Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 81 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many customers expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of the food, noting issues like dry, overcooked, or inedible items, and even foreign objects found in meals. Reviewers also frequently criticized the service, citing long wait times for food, unhelpful staff, and a general lack of attention. The pricing was another significant concern, with many finding the food and drinks to be overpriced, especially given the perceived low quality and small portion sizes. Conversely, some people also felt that the staff could be friendly, welcoming, and efficient, with specific individuals receiving praise for their excellent service. However, other reviewers found the staff to be poorly trained, argumentative, and at times, rude, particularly managers. There was also a lack of consensus regarding the product offerings, with some enjoying their meals while others found the menu choices limited, especially for vegetarian and vegan options.

Today we called in to The Peppermill…

Today we called in to The Peppermill pub in Longton Stoke on Trent to have breakfast.
We ordered a Cooked breakfast and a Muffin with bacon and a fried egg from the Breakfast menu plus two lattes, from the pleasant young man at the bar.
The coffees came but were half full and tepid.

The two breakfasts came after a long wait. The fried egg on the cooked breakfast was rock hard, the bits of bacon were overcooked as was the hash brown. The female server came to ask if everything was ok, I said No and could we have another fried egg which came and was ok.
My husband ate his breakfast although it was not completely satisfactory because he was hungry.

My muffin was hard to cut with a knife, and I definitely could not bite into it. The bacon bits were shrivelled up and the egg was slimey.
There was no way of eating it as I think the muffin was stale and not toasted as specified on the menu.

I gave it back to the female server and asked for the manager, who wasn’t available.
I asked for a refund on my breakfast but because other customers had been served since our order, they were unable to give me a receipt from the till. I was given this email to write instead.

During this time a chef of quite a large build came behind the bar and I asked him if he’d cooked my muffin, which he said he had. I explained what was wrong with it that it was stale, which he denied but apologised but it was said in a patronising way, that I didn’t feel it was genuine. He also said that he would send a portion of the muffin off to be tested….?

The young man that initially took our order was really concerned about our situation and couldn’t apologise enough. He told me he’d only been there for five days so I was sorry for his situation as he was trying to do his best to help our situation.

I am hoping that you will have the decency to refund the cost of my breakfast as I feel that this is justified, seeing as I didn’t have anything to eat in the end.

The total cost of both breakfasts including the coffees was £17.20. I paid by card.
This experience was dissatisfactory and quite disgraceful really.
I await your response.

Took too long to order as only 1…

Took too long to order as only 1 serving at the bar. We then ordered at the table for our food but literally waited till the next day for it to arrive. The food came and it was so awful we decided to leave it and go elsewhere. Everyone is complaining on other tables. Won't be coming to another Marstons pub as they all seem to be awful

DO NOT EAT HERE

978804338

As an ex employee I am writing to warn everyone to NOT eat at the squirrel, Ludlow. I have informed Marstons regarding the managers illegal redating of food but they have done nothing. Eat at your risk or peril. The manager orders the staff to redate the food every day until it looks to bad to serve!!!!! This is an illegal and immoral but the manager continues to get away with it. I’m more than than happy to meet with Marstons, James and the EHO to discuss this and see whether he has the nerve to lie in front of me.
Marstons, you need to listen I am one person who actually cares

Day light robbers & no conscience

This company shows absolutely no compassion or regard for a local community surrounding one of its pubs and the cost of living crisis. Marstons recently changed the parking facilities that have catered to our local community for years and years having a vast array of shop where we need to park to access with no issues. They haven't bothered to inform us that now they've changed the parking rules and only people attending the pub can park there, otherwise they pick pocket you £100 just for popping into tesco as the locality have done for years without any issue. Not even so much as a warning and showing respect to the community. If they made a change so drastic that would impact people negatively they should be informing the community properly, simply out of respect and consideration. But they're clearly not bothered, just flat out demanding a pay out. It was clearly a shady money making scheme for them, with the local community being so large surrounding one of their pubs and the pubs parking taking up the majority of the space to our local shops, to which is now almost completely empty causing overflow to access the shops. I will not be using any of their businesses ever again. No morals, no heart, no mercy. They won't be getting a penny out of me.

Please exercise caution

Please exercise caution. Brute Force operates in a highly unprofessional and unethical manner, potentially jeopardizing your livelihood. They have been known to manipulate systems, putting individuals and their assets at risk. In some instances, they issue illegal notices, delivering them informally through employees or via WhatsApp, without any formal meetings. Be aware that they may even initiate County Court Judgments (CCJs) against you. This situation brings to mind the infamous Post Office scandal, where systemic failures caused significant harm to innocent people. Proceed with vigilance.

