Misleading pricing and unfair cancelation terms
We originally booked a stay at Hof van Saksen for August 2025, for which we paid €2,800. Unfortunately, due to a flight cancellation by Lufthansa, we are no longer able to travel on the planned dates.
We contacted the resort by phone to explore our options. A representative informed us that we could either cancel the booking for a 20% cancellation fee or reschedule to a later date. We asked to move our reservation to a similar period in August 2026, and were told the new price would be €4,200 — significantly higher than the original booking. The representative claimed that this was the current pricing and encouraged us to check online.
We agreed to reschedule under this assumption. However, after checking the official Hof van Saksen website ourselves, we found that the price for similar accommodation and dates in August 2026 was still around €2,800, not €4,200.
We immediately called the resort back to report the discrepancy. Unfortunately, we were told it was “our problem” for agreeing to the new price over the phone, and that if we now wished to cancel, we would have to pay 20% of the new higher price (€4,200) instead of 20% of the original amount. This is despite the fact that we contacted them just minutes after confirming the change, once we realized the actual pricing online.
We also requested to speak with a supervisor, but the representative rudely refused and hung up the phone.
We believe this conduct is unfair and misleading. As customers, we trusted the information provided by the service representative, which turned out to be inaccurate. There was no transparency or flexibility, and no reasonable opportunity to cancel or reconsider after realizing the mistake.
