Nothing gluten free at all!

My son has coeliac disease which means that he cannot eat any gluten. It is not his choice, but an unfortunate medical diagnosis.
Marugame offers absolutely nothing gluten free, and tonight even rice was unavailable at Waterloo because the rice cooker had broken.
Please please provide something, ANYTHING for people who are not being difficult or choosing foods on a whim, but for those who wish more than anything that they too could sit down and enjoy a meal with their family.

My food was excellent

My food was excellent, the only problem was we over ordered. I had the katsu chicken with rice(which was amazing but huge). The customer service was very good. You go round like a semi circle to get everything. Genius.

Vegan curry with rice

Dreadful. It's supposed to have vegetables but only had a few bits of carrot and potato; there is barely anything nutritional and nothing tasty about it. I see this complaint has come up before but they've done nothing to address it.

I had the vegan curry which was curry…

I had the vegan curry which was curry sauce with a couple of tiny cubes of potato and a few tiny cubes of carrot and loads watery curry sauce on glutinous rice - it wasn’t fresh
Also the veggie dumplings were over cooked and cold
Very very disappointing

Not bad but certainly not my favourite eating place

This is an easy review

Their food contains E621, better known as MSG which is not a particularly healthy thing to put in food. It’s a food enhancer which makes you want more. If you want at their chicken katsu or it will be contained in their sauces. Try to avoid it if you can and look at the effects as it’s not good/ Personally I avoid any restaurants with use it. I blacklist places that use it because it means I can’t trust them and need to check their ingredients. Wagamama by way of comparison do not use it. They do use it is their mistro soup only.

That aside the environment of the restaurant is not bad. I find it too much like a canteen than a restarant. Similarto McDonalds. Also, everything here is fried. Nothing grilled but their noodles are made fresh so that’s a bonus. Shame they put so much emphasis on the noodles but not the sauce. I actually signed up to their club but I never want back after I found out they use msg. Shame really but I wouldn’t call this Japanese cuisine. It’s more western food in my opinion. Now the argument here is the tempura should be grilled but for a lot of Asian style foods I prefer steamed for allot of dishes like gyoza. Fried is not healtthy due to free radicals. Wagamaa steam theirs. Healtier and much better tasting. Why do I compare? The food is very similar but I prefer wagamama lot more . Better food, service and atmosphere. No MSG. Marugame take note.

There are better places out there but I guess people put too much emphasis on trust. You need to check what you are eating. Some places like Leon are also very open about ingredients. When you order there is an entire section on their machines about ingredients and nutrition. They are very open. I’d like all eating places to do the same. marugame treat it like it's secret. I want to know what I am eating. Customers need to know what they are putting in their body. It's very easy to put this information on your machines when we order. You just choose not to. I had to ask a chef about E621 and even he did not know and had to look at the ingredeitns of the Chicken Katsu sauce. Not a place I can recommend so I never go there to eat.

Affordable, hassle-free Asian food

This chain has just opened a restaurant in the Oracle, Reading, and I tried it for the first time today. I loved that they were inviting people to eat for half price, as they were training their staff. A win-win situation for everyone. I had a rice dish with salmon which was really good. You don’t get waiters coming to you, you get a tray, order, get your order and pay, then help yourself to free sauces and extras and sit down to eat. It felt a bit like a Japanese style Nando’s. Staff were lovely, manager Lolo was very welcoming, price point is definitely a plus. I’ll be definitely be going again 👍🏼👍🏼

They suddenly change the shop closing time after you have lined up for quite a while.

On last week (19/8) Fri, we were four people lining up at O2 marugame udon restaurant. At the time tat was about 7:30pm. The shop was supposed to closed at 9:pm so we started lining up. At around 7:45. There was a representative, Wao, told us that they have changed the closing time from 9pm to 8pm. I asked Wao why they didn't stop us in lining up at the beginning? We had some arguments on that but it won't do any help and just like most if not all the UK company, they don't care about their customers and they don't care if you don't come again. Well! Then we left and we would not go there anymore. We would never know if any of the marugame restaurant suddenly changed their closing time and ask you to leave after you have lined up for quite some time.

At the time we left, we couldn't find any sign saying that the store closing time was changed.
