Disappointed at lack of communication
Very disappointed we have stayed at hotel few times and have booked for September this year for another week
We recently had a death in family and very upset so decided that we would maybe upgrade to the unique package we understand the hotels does but despite lots of emails back and forward saying it was to early to book it and more recently was told to complete online check in ! Which I have tried but doesn’t seem to go through all we wanted was to see if it was available and a price but sadly will have to give up as due to travel shortly
Probably the worst reception team in…
Probably the worst reception team in history of all hotels I’ve been in all my life and this one is disgraceful to say it’s a 5star hotel and the reception team might not even shouldn’t have even been there. That’s all I’ve got to say about this hotel.
I normally don’t write reviews
I normally don’t write reviews, but after my experience at this resort I feel obligated to share what happened so others are aware.
During my stay, I experienced a very serious safety incident where I believe I was drugged at one of the bars on the property. The symptoms came on suddenly and were severe. I was dizzy, disoriented, sweating excessively, and unable to walk normally as i collapsed onto the floor twice. The resort was made aware of the situation immediately.
What has been most alarming is the complete lack of concern and follow-up from management afterward. No one checked on my condition, no one followed up to see if I was safe, and no one communicated whether any investigation or action would be taken regarding the incident.
Since returning home, I have emailed and called the resort multiple times about what happened and have still received no meaningful response. The only reply I received asked what time the incident occurred, even though the exact timeframe had already been clearly provided multiple times, including in the original email I sent days earlier. For a situation involving guest safety, this type of response felt dismissive and deeply concerning.
Even more disappointing is that the resort has not addressed the issue of a refund or offered any form of resolution after such a serious incident occurred on their property. The lack of accountability and urgency from management has only made the situation worse.
For a resort that welcomes guests from around the world, safety and responsible management should be a top priority. Unfortunately, the way this situation was handled made it feel as though guest safety and wellbeing were not taken seriously.
I left this trip extremely disappointed and honestly traumatized by the experience. Based on both the incident itself and the way it was handled afterward, I would strongly caution others before choosing to stay here.
For continued safety reasons, I am choosing not to publicly post my name with this review. However, the resort is fully aware of who I am and the incident that occurred.
I stayed at the Lopeson Costa Bavaro in…
I stayed at the Lopeson Costa Bavaro in the Dominican Republic. Here's a rundown:
Appearance, Decor, and Room: I am writing from a disabilities perspective that rooms were spacious, able to fit a wheelchair through doors, rooms, and all restaurants. Wheelchair accessible everywhere, elevators, wheelchair can be rented from the pharmacy. Ample balcony with sofa and chairs. I had a room with two queen sized beds and plenty of space. Well ventilated, great AC, beautiful view. Most of the effort is placed into keeping the grounds neat, organized, dry during wet season. Extremely clean and well kept. Feels luxurious.
Staff: Very patchy and please read all the way through. Some staff are amazing and I'll name them here: Luis Santana at adult reception is welcoming, bilingual, helpful in every way; all bell hops are efficient and friendly. Mayra Montero at Bar Timon (and general Bar Timon staff) are the kindest and friendliest of all the bars; Ashley Mejia went out of her way to be kind to me when a shop was closed and I needed help; Lonary Lebron and Cristof at Goldfish restaurant and generally all staff here all helpful; Jose Montilla and ESPECIALLY Adrian at the ice cream truck worked nonstop and should be tipped more. Staff at La Boheme and Gondola were really friendly. Yolo does their best and are nice. Cleaning staff stellar and so are staff at the buffets. Outdoor/activities staff keep it lively and upbeat and I noticed they worked by the pools and at evening shows (hard workers). Other than this, I found the staff to be really rude, dismissive, not even making eye contact, some even took breaks when they saw customers coming, and pretty racist. The Valley staff was the worst (not counting Karoake staff who were great). I had to wait one hour for my meal while white families walked in and got their food immediately, no exaggeration. When some families (all who had some melanin in their skin) asked about their delayed meals they were either given death stares or yelled at. Same goes for lobby bar (so bad) and most other bars and restaurants. Staff seemed detached so it made many of my bar and restaurant interactions feel almost hostile. I felt badly for staff that they did not get tipped well and probably received little pay but, still, for the customer it felt horrible.
The food: gross. The BEST food available at the hotel was at Goldfish, lunch buffet. This actually served Dominican food with white rice, goat, pig knuckle, stewed chicken, choices of grilled and slow cooked meats and fish, lovely paella, and many savory meals. The buffet at Atlantico tried really hard to offer many selections around the world and they made Christmas into a winter wonderland. The dessert and food spread is pleasing to the eye. Other than this, I found the food to be tough, bland, big on presentation and low in quality. I think it's probably difficult to follow through on quality when cooking for so many people.
