasonable. We would highly recommend them! And we would definitely use them again however we never ever want to move again!

Unacceptable company

Unacceptable company . Worst customer service. They lost or broke or damaged a lot of my belongings and no one has till date contacted me to apologise. All I got was a claim form in the mail. They charged a fortune for packing, but they never did the packing properly. Items were stolen and tags put on other items. Items came without being packed considering it was getting shipped from Washington to Hawaii. No one will ever contact you, you will have to chase them.

They did am awesome job.

I didn't want to hire just anyone so I compared a few companies to each other. After careful thinking and planning, I called CLDM and they came in no time and got the job done. The best part about it was I didn't have to pay much to have my stuff moved and they packed everything carefully. All of my belongings got to the destination safe and sound.

I hired City last month to help me move from Los Angeles to Honolulu.

They did a great job overall. One thing was I wasn’t able to reach them as easily as I would have liked before and during the move.

I
Mentioned this to them and they promised to do better and gave me a credit on the total cost.

Highly recommend for you’re long distance moves.

I Highly recommend city moving

I Highly recommend city moving. They were honest from the beginning about pricing. Where other moving companies gave me quotes that was less than what we had to move. Everything arrived on time. We unpacked and nothing is broken. Thank you City Moving

Moved from NC to Hawaii.
Reassured multiple times before booking that everything would be fine as long as we communicated. Our stuff was quoted $3196 and charged IN FULL instead of the 80/20.
Additional unknown charges of $650 were added without explanation upon reaching Hawaii and we were told if we didn’t pay they would put in storage and send us the bill. We were missing 2 boxes and our entertainment stand had a busted leg.
Andre, Sean, Jazmine and Rose are all the people we spoke with, and they never call back after they needed ‘to do more investigation.’ Beware, they take advantage of people and your stuff.

I would recommend this company for your long distance moving needs. needless to say the process is stressful enough without using a good company. This firm is one of the good ones in the LA area.

They moved my things to Philadelphia reasonably and on time last month.

The cost is fair and their team pays close attention to wrapping your things well to avoid damage. A friend referred me to City and they were right on target.

Honolulu to Seattle Move Was Disaster

Was moving from Honolulu to Seattle. Company sent a quote to me while having phone conversation with booking sales person based upon a fixed cubage which could not be exceeded without extra cubage charge. That all seemed fair. When the movers arrived they had another quote for the. same moving job I had been quoted which was about $1000 more than the one I had in hand from their sales person, and printed from the confirming email sent me by my sales person. With movers sitting around the crew boss called the LA office and talked to someone of authority who refused to honor the original quote I had been given. I was panicked because I had to be out of my condo apartment, and thus got talked in to paying about $700 more than their written quote with nothing more added? It was a bait and switch deal. Part of my original quote I accepted was that City movers would professionally pack the dishes, all wall hangings , furniture, and the sofa/sleeper. I used my homeowner insurance company to insure everything for replacement value. The next failure was that City Movers packed things very poorly. About 80% of my crystal and China was smashed in transit. Two large framed wall art pieces were literally broken and scraped to the point of no repair.. My expensive sofa/sleeper which cost about $5,000 was completely torn up down to frame on one end, and deemed to not be repairable by my insurance company. My insurance recovery from my insurance company totaled almost $7000 after my $500 deductible was applied.

City Movers has serious communication problems. They appear to run in crises management mode most of the time at their higher levels of management. Their operations plan is to get everything unloaded at their warehouse in LA and then plan trips using routes to optimize delivery. I notice that they have little regard for boxes that say "Fragile" or "This Side Up" when stacking boxes in trucks or warehouses. It appears that they have little understanding about packing fragile things with their teams in the field. The crowning event was when they would not unload anything at my destination for the move in Seattle without having a cashiers certified check handed the driver for the balance due, and not accepting credit cards at the destination point.

Their sales people seem friendly, but after the deal is made you have to deal with the tough guys who are all about changing the deal. READ your contract before you sign it. I highly suggest not using this company unless you have good insurance to cover your losses. The insurance offered by the company is only a few cents per pound and largely worthless. They try to sell you their extra insurance through them before your moving day. I have no experience with that as my insurance on the residence from which I moved covered my stuff in transit. If you use City Movers, make sure you have "Replacement Value" insurance. Plan on loses and claims.

I will just give a brief summary of my…

I will just give a brief summary of my experience with City Moving.

