Unexperienced and outdated!

Unexperienced and outdated!!
Completely ruined my curly hair! Which I am still very upset about and now spend effort and money to fix it!

I had a long conversation with Pia Jensen about how I am used to cut my curly hair to have a good volume but also nice flowing down layers. Also we talked about semi permanent toning. What I got is a big pile of hair which she cut in too many small layers, so I got many many short hairs of multiple different lengths. So the hair is big on both sides of the face and resembles a hat with the same puffed form, the hair also gone high up, and hence look shorter which doesn’t fit my round face. This style of cut is NOT suitable for curly hair and even googling one can know this. Those with curly hair will know what I mean. Now very difficult to style and have to wait 4-6 months to grow the hair into proper length and use a new more professional hairdresser to cut.

We also talked about toning and I asked for semi permanent toning. She said that it won’t help slightly grey hair on the roots. I said but I have done it before maybe times and it works. I trusted her and she suggested to mix to make it a bit stronger on the roots.

The color was very nice, but now the color on the roots gets off In a very visible way, huge difference in color.

When called day after to say I am frustrated about the cut, Pia was very rude to me and tried to blame it on me.

Maybe the main guy is experienced here but Pia Jensen is not.

Again if you need to shave or do something simple they can do it. But to do a proper styled cut for long big curly hair - completely no go!

Destroyed my image and my hair!

Didn’t follow my reference photo and the result is bad!

After months of searching I’ve finally found a great stylist in CPH - but they were fully booked over summer so I had to find somewhere else for August. I chose Mackinder because of their advertised expertise. It’s an expensive haircut (around 1000kr) but I was happy to invest in someone who knows their stuff - I have thick hair that can intimidate some hairdressers. Unfortunately I wasn’t listened to and ended up with the opposite of what I asked for.

I asked for a fairly blunt bob and instructed Stephen not to give me choppy layers (something stylists often want to do with my thick hair, but which ultimately doesn’t fall very nicely in my hair)

I was detailed and straightforward, I showed “Do and Don’t” pics - a “do” pic of my past blunt haircut, and a “don’t” pic of my hair with choppy layers. As I was speaking, I had the impression Stephen wasn’t really listening. But I figured that as an expert, he could follow the photo I showed.

I’ll note that I only showed pictures of my own past haircuts - and therefore a haircut that had already been proven possible with my own hair, it’s not like I came in with unrealistic pictures of a model with a completely different hair type that couldn’t be replicated in my hair. It was a pretty clear photo and instruction.

At first, Stephen started by cutting it blunt, but my hair ballooned like a mushroom (other hairdressers in my home country and the US have successfully given me really nice mostly blunt cuts so there must be a way to do to it - after all, that’s why I chose to go Mackinder with all their expertise!)

At the mushroom shape, Stephen seemed to panic and suddenly went in and chopped layers into it. I didn’t really get a good look at what he was doing (had no glasses on) but when it was done, I saw that I suddenly had extremely choppy layers - a very early 2000s look.

I’m so disappointed to have dropped 1000 kr to get what I specifically instructed against - choppy layers. And because layers take so long to grow - I’m stuck with it. With my bleached hair, the layers create a really grunge, early 2000s feel when I requested blunt elegance. I have had to wear it up every day since while I wait for it to grow.

I also have an undercut that I get cleanly shaved off - Stephen was almost afraid to shave it? I asked him to give it another go when I could feel all the growth still there, and he kept saying “I’m afraid to be too aggressive” (I said shave it clean off - my instructions were clear.) So in the end I left with patchy tufts of hair on the undercut that I had to get fixed somewhere else.

I emailed Stephen asking for a refund - at least partial refund - and again, he didn’t seem to be listening to the contents of my email. He replied and spelled my name wrong, and offered for me to come in and rectify the hair. I replied that he couldn’t rectify it until the layers grew out over months, which is why only a refund is appropriate. He didn’t reply, and didn’t reply again after I sent a follow up.

Honestly I’m surprised to have had this experience at a salon that describes itself as experts and industry educators and prices haircuts so highly.

Perfection at it's best!

Over the years I've tried many salons (also pricier than Mackinder) At Mackinder (for the first time) today, I felt I got more than what I paid for, and that doesn't happen very often. I had my hair cut by Zee, and it was obvious from the minute I sat down, that he pays extreme attention to detail- I appreciate when people care enough to give their very best.
Know as "frizzy miss Lizzy" my hair is not easy to cut (properly) Zee managed to do so, which proofs he "Knows Hair!" I could tell from watching/listening, that the other staff in the salon also are uttermost professional. On their website they state the following: "Technique, knowledge and creative thinking are the foundations of our hairdressing"
While any salon can write/claim this on their website, not all can execute it! Mackinder can. The salon is well "hidden away" on the first floor, but it's like finding a hidden gem across from La Glace.
I feel lucky that I discovered this salon, and I know just where to go for my next cut. Thank you so much.
Best regards,
Sine
