Larch Cottage Nurseries is an independent family business established in 1985. Committed to horticultural excellence and offering what we hope is a unique and inspirational experience to those who visit, we strive continually to be the best we can. Today, horticulturalists travel from all over the world to explore our secret garden and to discover the vast selection of plants, the majority of which are propagated on-site. We specialise in rare and unusual shrubs, perennials, and climbers, Japanese acers, old fashioned roses, and slow growing and dwarf conifers. For many of these varieties we are the country’s only suppliers as listed in the RHS Bible, The Plantfinder. Visitors can peruse the nurseries at a leisurely pace and choose gifts before taking refreshments in La Casa Verde Restaurant. With a terrace overlooking the gardens and the Pennines beyond, the restaurant is popular with both locals and visitors. A light Mediterranean style menu is served using only the freshest of ingredients with organic seasonal vegetables, fruit and salad leaves coming straight from the organic kitchen garden. All other produce is sourced locally where possible, with everything made on site from first principles. The Red Barn gallery hosts a stunning collection of artworks from ceramics, paintings, prints, glassware, sculptures, rugs and a huge selection of bespoke handcrafted jewellery. Whilst the Lower Red Barn shop is the perfect place to find unique, unusual and inspiring gifts.

Worst customer service I have ever received.
WARNING to those buying trees from Larch Cottage Nurseries…
I ordered a 3L AP deshojo on 08/04/2022 from Larch cottage nurseries for the total sum of £50.99 (inc P+P)
The tree arrived two days later and upon opening I had noticed the tree was bent over in the box and several buds from the mid section had been knocked off - likely in transport. The lowest branch was also snapped and hanging on by a thread.
The tree was yet to push new growth at this point however, over the past 10 days: New growth that emerges is wilted, starts turning crispy and then blackens. It is dying top down.
I mentioned I work as a professional gardener and that the tree clearly has a problem. Her response on the phone? She said ‘everyone says they are a professional gardener’… I mentioned I have been working as a gardener for many years with great horticulture knowledge and have been growing Acer trees for +10 years. I have close to 30 Acer varieties currently.
She requested I return the tree to them for a refund however, this would not cover my expenses for buying a new cardboard box and posting. (£20/25 in expenses to post back that I would not recuperate).
I mentioned that I have never had this issue or response from any other nurseries that I have used for my personal self, or my clients. The lady on the phone then said ‘Oh, so you do this a lot then?’.
Unacceptable customer service and darned rude in my opinion. As a gardener for 18 different properties weekly, I buy many plants on a near weekly basis.
I have contacted trading standards as I am that unhappy with the customer service and product I had received.