I along with all the customers who use…

I along with all the customers who use the Highfields inn are totally disgusted with the price increase, also the price change on the carlsberg lager when the price increases on a friday Saturday and Sunday ? This issue has caused a lot of customers to use somewhere else to drink, along with the price of wine by the bottle is very expensive when you can get the same wine 20 yards away in the local shop for a quarter of the price , which is very sad as most of us have grown up in the caerau area and drank here for a long time

DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY

DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY. I started at a pub in Witham Essex. First red flag I was told to fill out the contract myself, the manager didn't even fill the bits she needed to fill out first, I'd signed the contract before she had even ticked the box for guaranteed minimum hours e.g 8/15/25 hours etc, she stuck me on a 0 hour contract and didn't even tell me that's what she was going to do. She knew my availability and how many days/hours I wanted but still proceed to put me on a 0 hour contract. I took two days off as my children had a sickness bug, then she changed the rota without informing any of the team which resulted in another member of staff battling traffic on a Friday evening to them be told she wasn't even on the rota as they had been changed. Also I wasn't meant to be in on the Saturday of the same week and they uploaded a photo of the new rotas that same day! I have 2 children I couldn't get the childcare. The manager was meant to contact me with hours for the next week and she never did but had given me hours right up until the end of October apart from the week she was meant to contact me. I then get an EMAIL (how professional) to basically say I've failed my probation because I failed to attend my training days (what am I meant to do with 2 children being sick at home). I reached out to HR to see where I stand as I feel it's in unfair dismissal. I have left voicemails and emails and no one has got back to me. I was told they don't have a actual HR department and it's just a few people working for home. The way I've been treated is disgusting and I'm taking it further. Also if you don't want food poisoning I'd avoid as they leave cooked beef on the side uncovered for god knows how long! I think they just wanted to get rid of me as they don't get the customers in so they cant give out the hours! I have screenshot the group chat of where the manager has messed up so I have my own back if needed.

Never Give This Company Your Business

It was my finances birthday so we entered the Spring Tide pub and I ordered one Rocky Road Sundae to share. When at the bar I asked the staff member if she could add a free flake as it was my finances birthday.

We are talking a free flake here which would have cost Marsdens no more than five pence.

When the staff member presented me with the payment terminal it was showing 79 pence for an extra flake, I said to her you said you were adding it for free, her reply was, "I am not Marsdens I just work here, do you want me to remove it?" I requested she did, she had to do this going to three separate tills, how pathetic.

I was astounded that Marsdens would charge 79 pence for a flake that cost no more than five pence at the most. What has happened to those days when you received a free desert on a customers birthday ?

It would have cost you very little to have added the free flake. It was a very disappointing experience the desert was not even nice and no way worth £5.99

It is such a shame that customers are no longer welcomed and valued anymore.

Will never go into a Marsdens ever again as they no longer value their customers.

Rude miserable staff, over priced poor quality food, none existant customer service.

You only have to read the 100's of appauling reviews on here to understand just how bad this company is.

It will not be too long before we are hearing that Marsedns have gone into receivership and the sooner this happens the better.

The Longwood

The Longwood, Tamworth. Two of us. Well, what a shambles. Sunday 14:00, not too busy. Pint of Guinness. Asked if another product was on tap, only to then get served the beer?? Forget the name of it as it's something I don't want to remember. It was a white beer. Anyway. So, go to order some Sunday lunch. "Ah, sorry, not available just now as the manager has had to go to Sutton Coldfield pub (Plough and Harrow) to get the meat..........what the f. Available in half hour. Fair enough. no rush.
Order Half Chicken dinner and Roast beef dinner. Pathetic. The absolute worst meal I have ever tasted in my life. Two thin strips of beef, pis poor vegetables, completely dry, no gravy, just a completely ridiculous meal. Number two meal, was just that...........half a chicken? I've seen bigger poussin.
Well, poor service, poor food and overpriced beer/food. Triple whammy and never again.
This is why other pub chains (namely Wetherspoons) are doing very well and Marstons aren't. End of.
I will never revisit this place. (Had to amend due to the PC people. Not allowed to swear, sorry :) )

Expensive drinks, just about 3* food

Had an okay carvery, but had run out of beef at 6.30pm. Asked for coffee at 8.30pm following our meal, and they couldn’t let us have any because they were cleaning the machine. Said the bar had to be cleared down by 9pm… clearly not a place to go for an evening meal. Meals are okay prices, but the drink prices are extortionate. It’s an okay place to go for an early evening, okay roast dinner.

Great if you want to risk your life

My family went to the Plas coch Wrexham last month for a birthday meal. Due to the kitchen staffs incompetence my brother was rushed to hospital with a reaction to shell fish that was cross contaminated on a mixed grill, after half the food was raw. My 1 year old nephew also had an allergic reaction to the cross contamination on his vegan meal that had eggs in which he’s also allergic to. I had to leave the meal half way though to rush my brother to the hospital to prevent him dying. And have been told by Ruth Powell Head of Technical Services that is doesn’t deserve a refund, when I also had to spend the night in hospital with my brother leaving my pregnant wife with my mother who was very distraught due to whole ordeal. Appalling customer service from head office.

Avoid like the plague!

Double charged and still not been refunded by these people.stayed at The Unicorn in Gunthorpe. Infestation of flies in the rooms so ended up sleeping on the floor of the lobby. Told what do you expect by a river. No compensation. Took money out of my account to pay for two rooms even though they knew I had already paid booking.com. Hadnt got the money off booking.com so stole it out of my account.
