Chris Barry Waste of space!

Chris Barry, a very horrible human being!
Why do you sound so unkind to other human beings in your response. I thought everyone who works for Lee Abbey is supposed to be king since you claim to Christians!

You made my little girl cry with your nasty email! Why behave like an an untamed wild wild animal!

This is NOT a hotel... not sure why it shows up as such!!

Stayed at this place for 2 nights... well technically I am still here since we are leaving in about 3 hours. I am not normally one to complain, but this time around I genuinely feel it is deserved. First of all, this is NOT a hotel! It is a student hostel. Not sure why Booking.com posted it as a hotel. Secondly, they put you in a basement room which has very limited ventilation and does not even have a fan. The beds are super flimsy with bad mattresses, and it is honestly very hard to get any semblance of a comfortable stay. And if you can get over all that, there is plenty of noise from your upstairs neighbors or from people in the garden who step outside to take phone calls (remember, nonfans in the rooms so one has no choice but to keep the windows open!) You are expected to clean your own room since there is no housekeeping. All this would be okay if one was paying like $50 a night, but certainly not acceptable at $200 a night! Basically I have had more comfortable stays at Motel 6 for less than 20 percent of the cost! Probably one of my worst stays anywhere.

Warning!

Warning! This is not a hotel, it is a dormitory, and not a good one at that, as the rooms are sparsely appointed. It is falsely advertised as a hotel. When we arrived, we were told there was no en-suite and we would have to occupy a room with a common shared bath down the hall. Of course, this was not what we reserved. After much conversation, the receptionist finally provided a dorm room with twin beds and an attached bathroom. We stayed for one night as we needed time to find another place to stay. We were extremely disappointed that booking.com would allow such false advertising. We are waiting for a full refund and have the hassle of going through booking.com for this refund as the dormitory would not handle this for us

Reply from Lee Abbey London

Good morning Sam, Good to hear from you. We spoke on the phone on Saturday night so really this is just sharing our conversation with others. We are emphatically not a hotel, we are a student hostel which welcomes tourist guests during the summer (and other holiday times).
We are tagged on Booking.com as a hostel not a hotel. We are also priced as a hostel and not a hotel. We do not have 24/7 concierge etc, nor the most modern of rooms, but we are blessed have a team of very kind staff/volunteers, a happy community, quaint and grand public rooms and great food (at least that is what our guests tell us on the reviews on Booking.com).
I am not aware of any advertising that claims we are a hotel, although I accept that Booking.com (who control the content) could perhaps make this clearer. Fortunately many guests who have reviewed us on Booking.com add this information - feel free to search through the reviews on their site.
The mistake we did make on your arrival was that we could not find your reservation. My colleague on the desk that Saturday (who is a volunteer) called me and we were able to retrieve your booking and showed you to your twin en-suite room. Unfortunately you decided that we were not for you, and wanted to leave immediately.
On reflection and considering my advice where I explained that you would be unlikely to find somewhere else late on a Saturday evening in Kensington (certainly not anywhere near this price), you accepted this advice and stayed the night.
My colleagues on Sunday morning told me that you checked out and sought a refund. As I explained to you on the phone on Saturday, you made your booking and paid your money to Booking.com and not to us. We have received nothing from them (they would normally pay us in a week or two unless you contact them with a problem).
To be honest I am not really sure what we did wrong apart from we could not find your booking - which was resolved quite quickly. You decided we are not the place for you, and when Booking.com contact me to ask if I will accept their non-payment, I will probably agree (perhaps after subtracting the first night). We therefore lose the money despite trying to resolve your dissatisfaction.
We bless you and wish you well and hope that you found something more suitable to your requirements.
Best regards,
James Fulford - Director Lee Abbey London.

This was a nice quiet place to stay and…

This was a nice quiet place to stay and the breakfast was very good too. It would have been improved by provision of a towel in the room - or failing that for the need to bring your own towel to be made clear when I booked - and by someone being available on reception on the Sunday morning of my 1-night stay.

Lee Abbey is an amazing community

Lee Abbey is an amazing community! I’ve told family and friends that since moving into Lee Abbey a week ago, I feel as though I have lived a month’s worth of life in just seven days! Being able to get to know the community members and residents is such a life-giving blessing. In community, we work as a team to serve Lee Abbey, and being able to do this alongside warm, welcoming and like-minded young adults is a constant encouragement. At Lee Abbey there is time to slow down and think, time to work, time to enjoy lunch in the garden and time to worship together… would highly recommend for both new residents and community members! As with all things in life, the more one gives of themselves to an experience, the more one is to gain! :)
