Buyer beware 3…

Paid 8.99 for expedited shipping for 3 plants. Took 7 plus days and arrived melted and in poor condition. I emailed customer service and never heard back. Poor product no customer service but learned a $30 lesson to not do business with Marcus.

Horrible customer service!

Just had the worst experience with Marcus Bank. Initiated a transfer to another bank to close on a home purchase. First call I was placed on hold for too long as I had to be transferred so a hold on my account could be released. I executed the transfer after being transferred back to customer service. I then noticed a few days later the funds did not arrive into my other bank. Called Marcus again and after two rounds of authentication, they said there was a restriction on this transfer. No advance notice. She then asked if I authorize the transfer. Are you @&$ing kidding me.

Worst Bank in my 40 Years of Banking

Marcus will take your money but won't let you withdraw it. I have been trying for more than 2 weeks to withdraw in amounts of $1,000, $600, $400 all reversed. When I attempted to close my account, they reversed that as well.

Refused to complete a transfer of funds…

After multiple transfers to my personal checking account Marcus decided it was a business account ( it is not) and reversed a transfer. Customer service was inept and would not make any effort to explain or help. Closing my account and moving to a real bank.

I am writing to express my frustration…

I am writing to express my frustration with Marcus Bank regarding the process of closing my account and withdrawing my funds. I have changed my phone number and now cannot access my account to initiate the closure or transfer my money.

Despite multiple attempts to resolve this with customer service, I have not received the assistance I need. It is imperative that I close my account and withdraw all funds to my currently linked bank account immediately.

Likely financial fraud

Absolutely terrible experience. They refused to transfer my money to another bank. They simply cancelled the transfer. When I called them, they asked all the identifying information, but decided it wasn't enough for them to even tell me why they wouldn't transfer the money.

It seems I also needed to identify myself with a driver's license. Except the one from my state of residence wasn't good enough (no mention of why or which states are ok).

They could also send me a one time code except not to a number that used to be under a different carrier or was transferred to a new phone. I wonder how many people have only used a single phone and a single carrier for their entire lives.

The manager was even less helpful. Not only did he not provide any information or assistance, but he refused to transfer me to his manager or their legal department. When asked what legal right they had to refuse to transfer my money, he claimed it was in FAQs on their website. Not only is the FAQ page not a legal agreement, but he couldn't even point me to the specific answer.

If this doesn't convince you, take a look at the user reviews on BBB (links are not allowed by easy enough to find). Currently 345 reviews with only about a dozen above 1 star.

I'll be filing a complaint with CFPB (links are not allowed by easy enough to find) and calling my Representative and my Senator.

Horrible experience - avoid Marcus

Horrible experience. I submitted a $5k transfer to an external account. A day later they left me a voicemail that I had to give them a call. I called, had to go through rounds of security verification and call transfer... then the specialist disconnects me. Next time I call, same verification rounds, then they tell me it's because one of my external accounts that i've transferring to for over a year needs verification that it's mine. So they try to get me on a 3-way call with that bank, and then they disconnect me again. So I call back a third time, going through three rounds of verification to speak with a supervisor. And she ends up telling me the other specialist was wrong about the issue, and that my full account is locked because that $5k was accidentally sent to my chase business account. And that they wouldn't allow me to access my account or any of my other funds until that $5k returned. HORRIBLE customer service. Avoid this place... my savings is literally not accessible for days because of this minor issue that they couldn't even communicate clearly to me.

Nightmare dealing with complete incompetence

I can't stress this enough. This bank is the most incompetent I have ever dealt with in my entire life. I had numerous issues trying to send funds to a linked external account. I spent over an hour on the phone with customer service and got nowhere. At a later date I tried to send a wire and they sent me the wrong form and the money almost went to someone else's account. Please dont ignore these reviews. Their rates are enticing but you can do better at competitors without the hassle.

stay away from their CD or HYSA

stay away from their CD or HYSA. They make it so easy to take your money (deposit), but place a lot of obstacles for you to gain access to your own money. once you want money transferred out they lock up your account and start requesting silly things claiming your phone number is unverifiable to you. evenafter they sent a code to my phone which i provided back confirming it is indeed mine. next they started talking about sending some affadvit to my home which they never send out just doing anything to hold your money hostage, dragging you getting access to your money for months. even after i requested they close my account and refund my money to the account it was transferred to them out of via ACH. then they claimed they couldnt verify that account was mine like What????

pre-approved for a $350k With a catch...

