Not built to code and they wash their hands of it.

They don't build the boiler/ surrounding units to code so it can't be fixed without ripping apart your kitchen. Contacted them and they said as I've stayed in the house over 2 years any "defects" are not covered under warranty. I don't think any reasonable person says something not built to code is a defect but I guess they do.

Also plastic drain grates, brilliant idea, seen loads of people with their foot down them, cars cracked them within a week. Cheap option.

They also get all their "reviews" of customer satisfaction in right at the start before you know any better and advertise it - this is the real story on reviews.

Inconsiderate and dangerous

Unfortunately we live opposite your site in Haddington. “Lethington gardens”. We can’t get parked anywhere near our property for Mactaggart & Mickel Vehicles. We pay a factoring fee for the upkeep of our parking area but can’t park in our parking area because of their work vehicles. The state they have the road in and the health and safety practices on the site and on the main road of Davids Way are a disgrace. The state they have the road in is disgusting.

Poor customer service

Still fighting with this cowboy builder over leaking windows that are supposed to come with a 10 years guarantee and DO NOT. Window has leaked water from the day it was fitted, has been reported several times to MacMic who refused to attend to it after the 2 years snagging period was up. What happened to the 10 years guarantee I was promised at point of sale? Well, this does NOT exist. Leaking windows are NOT covered by MacMic after the home-owner's 2 years warranty has expired. The window supplier has even confirmed the window is not fit for purpose but still MacMic refuse to fit it, instead I have to get a window fitter (at my own expense) to fit a new window. Customer service is deplorable, if non-existent. One rule for one home-owner and a different rule for another. MacMic basically take your money and run! The quality of their work is extremely poor, often using wrong materials. You have a 2 years snagging period and after that don't try asking them for assistance or help for faulty goods, even for major issues like carports that collapsed, leaking windows, all major jobs. Their customer service pool of staff is terrible. Most positive reviews they have on any review sites are from MacMic employees. BE CAREFUL, they talk a good game at point of sale, promise you the world and deliver zilch! Never again would I purchase a MacMic property, in fact, they have actually put me off buying a new home altogether if this is how buyers are treated. The list of mistakes, faults etc in the house is endless too. Terrible company, please DO NOT be fooled by the sales patter! Please also note, the 1 positive review they have had is from a homeowner who has been in their property 2 weeks, wait 2 years and then see this person's opinion, I bet it'll be somewhat different from the pleasant one they have written today! I would think twice about buying from them, once you buy they don’t care about after care or issues. Use wrong materials at times and then try and blame the home owner. Disgraceful customer service.
Build a carport on our propert and used wrong packing materials, confirmed by there own management. ( car port collapsed) they don’t even reply to emails.

After Sales Service

We bought a house from mactaggart and mickel in 2019 and had some serious problems caused by their shoddy work due to rushing through builds and incompetence (burst mains water pipe, sewage waste backing up, toilet flooring need replacing, windows leaking etc). The after sales/Customer service was appalling, with complete disregard to resolve issues in a timely fashion and no common decency(staff are extremely rude and their default position is its not our problem). There entire staff need to go on customer training and instead of incentivising bonuses on just sales, have an incentive to also have the same focus on after sales. It took months to receive a written apology for the burst water mains, after numerous emails/letters and even then they were still making excuses. There ethos about being customer focused is laughable to say the least and i would stay well clear of them.

Company which purports to be a high…

Company which purports to be a high quality builder is nothing of the sort, they are extremely keen to take your money and then avoid any and all issues which happen post purchase of the house.
Poor workmanship, cheap materials and a company who hide behind insurance exclusions when they are entirely at fault. Apparently Alexander Mickel inspects properties himself according to the daily record - he is either complicit in shoddy practices or incompetent if he does actually inspect at all.
Staff are primed to deflect and weasel their way out of anything which might cost them money.
Do not buy a Mac Mic house would be my recommendation

Amazing customer service

Amazing customer service from start to finish. We have been working with Jen from the Millerhill site. Her manner and professionalism is outstanding. Buying a new house with a pregnant partner is super stressful. Jen made this part super easy for us.

In terms of the quality of the build. We have been in for 2 weeks and have found the workmanship at such a high level. Looking at various other developments we would say Mactaggart & Mickel are way in front of delivering in a higher quality of finish.

Just don't expect to be able to get any…

Just don't expect to be able to get any of the options and upgrades they offer. Everything we had as standard in our last macmic home on this same development 3 years ago is now a chargeable extra. Even a shower over the bath is an extra £625. Wardrobes £450 each. They leave you a back garden of mud, no more grass included. To add insult to injury after waiting a year for our new larger home to be released we've just been told we can't have the options we already chose (these are not free, we have to pay for them by the way) we can't have them because although our entry date is over four months ahead they want us to conclude missives within the next 10 days or we can't have any options as macmic deem it a risk in case we pull out. This is despite our house being under written offer, our buyers house also under written offer and the fact we pay for the options we want up front! Who concludes missives over 4 months before an entry date and with less than 2 weeks notice of this being a new rule? They even have the cheek to try and blame it on Covid. No real explanation as to why this is Covids fault but I suppose its a handy excuse. After waiting over a year for this plot to become available we can only buy it if we have the bog standard build and none of the options we were promised were part of buying a new build. Not the way to instill confidence in your company mactaggart & mickel!
