I have a new Melitta Avanta coffee machine. It was over £300 and I use it daily for two cups. Yet within days it asked me to descale it even though it can't be in need of that in this hyper soft water area. During the descale the machine got jammed up and no input from me would free it up. My wife eventually found a way to clear it and start the process or more accurately to finish the job.
This morninng 22nd March 2026 I turned it on and the milk steam frother light was stuck on. Nothing I did would turn it off. The steam pipe refused to dispense steam only a stream of hot water. The user manual has no help on how to reset to factory default. No other buttons would respond and I was unable to brew any coffee at all. Water tank was full and plenty of beans in the hopper. This machine is "pants" and I no longer trust it. It has been relegated to the naughty step as being severely disabled I can't be bothered to pack it up and send it back. I've re deployed my trusty De Longhi machine and I won't be buying a Melitta machine again. I have no luck with bean-to-cup machines and Gaggia Breville an Krups all let me down just outside warranty so I am back to hands on proper coffee machines. I have much experience with coffee makers and my first was in 1969 a Breveti Robiatti Milan Mocha Pot stove top machine that had a steam pipe to froth the cappuccino. Can't use it today as it isn't compatible with Induction hobs but it did sterling service for years.
Well after just 2 days the UK customer services responded with a very helpful email and their suggestions solved the problem. They recommended dispensing hot water through the steam pipe until the tank was exhausted and then said the ON/OFF light would be flashing. So I did and it was. I waited until the light stopped flashing and then the machine was back to normal operation allowing input to all the button controls. My gripe is that none of that information is anywhere in the user guides/manuals not even a troubleshooting issue. But for customer services I'd not have been able to fix the stuck machine. So where is the logic in that? Anyhow I still maintain the De Longhi machine makes a smoother tasting coffee from the identical beans and identical filtered water but maybe it will mellow in time?

Very speedy delivery and carefully packed appliance. The user manual is clear. Initial use resulted in strong, hot coffee, but settings allow fewer beans to be used and coarser grinding to get the brew we like. Only 8 cups can be made at a time, but it is so simple to set up and make the coffee that I don't think this will be an issue.

I have not had the delivery yet, it should arrive later today.
My BIG issue is the delivery choices.
I called DPD to change the option to deliver to any neighbour. I can't according to DPD, because Melitta has requested that option. I do not want my delivery to neighbours.
I really like the filter's they have been my nr.1 choice for decades.