They pre-approved me for a $350k line of credit for my business via AMAZON - and I was eager to move forward since Amazon Lending closed its doors. I applied for the line of credit and uploaded all needed documents (6 exact). The next day, they asked for a voided check, which I had already uploaded. I clicked on the link they sent to upload it again, but was unable to load more documents since I had already uploaded 6. The rep told me they would have to open a ticket to resolve the issue. I asked if I could just email the needed voided check, but they said no. I waited days to get the link to finally upload the last doc needed to get the funds I was approved for, only to learn that the loan offer had expired! Their response was, "Sorry, you'll just need to wait for the next loan offer." Keep in mind, I had a past loan with them, paid in good standing. None of this makes sense. No one at Marcus GS wanted to fix the issue, sooooo 2024, it's just laughable and sad. Truly expected more from this so called reputable company.

To better clarify my 4-star review

To better clarify my 4-star review, I'll split it into two reviews...

Savings: 5/5. Their rates are competitive, website and app are okay, and (this is the big one) they periodically offer bonuses to deposit money into your existing savings account. Highly recommend.

Credit Card (GM specifically): 3/5. The rewards rate is good, but this is a review of GS specifically. I had the card when it was with Capital One and the transition was a bit painful. I STILL get paper statements and bill payment notifications despite turning on electronic communications multiple times and messaging with customer service. It isn't a huge deal by itself, but it is annoying and seemingly impossible to stop.

I’ve tried on several occasions to…

I’ve tried on several occasions to start an online savings account. Today my online application needed to be verified over the phone. First, the customer service associate told me I had to be referred to a specialist then she came back and said the specialist wasn’t available so she could help me. When we finish the application, she told me I would have to call back tomorrow because the application specialist had just closed their office for the day. That’s it! Looking for another savings account. This process shouldn’t be this hard.

Thieves

I deposited $100,000 with Marcus on 1/15. On 1/27-28 I tried to access to add more funds, only to find that they had locked my account. I called, the rep had no information, other than they will not allow access to my funds, and will not tell me when they will either allow me access or return my funds. I have called 4 times, 2/7, 2/8, I have spent HOURS on hold, spoken with William, Kayla, Tatiana, Calique(sp?) and Audrey, and nobody there can give any answer other than to wait another 5-7 days and call back. This is unacceptable behavior from a supposedly professional company.

How do I get my money back?

Customer service is really poor

Customer service is really poor. They locked my account when I was travelling abroad. When I came back, they closed my account. The customer service had no idea what they are doing and could not give me any reason, but only told me to open a new account. Tried to call customer service multiple times, none of them showing professionalism.

Couldn't get a confirmation of account ownership letter!!

I had the worst experience trying to get a letter to confirm my account ownership, account number, routing number and balance letter. It was for a mutual fund company. I expected they get this request frequently. None of the customer service people knew what I was talking about. I got a how to direct deposit to the bank but not what I asked for. It took me about a month to get the letter after many frustrating calls. I have been sent surveys from the bank and gave a low score and explained why. Never been contacted. I am waiting for the CD's to mature and all money will be transferred out of this bank for myself and my mother. I have been asked why I am closing CD's and been very honest of why and how bad their service is... no reply. Do not bank with this bank.

If I had the choice to leave no star I…

If I had the choice to leave no star I would have. These people are greedy monsters. My husband(not my boyfriend) passed away in our home which I had to move out and get back on my feet and called them to see if they could send me TWO HUNDRED dollars!!!!!! And they want me to pay the courts 400-500 dollars just to receive my husbands funds!!!!! Do NOT do business with these people because when your life gets turned upside down they won’t even try to help you get a little bit of money that doesn’t even belong to them to help you repair your life. And not to mention I lost my job after my husband died!!!! Lost my husband, my place of residence and my job and this is how they treat a grieving widow.
