I came across Lydia McCarthy-Keen’s advert while doom-scrolling social media, and I’m so pleased I did. I’d been planning to propose to my partner, Kirsty, for a while and I knew I wanted something special that truly reflected her. I was nervous because I had no idea what kind of ring I wanted, only that it had to be custom, meaningful, and unique to us.
From the very beginning, Lydia made the whole process feel personal and intentional. One of her first questions was, “Why a custom ring?” I told her it would be easy to buy a ring, but we’re not a couple who does things the easy or typical way. This started the conversation and first step of this incredible journey.
Through design appointments and thoughtful questions, ranging from fashion preferences and hand shape to practical day-to-day lifestyle, Lydia built a full picture of who my partner is. She took the time to understand not only what I envisioned but also what would suit Kirsty perfectly in both style and functionality.
The final design was incredible! Kirsty has blue eyes and I wanted a blue gem to be the focal point of the ring. Lydia found the perfect diamond to set the ring off perfectly!
Surrounding gems represent family, something my partner and I hold dear. Kirsty loves big cats so having the gems held by tiger claws and paw print engravings was another personal and meaningful touch. It’s more than a ring; it’s a story!
Lydia kept me informed with regular updates and even created a 3D-printed mock-up of the ring, which helped me visualise it and feel even more confident in the process. I’m a practically minded person and the 3D print was helpful for me to see and feel what the ring would be like.
As someone with no background in jewellery, I found the early stages very daunting, but Lydia put me completely at ease. Her words—“I’ve got this”—really stuck with me. And she absolutely did.

I wanted to propose…in a hot air balloon… in Morocco… over the Atlas Mountains… and bought a simple but beautiful placeholder ring just in case I dropped it!
But I wanted my fiancée to design a ring she would love wearing. That’s where Lydia was incredible. Lydia knows diamonds, and design but her process for discovering the perfect shapes, finish and flourishes… and her skill at matching personality and style was incredible to experience. My fiancée was guided ever so gracefully and carefully through a range of glamorous, sparkly options… until the shape, size and feel were deliciously selected.
The surprises along the way were highly personalised. And it was fun. For me it was not just about a remarkable ring - I knew that would be right - but more about the memorable experience and how the ring was created. Lydia is the consummate professional.

What an incredible experience and beautiful unique ring. From day one Lydia completely held me in our experience of designing my ring. From helping me through the actual design to supporting me in my wobbles, and then the actual admin and managing of the process and our expectations was absolutely fantastic. Lydia doesn’t just design an engagement ring, she works with you to design ‘your’ engagement ring, a ring design you didn’t even know you wanted.

I’m a person who doesn’t like surprises, choosing to take Mike around the jeweller’s windows pointing out the styles I liked, so he could make the final decision. He chose a surprise that bowled me over, a surprise so magical, the memories will last forever. A couples engagement ring design experience, including picking our diamond that takes centre stage in our ring.

Working with Lydia was fantastic, you are not ‘just another couple’, she really gets to know you both so she can work with you to design a ring that symbolises who you are as a couple. You are part of the design and decision making process from start to finish. Believe Lydia when she says “trust the process”.

My boyfriend designed my ring through Lydia. The design is just amazing and so unique to all the general rings I see. It is engraved and personalised and her in-depth quiz about me helped Chris to pick the most perfect ring. I have been given clear cleaning and protection advice which has been really helpful. I hope to be back soon, this time being involved, to help design a matching wedding band to fit into it.

I think the best feeling to summarise my experience with Lydia is gratitude. Not only for creating the perfect engagement ring for my Fiancé, but also for giving me the confidence throughout the entire process that this was the right decision.

I started the process with very little understanding of diamonds or engagement rings. And as opposed to a sales pitch for a particular ring, I had the opportunity to create a bespoke ring, that is so truly sentimental, whist understanding the options available to me and having someone who was so open to all my questions through the entire process.

As much as my experience of this process was fantastic, and the debrief with my fiancé of all the secret calls and diamond picking were brilliant, ultimately, the ring is worth every penny and I would not hesitate recommending Lydia should anyone ask.

Wow! So a few months back I was lost. I had no idea how to choose an engagement ring and now I have put a ring on my fiancés finger that represents us, captures our personalities and has so much more meaning than any off the shelf piece could ever have!

Lydia and the whole experience was amazing from start to finish. She held my hand throughout the process, came up with some amazing ideas based around both my taste and the information and photos I gave about my partner. She also stood firm when she needed to and I mean that as a massive compliment because without that there’s no way the result would have been so perfect.

The experience and knowledge of Lydia to create such beautiful and individual rings for each client is incredible. She really puts so much thought into what each client would want and in our case creating a ring that was more perfect than I could ever have imagined!

The ring is made up of elements that really represent me including: leaf like diamonds (as I love long walks in the woods and wearing clothing with natural patterns), surrounding the most dazzling blue sapphire which feels quite unique in its colour (sapphire is my birth stone and also reminds me of the beautiful sea of Croatia where we got engaged), all encased in a platinum ring (it needed to be hard-wearing due to my work).

I wouldn't of been able to describe to you what my perfect ring would have looked like and I didn't even know a service like this existed. But to know my partner was able to design a ring which is unique to me, makes it even more special and meanful and I am looking forward to wearing my beautiful ring forever!
