I stayed 3 days in Marienlyst together with a friend. I have been there about 4 times before. I like the hotel, the pools and the food. It make me very happy. Unfortunately my friend did not want to use the pools but she was happy with the room, the food and the surroundings. I stayed there for the first time two nights. It was very nice. This time I did not use the pools outside, it was too cold. Instead I were swimming in the big pool indor.

We loved our 3 day stay at the Marienlyst. As an American, the pool club was a wholly new experience for us and we loved it! We even loved the cold plunge in the frigid Oresund. And, the breakfast was impressive... so many options, all so fresh. If I ever find myself up the coast in Denmark again, I will absolutely stay at the Marienlyst!! Thank you!!!

This used to be a genuinely peaceful place to relax and unwind. Now it's been turned into yet another soulless lifestyle venue chasing trends instead of offering what a spa is actually supposed to be.
The spa has been completely ruined. Club music blasts everywhere, even in the sauna, so there's nowhere to escape the noise. The quiet room is gone, replaced by lounge beds where people sit around drinking. They've even added a restaurant inside the spa, and the entire experience now revolves around buying food and cocktails while listening to nightclub music.
A spa should be a sanctuary for silence, relaxation, and disconnecting from the outside world. Instead, it attracts groups treating it like a poolside bar. People talk loudly, shout across the room, and behave as if they're at a beach club. The constant music almost encourages it, because there's no atmosphere of calm left to respect.
It's depressing to see yet another place sacrifice its identity in pursuit of higher profits. If the goal was to maximize food and drink sales, then they've probably succeeded. But they've destroyed everything that made this place special in the process.
To make matters worse, it's significantly more expensive than it used to be. You're paying more for an experience that's objectively less relaxing. What was once a tranquil retreat has become a noisy, commercialized shell of itself. I won't be returning, and I can't recommend it to anyone looking for an actual spa experience.

Great hotel, spa and staff, either way we received a room with ocean view, bathtub, treats and water bowl for our two dogs.
When we came back after Spa at 23:00 and wanted to use the bathtub, light didn't work in the whole room, they didn't manage to fix it. We had to pack our stuff, unable to watch last of world cup finals... and spend time moving to a worse room with no bathtub, no ocean view, no water bowl for the dogs, with lots of car parking noise cause it was first floor right out to casino entrance. We were otherwise excited to wake up seeing the easter sun from bed but nope..
Edit:
Seemingly they didn't charge our drinks from the Spa, idk if that was as an excuse or just a mistake and we will be billed at some time, if it's an excuse, definitely 5-stars.
Edit: They did charge it, but with 3-weeks delay.

I have been at Marienlyst several times. The last two days was a blast, as well hey were kind to upgrade me. Especially Marius H in the reception who I coincidentally ran into four times during my stay. Super service minded and kind!

Had an amazing stay at Marienlyst while visitting Helsingør and Luisiana museum. Fount a great offer online that included sauna gus ritual and really enjoyed it all. The breakfast buffet is just the best I’ve ever experienced with a great variety of vegan food that just impressed me. Definitely recommend trying it.

UPDATE: AFTER SENDING AN EMAIL AGAIN AND AFTER PROVIDING THE REVIEW ON TRUST PILOT, THE HOTEL CALLED AND INFORMED THAT THEY FOUND THE CHARGER AND SENT ME THROUGH COURIER AND I RECEIVED ON THE 12th DEC. THE COVERED THE COST OF THE COURIER. THANKS!
This was probably one of the most disappointing communication experiences I have had with any hotel within Denmark or internationally. Our organisation arranged a retreat for around 20 people in October 2025, booking both a conference room for two days and 20 guest rooms for night stay. During the event itself, the food, dinner and hospitality were good. The problem began only after I checked out.
On the night of our stay, a false fire alarm went off around 3:45 am, forcing all guests downstairs. After returning to my room, my sleep was already disrupted and, in the rush to check out by 9:00 am, I forgot to unplug my MacBook Pro charger from the bedside wall socket.
Later that day, I realised I had left it behind and immediately emailed the hotel, sending two emails to two different addresses. The following day, a staff member replied with a link to their lost-and-found request form, which I completed and submitted. After submission I sent an email again and also clearly explained how I could collect the charger if they located it. I provided my detail addresses including phone number as well
After that, there were no phone calls, no emails, and no updates. Three weeks later, I emailed again, but once more received no response. I assumed they might have sent it by post. Yesterday, I called the hotel to ask why no one had contacted me despite multiple emails. They claimed they could not find any of my emails. I forwarded the entire email chain and asked again for guidance on how to retrieve my adaptor with charger.
Today, I finally received a reply stating that they do not keep lost items for more than one month. While I understand this may be their policy, it was extremely disappointing to receive no communication over the past two months. A simple confirmation that they had received my request, and an update on whether the item was found, would have allowed me to collect it in person or arrange postal delivery.
The complete lack of communication or follow-up made the process frustrating and unprofessional. It leaves the impression that if a guest forgets something at this hotel, there is little chance of recovering it or even being informed whether it was found.