1 bedroom Apartment with about 119 individual items including boxes and furniture
Moved from Virginia to Hawaii
Cost: $6134.60 (calculated by size rather than weight)
The estimate was $$5,694.68

April 11: Asked for a quote and planned a move date in late May
May 17: Give a final move list before the deadline as asked but get no response. For this reason, when the movers came, I had to pay more for "extra items". I only received an apology from the company.
May 21: Comes a day early to pick up items. It is inconvenient as I have a day job.
August 1: Items arrive but three to four pieces of furniture are broken. The bed frame is missing screws so it cannot be assembled. I have to buy replacement screws and put it together myself despite it being a service provided by the moving company.
August 22: File claim for broken furniture
August 23: Receive confirmation for the claim
September 24: Email asking about the progress of the claim
October 18: Receive an email saying that sometimes the claim takes 45 days to process. (It has already been over 60 days).
October 23: I email the company telling them that it has already been over 45 days.
November 9: Still no response from the company

edit:
December 4: (posted this review on November 9): I finally get a return email from City Moving. They ask me to fill out a form
December 13: Submit my form to City Moving
December 20ish: Receive my reimbursement check in the mail

Summary: I strongly feel that I overpaid and the company is terrible at reimbursing me for my broken items.

Alternatives:
My father used Pasha and received his items quicker and paid less. I used Royal Hawaiin Movers to move my car and it was a much smoother process.

WORST MOVING COMPANY EVER!!!!

One of the most disorganized, rude, and inefficient companies I have ever come into contact with.
1. I was quoted $4,489.20, once my belongings got packed (by an entirely different company, which also happened to be their competitor, Hercules Moving), I was given the price tag of $7,138.00. This was after I updated my packing list to detail everything I owned. Do not believe their quotes!
2. They showed up 2 days before their given "pick up window" with no warning nor apology.
3. They quoted 4-7 weeks for delivery from New York to Hawaii. It is now been 8 weeks with still no response on when my stuff arrives. My stuff was waiting at the LA port for over 5 weeks, because they supposedly needed me to fill out a form to load it on the Matson Ship. This was never communicated to me by either my account manager (still have no idea what this person does) or the dispatch team. Instead I was berated by their staff explaining that it was my fault, not theirs.
4. The company is so large that the account manager has no idea how the rest of the company works or how to get ahold of them. Their phone numbers kept changing, with their explanation that they were changing phone companies. Sadly, when they have my things hostage- I would want to know how to contact them. Understand that City Moving is only a booking company, so they make promises that they often do not have the ability to make. This is very frustrating.
5. No customer service. They are rude, often only giving the phrase "that is not how things are done around here" rather than understanding I am a high paying customer that should be treated as such. When asked what I should do, my account manager said there is nothing he nor the company can do, but would recommend writing poor recommendations- that is the only way they will hear you. So here I am.

I Regret Choosing Them

I relocated from LA to SF for a job and since I was given a signing bonus to cover relocation expenses I decided to use professional movers to move all my stuff for me. I almost considered it ‘spoiling myself’ because I’m so used to doing things myself so I thought it would be take a huge stress and effort off my plate by hiring professionals.
I took a long time to decide between City Moving and another large, reputable moving company but I eventually settled on City because they were so persistent, gave me a competitive estimate, and even came to my place to do a walk-through and “lock-in” their estimated price.
On pickup day, they arrived on time but called me off and on throughout the day because they kept confusing me with another customer. Talk about disorganized! When they picked up the ended up charging me more than their estimate despite having “locked in” the quote with me with a walk-through. I began to protest so they lowered the cost to be more than quoted but only marginally more (about $100) so I just left it alone. They were pleasant to deal with during pickup but they peeled a piece of my paint off my wall when they took down my pictures.
In the paperwork at pickup, which I didn’t notice at the time, there’s a notation saying I might need to pay for a smaller rental truck to move my stuff into the city since SF streets aren’t roomy enough for the big semi-truck they use for long-distance moves. They didn’t tell me about this when they quoted me the price or when they picked up my stuff and I paid in full. They called me from the road to tell me that I would need to pay around $300 in cash to the driver for this and that it wasn’t a “might” situation - that this was the case for ANY move going to SF. Why didn’t they tell me earlier then?
When I argued about this with them they tried to negotiate me down to paying for half of the expense. After going back and forth for awhile, they finally waived the fee. However, the driver said he would be there the next morning and so I went to my new apartment early in the morning to wait for him and he didn’t show up for hours. When I called him he told me the rental truck gave his rental away the night before and the person didn’t return it so now they didn’t have a rental truck for him to take my stuff into the city. Could you not have called me to tell me this instead of having me come at 7AM and wait hours for you to arrive?
He ended up coming the next morning (so a full day late) and I watched and assessed damages. My dresser was slightly damaged with the lower panel falling down a little but Ikea is kinda junky. There was maybe one or two mason jars that broke but that could have been packaging issues on my part.
However, the unforgivable part was my artwork. I paid extra for them to package my artwork. When they picked up they took one of MY leftover boxes instead of their own and taped a number of my framed artwork pieces in a thinly in it, but assured me it was secure.
Flash forward to drop off and I’m informed that the foreman at the warehouse dropped my artwork and when they opened it up the frame was broken. I opened it and sure enough, my limited edition specially numbered print’s frame was broken with glass everywhere. The frame was broken on another framed poster. And the broken glass from the first artwork cut into the wood of another frame damaging a third one.
So, they packed them (clearly insecurely), they moved (and dropped it), and broke them. I thought about filling out a claim but knowing I didn’t get extra insurance and the minimal included insurance was priced on weight and these were just pieces of artwork I knew it wouldn’t amount to much.
I had already argued with them before I didn’t have any energy left for it all, but I absolutely regret choosing City Moving over the other company. Never again!