Activities: This place has so much potential but the nighttime entertainment is sleepy. Kudos to the saxophonist but maybe they can switch it up. Karaoke was fun. There were a few evening performances but they all seemed to start at 10 pm and weren't anything that I found interesting. My suggestion is to amp up the nighttime offerings and to think about teens as well. I have no idea why families pay for an all inclusive only to have to pay additionally for bowling and the arcade. Make it free. That's a true all inclusive.
Weather: Mother nature was kind. The sun was inviting, warm, beach was clean, and plenty of beach chairs. No one tells you ahead of time to arrive before 7 am to place a towel on the chair to reserve your spot but I will.
Unique experience: I didn't go for the Unique experience and glad I didn't. Insofar as I can see, you get some orange towels, access to one small pool and one bar. You can decide if you'd like to pay for this.
Conclusion: If you are white, you will have your every whim catered to, even if you don't tip. If you are a person of color, prepare to be ignored pretty often, except by select staff who are good human beings. I tipped every single time I was served and still had bad service in most places. I think this place is really beautiful, peaceful, quiet, lovely daytime activities, accessible for the disabled, large rooms and manicured grounds but really suffers in terms of restaurant food quality and about a third of the staff seem angry or numb. This may be solved by compensating them better or being creative about rewards and perks. * Before you approach a staff member, ask yourself if you are projecting a positive attitude, are you tipping, are you kind, are showing appreciation and general good manners? For me, I did all of the above and it was still a mixed bag.
So lovely to be back at Lopesan Costa Meloneras
We have been coming to the Lopesan Costa Meloneras for 17 years — often multiple times each year — and it just keeps getting better and better. This year alone we’ve visited four times, and every stay reminds us why this resort is so special.
A huge thank you to Loly, Mónica, and Bryan at Bar Arenal, who are a tremendous credit to the hotel. They always deliver exceptional service with warmth and efficiency, running the bar like a well-oiled machine while making every guest feel genuinely welcome.
We also want to express our gratitude to Loly and Carmen from the Central Bar for their care and kindness towards the hotel cats. They look after them so diligently, and it’s wonderful to see such compassion. The cats are part of what makes this resort unique — and importantly, they help keep any vermin at bay, which benefits everyone.
We can’t wait to return again soon. Thank you to the whole Lopesan Costa Meloneras team for maintaining such high standards year after year.
Excellent customer experience
My reason for adding Lopesan is to praise two members of their reservations team for how they dealt with a booking I have recently amended with an upgrade at one of their Gran Canaria hotels. The 2 ladies that helped me were Victoria and Paola, unfortunately I don’t know their surnames or where they work physically but it is in the reservations team obviously. They were polite and courteous throughout dealing with my request and query of the cost. They followed up by returning my call to confirm a resolution. It’s not often at all these days that customers can rely on good quality customer service that delivers. Lopesan have my vote always great offerings backed up with conscientious employees.
The phone number I rang is 0034 928 40 24 18.
This is not in any way a 5 star hotel.
This is not in any way, shape or form a five star hotel. We arrived around midnight, and found the outdoor reception desk closed and dark. Other hotels that the transfer coach had stopped at were open and people were having their luggage taken and were shown to the check in. The coach driver just said go up there and pointed to a pitch black path with no lighting whatsoever. We eventually found our way to the reception. The place was very dark and dismal. When we asked why we were not met outside as all the others were, we were told that we were too late!!! We had no influence on our flight and transfer so how on earth could they say that? A five star hotel is open 24 hours. We were checked in and taken to our room by a helpful check in person, only to find that it was the wrong type of room and not as booked. We were taken back down to reception through a dark maze of corridors and had to wait until a lady arrived. She was not very helpful and seemed put out that she had to be called. She took us to another room, turned on her heel and left! Some welcome! The room was correct but it had not been prepared. There was nothing to drink and no information whatsoever. As we had our last drink on the plane we were gagging to say the least. In Gran Canaria the tap water is not drinkable. We had to leave the hotel and find a bar/restaurant that was still open. The hotel is dark every where, and is full of dangerous trip hazards. When we complained, we were told that the darkness was the "theme" of the hotel. Health and safety and legal obligations did not count!!!! All this was discussed with Esme the Jet 2 rep. She did her best for us but could only offer to change the hotel under the basis of extra charges. As this would mean losing a day of the holiday and having to pay, we opted to stay where we were. On the departure day our pick up time was ten minutes to eight in the evening. We got a call from the hotel demanding to know why we hadn't left our room at 12 noon. We have no document or hotel instruction to do that whatsoever so how would we know? They had the cheek to demand extra payment for the afternoon occupancy. I refused and they capitulated. There was no Jet 2 instruction in their pickup text and no instruction anywhere in the hotel. 5 star? What a joke. Never again!
