Very disappointing experience with Locauto.

I booked and paid for a Volkswagen Polo or similar with automatic transmission through Booking.com. At pickup, I was told that no automatic car was available and the only option was a manual Fiat Panda/Pandina, so I had to accept a vehicle that did not match an important part of my confirmed reservation.

The experience became worse after returning the car. Locauto claimed that the mechanical door lock could not be opened with the key and demanded €175 (€105 damage + €70 management fee).

During the rental, I had no accident, impact or attempted break-in. I used the remote locking system and never had any reason to use the mechanical lock. Most importantly, the mechanical lock was not tested or demonstrated to me at pickup, so I have no way of knowing whether it was functioning when the car was handed over to me.

I have formally disputed the charge and asked Locauto to provide evidence that the mechanical lock was checked and working before my rental.

Receiving a manual car despite paying for an automatic was already disappointing. Being subsequently charged for a mechanical issue that was never checked with me at pickup made the overall experience unacceptable.

I would not rent from Locauto again based on this experience.

It was a good experience overall, but I was wrongly charged to return the car. I was in the parking to return on time, but I need to wait in line after other customers. Leonardo from Locauto, who was very kind promised to fix the issue to credit the value back to my card, but so far, no confirmation on that.

Excellent car and the best service.

Pick up and drop off was quick easy and pleasant. Both Rome and Firenze personnel were helpful, kind and understanding seeing we had two small children. Highly recommend failure.

I picked up a car from Rome Termini. I’ll be honest I always look through reviews prior to booking and I was concerned at other customers experiences. However i needn’t have worried. I saw two members of staff - the first on arrival - Beatrice who completed everything , no hard sell, talked to us about our destination and she was lovely - excellent English and a kind lady. I knew exactly what I was paying for. Then another person showed us around the car and helped navigate Rome. He was so thorough - I’ve never been shown where the car documents are or where the spare tyre is. Handed over the car at the end of the trip - no hidden extras , no charges

Great experience! Would definitely rent from Locauto again. After having a bad experience in the past renting in Italy, Locauto was seamless. The car was in great condition and a new model. Highly recommend.

I had a great experience with Locauto. The pickup at Termini was quick and hassle-free, and returning the car at Fiumicino Airport (FCO) was just as easy. The staff was friendly and professional, and the car was in excellent condition. Everything went exactly as expected. I would definitely rent from Locauto again!
