I love the whole setup

I love the whole setup: I can choose topics, I can choose my own schedule, and I especially enjoy having teachers who are located all over the world, with their own stories.

New French Student Loves Lingoda!

I am brand new to French. Lingoda is a very practical and thorough way to learn French without enrolling in a college course. I am pleasantly surprised about the high quality of the professional instruction from established French teachers. And, the coursework, platform and app are very high quality. I LOVE that I meet so many native speaking teachers…

I LOVE that I meet so many teachers from around the world. I love learning so much and feeling like I am progressing. I love how many hours are available. I love the progression of the material and feel like it is building my grammar knowledge. Lingoda helps me build confidence to speak. Sometimes I wish there was more use of the conjugations and practicing past tenses and new tenses we learn as I am still timid in using all the options. Lingoda is amazing and I recommend it to anyone who asks!

I can't believe how much I've learned…

I can't believe how much I've learned in the year I've been taking French with Lingoda, and how easy and fun it's been. Very small classes with live professors who are excellent, and their method makes learning the language painless. Very reasonable price too. I will continue with Lingoda.

Credit card data stored without consent and charged in inactive account

I used my credit card to pay for my au pair’s first month as a one-time gesture. Without my consent, they saved my billing information and charged me for a second month automatically—even though the account hasn't been used at all because the au pair didn’t like the platform .
I want to emphasize that I attempted to remove my card information from their system immediately after the first payment, but the platform’s interface did not allow me to do so, effectively holding my financial data hostage to force an automatic renewal. I never gave my consent for my data to be stored for future billing.

The customer service is intentionally designed to prevent you from getting your money back
If you type the word "refund" in their support chat, the system ignores you and refuses to connect you to an agent. I had to restart the chat and hide my true intent just to get someone to talk to me.
Once I finally got an agent, they wasted my time for over half an hour with endless, repetitive questions, only to eventually deny the refund even the credits have not been used.
Avoid Lingoda at all costs. Their support is a trap designed to exhaust you until you give up.

The subscription was created by another person using your payment card. For this reason, we were unable to make any changes or share account details until we received confirmation from the account owner. This is necessary to protect privacy and comply with data protection regulations.

As soon as we received the required confirmation, we proceeded to resolve the matter and cancelled the subscription. We also noted that some credits remained unused, so we have extended your access by an additional three months to allow you to use them.

Please note that payment methods are securely stored and used for future renewals, as is standard practice for subscription services. The course that was purchased is based on a monthly subscription plan that renews every 28 days - it was not a one-time purchase. We apologize if this was not clear.

To remove a payment method, the subscription must first be cancelled. After that, it can be removed in the billing section. If the subscription is still active, you may add a new payment method and then remove the existing one.

Once again, please accept our sincere apologies for your experience, and we hope that you accept the solution we have implemented.

I'm pleased with Lingoda. Their lessons are well-structured, their on-line reviews help to build language strength and the vast majority of their on-line teachers are pretty good. I cancelled my recurring charge

I cancelled my recurring charge, they charged me that same month and then when I reached out to them wouldn’t refund it but said they’d cancel any future payments. They also said I could use my credits but wouldn’t give me a refund on the last payment

We’re sorry to hear about your billing situation and your refund request. We understand how disappointing this can be, especially if you reached out shortly after the subscription had already renewed.

Our learning plans are monthly subscriptions that renew automatically every 28 days unless cancelled beforehand. Once a charge has already been processed, it is unfortunately no longer possible to cancel that specific payment or reverse the renewal. In such cases, the cancellation will apply to future billing cycles only. We regret if this timing was not clear or caused confusion.

While all class credits have a validity of one year from the moment they are added to the account, an active subscription is necessary to use them to attend classes.

Please note that information about the recurring nature of the subscription is communicated on our pricing page, during checkout, within our Terms and Conditions (which are accepted at the time of purchase), and within the account under the subscription section. A payment confirmation email is also sent after each transaction, including the next billing date.

The subscription can be cancelled at any time directly through the account by clicking on Account Settings and then on Subscriptions.

Regarding your refund request, we understand your concern. However, refunds are only possible within the 14-day withdrawal period from the initial registration, as agreed upon during purchase. As subscription renewals fall outside of this period, we are unfortunately unable to process a refund in such cases.

I like Lingoda and most of the teachers…

I like Lingoda and most of the teachers are outstanding. After taking a lot of courses, you can sort out who the outstanding instructors are. I would like it if Lingoda would allow students to get a credit refunded if the original teacher drops the class.

too pronounced a discrepancy between the students' knowledge levels

The teachers are good, can't really say anything negative. But it has already happened to me couple of times, that the level of students is very different. I think, it would be nice, if there was some kind of a test to determine the level first, before you book a course. In my opinion, if I book a class a1.1, I can barely talk. And it is quite surprising, that there are people in the same class with me, who can freely speak to a teacher...

It can definitely be intimidating or even a bit discouraging when you are just starting at level A1.1 and find yourself alongside students who seem much more advanced. There are a few reasons why this happens: sometimes students speak well but lack grammar, or they are repeating a level for extra practice.

We actually do offer a free placement test on our website to help students find their right starting point. We highly encourage everyone to take it to ensure they aren't in a class that is too easy or too hard.
Also, please don't feel discouraged. At the A1.1 level, it is perfectly normal to "barely talk." You are building the foundation. Our teachers are trained to manage these differences and ensure that you get the specific support and speaking time you need, regardless of how much others are saying.

We will share your feedback with our academic team to see how we can better manage student placements and ensure the learning environment feels balanced for everyone.

Would recommend the Course

The classes are good. The flexibility and teachers seem to be very well vetted. I would recommend Lingoda. That said, I took this class as a corporate student (classes paid for my company) but I had searched for the Deutschkurs and solicited the invoice myself. There is a disconnect around the time between invoice receipt and payment. Support staff seemed annoyed/disinterested with my questions and went unanswered or not answered in time. It had me feel a type of way. This is just feedback from the customer side and would probably help improve your customer service.