Slave Labour.
The staff are helpful and friendly. It’s a pity that they don’t get paid enough to live with dignity.
Shame on Lopesan Hotel Group, without such hard working staff nobody would come and stay at their hotels.
We are 20 people who ordered vacation…
We are 20 people who ordered vacation at this hotel, and when we eat at the restaurant we are not allowed to sit together and move some table so we can sit and Talk, they want us to pay 80 € if we want to sit together. Stupid they allow 20 people to come when its not possible to sit together, Without ekstra pay.
Lopesan Faro is a great hotel
Lopesan Faro is a great hotel! The rooms are modern and very comfortable. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing.
Breakfast is excellent—lots of options, including a gluten-free selection. You can have table service or choose from the buffet. The coffee and a glass of bubbles in the morning are a nice touch!
The staff are super friendly and always helpful. The pool area is amazing, and the sun loungers are really comfortable.
A perfect place to stay in Maspalomas! Highly recommend!
The Lopesan chain in Melonaras
This review may be a bit disjointed as it is about both the hotel we stayed at (The Lopesan Costa Melonaras) and the sister hotels in the same resort (the Lopesan Villa Conde and the Lopesan Baobab).
First the LCM - our third time here, and the place is still great - however, a couple of points on changes they have made since our last visit.
1. The introduction of Unique Guests seems a bit devisive - as a 5 star why seperate your guests into sub-layers - not good.
2. Removal of some of the entertainment facilities (2 golf based ones) - a backward step - they were good fun.
3. The buffet set up for breakfast and evening meal - oh boy, who thought that corridor of hell was a good idea? I understand you have to process a lot of people in a short period, but that chaos is just an accident waiting to happen - too many people in too small space.
However, as always - the staff throughout the hotel were superb. Maybe I didn't suffer the rudness others have because I do my best to at least speak a few phrases in Spanish - I am in their country after all. I have always found the people who complain about staff rudeness in other countries are those who don't make any effort, but expect them to all speak perfect English. How rude :-)
Now on to the LVC We only went there on one evening (just to get away from the Buffet at the LCM) and the young man called Omar in the reception area couldn't have been more helpful. Apparently he was a very new employee (Sept 24) but he went the extra mile to sort us out as we were lost on where to go.
Now to the Baobab - This place isn't really to our taste in the hotel decor (it is a bit niche in our view) but again, just to get away from the buffet in LCM we used the Baobab buffet for 11 of our 14 nights. The staff are superb in the restaurant. Special mention has to go to Frencesco, Victor and Sebastian.
Francesco (who is very proud he is Italian :-) ) greeted us each time like long lost friends, even when busy. A great way to start the evening. Victor was the same - always a smile and a little joke to start the evening. Sebastian was our waiter one evening and went the extra mile to make it enjoyable. Then there was Tania our waitress for one evening. Even though her English wasn't good, and my Spanish is pretty limited, she did everything with a smile on her face. I think she was new to the job - but a great advert for the staff at the Baobab.
Even the chefs cooking the meats to order would smile and joke with you as you waited for it to cook - nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them.
All in all we had our 4th great holiday with the Melonaras Lopesans, and they will certainly be on our list if we return to Gran Canaria.
Our stay was amazing truly 5*
Our stay was amazing truly 5*
Location was great, staff was really helpful and friendly and the food omg that is something.
Will be back soon!
Not a 5 star experience
The Costa Meloneras is advertised and priced as 5 star. On first appearance it certainly looks 5 star, the pools and outside areas are beautiful, but the service here is 3 star at most. The front desk staff are just rude, overall the staff seem to hate working there and they make it very obvious to the customers. It is impossible to get someone to take a drinks order at the bar. The food was terrible. Our kids joked that Lopesan must gather up food leftovers from all the other hotels in the area to serve in their own buffet. Even though we had booked half board we ended up going outside of the hotel everyday to find somewhere that would serve edible, warm food rather than face the buffet. Our holiday was not worth what we paid for it, an incredibly disappointing experience.
Stayed in the Abora Buenaventura for…
Stayed in the Abora Buenaventura for 10 days very friendly staff and management nothing was too much trouble asked for kettle in room it was there when we arrived in room. 5stars 👍
Not a 5* hotel more 3* In my opinion I stayed at the Villa Del Conde in…
I stayed at the Villa Del Conde in Meloneras a 5* hotel according to the Lopesan group, for a week on Bed and Breakfast in an adapted as I am disabled
Let talk about the good points
The adapted bathroom, is very good
The Terrace had sun on it
Their is a disabled hoist to access the swimming pool
The bad points
one of the towels was going home
the some of the bed sheets had holes in them
The mini bar is about 2 feet in front of the bed on the wall below the TV, but it is noisy I could have switch it off but I would then have warm drinks.
