Much of content is very poor --…

Much of content is very poor -- pseudo-science, crackpots and soap-boxes. There are a few quality authors, but for the most part you you should give no credence unless you know the subject, and even then double check it. Certainly not worth the subscription.
For it to survive they need to start applying editorial quality control.

Disappointing

I took a look at Medium and the content is really disappointing. Looks like just another social media application and not really for real writers. All hype on pseudo popular topics and no real content worth even reading. Not sure who judges the content, but it is disappointing to say the least. I was expecting to see junior or senior writers but instead all I see is social media jargon. Sad what the world has come to.

One needs to pay now to read articles by Medium!

Medium started to show its articles only to members with paid subscriptions since a couple of weeks ago. So, it is useless to non-paying members.
Then, it has a large network of sites --I don't know if they belong to it or not-- that publish the biginning of its articles --as a bait-- and direct the reader to Medium.com to read the whole articles, that is, they do themselves exactly what Medium itself does.

All the information was wrong

All the information was wrong. Highly inaccurate and done poorly. The short summary of James Watt's life looked like it was written by AI and encompassed barely half of his life and none of his legacy. The title was 'James Watt Quotes — The Man Who Invented the Steam Engine | Quote Homes' but you would have to scroll down half a page before actually seeing the quotes, none of them actually being spoken by James Watt. The first quote was spoken by James G. Watt, a completely different person to James Watt. The other quotes were not related in the slightest. Will never use again.

Disappointed

Medium used to offer a few free articles each day, but now only the beginnings of articles are visible unless you become a member. As the world moves towards a free flow of information, Medium is taking a step backwards by making information exclusively to those who can afford membership. How disappointing!

They're so awful

They're so awful! The content used to be viewable for free and it was a huge thing on the internet. I used to enjoy writing here. Now, everything is behind a paywall! The articles are often not even that good because there's no barrier to entry.

Stop with the annoying "teaser" articles! All it's doing is making me avoid any medium article in general.

God you guys are dumb.

Endless disappointment for developers

I'm a developer and I went from a regular paying subscriber to avoiding medium articles like the plague. For every tech question you get multiple medium articles coming up in google, but the overwhelming majority of them fails to be more than very a promising title with the most beginner level information they can get away with, while I guess, still earning for the clicks & scroll throughs. The occasional worthy article you find likely gets blocked by the paywall coming up, because of the amount of drivel you've already clicked that month. This is where one should start paying forward for the occasional/few exceptions, according to their business model - but still saves time and frustration to just skip them through in the search results (still made harder by medium also running under personalised domain names).

total waste of time

I read a single article on robotics and its clear the author or chat-bot that wrote it had no clue what they were talking about. total waste of time.

Bait and Switch

Bait and Switch. Medium said I could finish article with a free account. After signing up it said the author has made this available only to premium members.

Quality content, but poorly marketed

High quality and detailed content, at least in ML / AI, frequently with code. More accessible and more practical than academic research papers. The only reason why the reputation is so abysmally low here is that it is a paywalled site marketed as a free one. An account may be free, but its completely useless until you buy a monthly or annual subscription... Having said that there is free preview of a certain number of articles given for free in each period of time (rate limiting), as a well as the top percentage of each article. Call it clickbait or freemium, this is what it is - a preview functionality they use for marketing their site contents.

Medium sucks.

They are just like every other social media platform. They are quick to judge a reported comment before finding out the necessary reasons behind the comment... basically 1984 everyone into reading things about technology... and barely anything else... and there is far more subjects being writen that i am interested in... and rarely show up...

i used medium primarily to read as a pass time... but that became stale when i ended up reading the same crap. And slowly devolved into a larger pile of crap while not even taking into consideration i was interested in music theory...

Medium Charges for Content You Have Already Paid For

I had never heard of Medium until I subscribed to an author via his Patreon account. Immediately I was bombarded with stories from Medium. Turns out he publishes on Medium (which claims he has given them exclusive rights.)
I am going to cancel my Patreon subscription to that person (and tell him why) and then I guess the only way to get rid of Medium is to put it in my junk box.

I agree with everyone one here about…

I agree with everyone one here about the shady business practices of Medium. They will let read an article and just when you are getting to the good part, they will block you from reading the rest of the article. However, if you just give them your email address you can read the rest of the article for free. But this is a lie because as soon as you try and read the rest of the article it blocks you saying the only way you can is if you upgrade your account meaning pay. If you want us to pay, just say that upfront without the lies about being able to read the article for free

They scam people to pay them to continue reading.

Same as everyone one, i was reading an interesting medium story, which clearly mention at the end "you can read this article if you create a free account". well, i created a free account and yeah it was totally free just 5$/month. (That's clearly not free lol). I mean we know medium is a paid website but at least don't scam people for a subscription. that method will probably bring you new customers but you will never be a good website while doing this kind of scams.

Bait-and-switch fraud

This website engages in fraudulent bait-and-switch tactics. I open an article and am told that I can't read it unless I open a free account. I create a free account, giving medium.com my personal details, only to find that I still can't read the article unless I upgrade to a paid account.

Scam website. First it suggests that you can continue reading by creating FREE account, but once you do it, it informs you that you actually have to pay.

Also quality of most articles is low.