Please beware - they have mutiple websites to evade bad reviews

It has now officially been one year with no resolution for our lost and damaged items. In 2017 we moved the items of a two bedroom apartment from Los Angeles to Oahu for a cost of $7500 for 1067 cu feet. For this price our belonings arrived late, with items damaged (e.g.an antique table was damaged and reglued prior to delivery, this was not dsiclosed to us) and several expensive items missing. In total we incurred a loss of $1800. We went through the official process for claims only to be told three months later that they had changed the process and we needed to start fresh, which we did. We were hoping to have achieved some resolution and have given this company as much time as possible to make good on their dereliction. They have not, so I warn you to stay away and consider alternatives. Hiring a 40' container (e.g. Matson) may seem like more hassle but is cheaper and offers you much more storage. There are several other movers out there, so please look to Yelp and other sites and do your homework.

CITY MOVERS ARE THIEVES!!

Used city moving to move my stuff from Hawaii to Las Vegas, once our boxes have arrived we've noticed that ALL our boxes were BADLY DAMAGED even the ones that said fragile. More than half of our furniture was damaged. One of our larger boxes was missing and we realized they put our things in that box into a smaller box (that wasn't even our box) and took out over $800 of brand new items! Everything brand new only was stolen. We filed a claim and they said sorry they're not responsible that our stuff was "lost" which our stuff was not lost at all, someone opened our personal box and took things out!! We are seriously gonna take this to next level because this is not RIGHT AT ALL! The company is a bunch of thieves and supports thieves as their employees. Police reports are being made. If something like this has happened to you with this company, please contact me and let's work on making this company right because they don't have the right procedures for stolen customer property!!! If you want your furniture damaged and all your BRAND NEW STUFF STOLEN without getting any money back, I highly suggest city moving. Worst moving company I've ever used and no respect at all to help me!! What has 2018 come too.

Movers arrived and did not know where I …

Movers arrived and did not know where I was moving to. Also, they did not have any allen keys to dismantle my furniture. They informed me that they were not told about any dismantling. My friend had to buy a set of keys and dismantled the furniture himself. I then had to badger them into working again as my friend had a delivery due. They were sitting in the van . Then my frien after dismantling the bed for them said they were thinking of leaving my bed there. I labelled an item fragile and wrapped it in bubble wrap, but my 50.00 light shade was cracked. Do not use this company

Definitely avoid this company

Definitely avoid this company. Hire a major mover instead, such as North American, Atlas, United, Mayflower, Bekins, etc. They're worth the extra expense. Our international move from California was a disaster due to the incompetence of City Moving. Our goods arrived three weeks after the promised date. Some boxes were split and some items were missing. City Moving would not call back whenever we called to ask for the delivery date. We finally sent complaints to the president of the company and to the Better Business Bureau. After that, the goods arrived. We're wondering whether this is even a legitimate business.

Stay away from this company!!!

The company's commitment to accountability is a total joke. There has not been a consistent person from the beginning of this move...and I've still not received anything. They promised to arrange the entire move; there is no one to answer questions, they subcontracted out my vehicle delivery and then the subcontractor subcontracted out. There are a bunch of fees that aren't disclosed when arranging the move. The company my vehicle is with is saying they haven't received payment and are essentially holding my belongings hostage. Customer service is a joke, they either don't return phone calls or the line is conveniently disconnected. The vehicle that would take 2 weeks to deliver has now taken 10 with no date of delivery in sight. No answers for weeks but whenever info is needed from me it's supposed to be instantaneous.