Very disappointed. It’s instagram worthy for sure if you can find a spot without people - hotel prioritizes quantity over quality just like the other other hotels in ESS Group. I guess they still make money on the masses. Dogs are allowed but only in the rooms - this should be much clearer before booking!!! Very disappointing. Good to know also that kids are allowed but not in any pools - this should also be much clearer before booking. The staff were friendly but this was absolutely not worth it and I am SO disappointed.

We, as a family (2 adults, 2 children), stayed at Marienlyst Strandhotel from Saturday to Sunday last month, and we really enjoyed our stay there.
We had a very smooth check-in and received an upgrade to a truly amazing room, along with an in-room surprise.
We would like to say thank you for such an amazing experience and excellent service, and especially thank Melanie for ensuring we had a wonderful weekend getaway! 😊

I usually don’t write reviews, but this time I have to. We had high expectations for Hotel Marienlyst, but unfortunately, they were not met. Our way to the room felt like walking through a terrible basement—dust, mess, and a horrible smell. It seemed like there was ongoing renovation, yet the staff never informed us or offered to change our room.
Our room was at the end of the hallway, in the corner. When we were getting ready for dinner, we couldn't open the door because it was blocked by another door. I called the reception, and while they did come to open it, they neither apologized nor explained the situation, despite seeing the mess and scattered items on the floor.
If you're planning to visit the pool, be prepared—sunbeds cannot be reserved unless you're sitting on them the entire time. You must keep your belongings on a hanger, and if you leave anything on a sunbed while swimming, the staff will move your items to a hanger without informing you.
A week after our stay, I received a second invoice for an outstanding payment for an appetizer we never ordered and two glasses of wine. I replied to their email with a screenshot and proof that we had paid for everything on the spot. However, even after two days, Hotel Marienlyst still could not locate our payment, claiming that five other payments of the same amount were processed at the time—something that is not our concern.
Don't set your expectations too high. We were disappointed with this experience.

Very dissatisfied and frustrated with the waitress’s service in Isabell restaurant on 27th of March 20:30 evening service.
I requested lactose free butter and when told that there was none, I requested olive oil for the relatively dry bread. The waitress came with some lemon flavoured oil, which reminded me of a massage oil, so I asked for normal olive oil. She said she’d go and get some in the other restaurant.
We receive and finished our first course and there was no sign of her bringing the oil. My husband inquired about it, to which she responded that she’s been vey busy and could not get it. Then he asked if she would get it now and she responded that she Is busy serving other customers, so she couldn’t. Totally astounded by this unprofessional answer, he asked her if he should go to get it himself to which-she responded, “Yes, go and get it yourself.” We were really shocked! He got up and walked to get it. A Swedish by origin waiter from the other restaurant ran to bring it long with some fresh bread. We couldn’t believe how it was possible to hire and obviously not train staff? Not to mention that the following morning the lactose free butter was available and I was informed that they had it all the time. This is a 4-star hotel and the price we pay is supposed to be for a certain level of service that includes basic knowledge and professionalism.
This experience ruined our evening. We do not have any intent to come back to Marienlyst any time soon. Really disappointing!

Unfortunately the standards of Marienlyst have gone down in recent years :( The spa is too crowded, the service poor and incredibly slow in the restaurant, run by unprofessional young staff. I had to wait 1 hour in between the starter and main course and then skip the dessert to make it to the spa in my allocated slot.
Finally they no longer offer single room stays as they used to a few years ago, so I have booked myself at Comwell Borupgaard for a much needed relaxing spa break with excellent service and food, as I know they do that!

Being at the hotel for a second time helped us to figure out a few things.. hope these tips will help you !
Come early for breakfast at Isabella’s. Then you will enjoy it.
Spa could be messy but timing is key. Booking does not guarantee a good experience.
See view rooms not worth it .
Not clean, the floor gets dirty , and right now is 4am and I can’t sleep because my dear neighbor snoring with full engines on :/.
However.
After Sauna Gus my wife fainted and hit herself 2 within one minute. Very scary 😧
People from the stuff were very helpful and I really appreciate that.
Rory restaurant was a disappointment. Unappetizing and just not a getting up from a table with smile , let’s come back soon experience.
Many reviewers says about waiting and staff issues .
Although the hotel has luxurious elements, underpaid , way to young and inexperienced workers will effect my booking mood, next time I wish to relax.

Great hotel with friendly and serviceminded staff. One of the best places in Denmark to enjoy the sunset. I will for sure come back.
Fantastic place where they look after those guests 100%
A fantastic hotel in great surroundings where you know you will be looked after. Especially if a bunch of rude young people try and ruin your stay.
Thanks you Marienlyst. See you next time.
The staff and ownership is racist. Be aware and careful if you have black or brown skin color