In the bedroom there only 2 plugs, one on the wall next to the wardrobe and the other one next to the sofa.
I had a mobility scooter to get around both the hotel and the promenade.
The problem with the lifts in the hotel is that you have to hit the mirror in the lift as you drive in otherwise the lift door will not shut, the gap between the lift door and the back of the scooter is not even 3 cm. I was also advised by a member of staff on reception that their are lifts that are smaller and can be difficult for people in wheelchairs.
Remember both this hotel and their sister hotel Costa Meloneras are allegedly 5*
Breakfast
Both hotel, when it comes to fruit juices either orange or pineapple are out of a carton and not a good quality one at that. I have been to both the Sheraton hotel in Tenerife and Gran Canarias and both of them had a freshly squeezed orange juice machine at breakfast. Possibly if I upgraded to the Unique package, I think this costs around an extra 300 Euros a week, this would give an upgraded selection for breakfast, a nicer pool, but I should not have to pay for better selection at breakfast if the hotel wants to be a 5*
The next issue with breakfast
Normally as I am disabled I go with a waitress in my mobility scooter and point out what I want from the breakfast buffet. I was only allowed to do this once.
Fresh Fruit
They was no guarantee that I could have fresh oranges, grapes, honeydew melon and pineapple.
Once I asked for fresh pineapple and pineapple served was rings out of a tin can, this not acceptable in a 4* hotel let alone in a 5*
The pastry selection was woeful, more a 3* not a 5* They should go and look at the selection of fresh fruits and pastries at a proper 5*
The cleaning and waitressing staff were very helpful
The last issue I had with the hotel is that I needed to have a late check out, as my flight was not to 9.00pm and when I have stayed in both their sister hotel in August last year and pre Corvid in the Sheratons in both Gran Canaria and Tenerife I have never been charged for late check out as a disabled person, if I need to get a bathroom, I have to do it fast otherwise there will be an accident, unfortunately, the problem with this hotel you have to go from the 4th floor where reception is, to the 2nd floor where the nearest disabled toilet that is near the restaurant. They charged me 45 Euros.
I will not be going to any Lopesan hotel in the future.
Lopesan Melonares
Lopesan Melonares, Gran Canaria. The room had the air conditioning set, so it could not go any lower than 22 degrees, which sounds petty - but what's the point in having air conditioned rooms, if you cant chose how cold you want the room. Upon asking for the hotel to lower the level, i was told it was against the law !! What a ridiculous lie. I asked to speak to a manager and was told they would make contact with me and despite chasing, we are still waiting and we are home now ! Terrible service and poor food. Lastly this is a winter destination for sun. I accept the sea is cold and that is nature. But a 5 star hotel should be heating the swimming pools, to make the experience more enjoyable
We were Staying at Lopesan Costa…
We were Staying at Lopesan Costa Meloneras Resort & Spa. It was really Nice. We were here at new year party and it was really amazing. Nice people, cosy and a very good holiday. The garden is a Big garden with Palms, pools and small oases. For sure we Will come back

Probably the worst hotel chain I have ever stayed with after residing at their Lopesan Costa Bavaro in Dominican Republic. The service was non existent and rude and I also ended up in hospital with food poisoning.
Stay away from this hotel brand. I can only assume that arrogance runs through the veins of this hotel brand and they are good at social media but it is all style over substance.
The room wasn’t good

Top 10 Reasons to STAY AWAY from Lopesan
Top 10 Reasons to STAY AWAY from Lopesan
1. The hotel looks nice in photos the same way IKEA furniture looks nice in a catalogue.
2. Dinner at night tasted like left overs from the day’s lunch buffet, plated to look “chef prepared”
3. Prior to arrival, it is impossible to speak to a live person via phone - Charter, Spectrum, even the DMV, all have better customer service.
4. Fact: Freshmen in college drink better alcohol - just because it says “Tito’s” doesn’t mean you are actually drinking vodka.
5. Do you like going to Walmart on Black Friday? Then you’ll love the guests and their behavior at the buffets. It’s literal Hunger Games, everyone is tribute.
6. Speaking of buffets, I would rather have all my meals eating samples at Costco. Room service is worse - I never thought it was possible to make a beef burger taste like it’s vegetarian. Somehow they succeeded.
7. Warning for fellow Asian travelers: a chef at an adjacent table at the teppanyaki restaurant asked his table “is anyone here Japanese!?” And proceeded to pull back the sides of his eyelids. Racist jokes in 2023?
8. The casino preys on guests with a scam game called Razzle that is illegal anywhere else. Google it and don’t fall victim.
9. Walking through a cemetery has more energy and life to it than “The Boulevard”.
10. And, lastly, for good measure… the Adults Only Pool signage uses Comic Sans font. Enough said.
