Reliable plugin, but billing could be clearer
I’ve had a generally good experience using MemberPress. The plugin itself is solid and reliable, and it integrates well with WordPress. It handles memberships, payments, and access rules cleanly, and once set up properly, it runs with minimal intervention.
Where things could be improved is around billing transparency. The initial pricing is discounted, but the renewal jumps to full price, which isn’t always obvious unless you dig into the details. In our case, this caused some confusion when the annual renewal came through.
Overall, the product works well and does what it’s designed to do, but clearer communication around renewals and billing would make the experience better.
Dishonest about their renewal price
Their app is solid and does what it says but the main issue is that Memberpress are dishonest about their renewal fees and do not send reminders alerting you to their increase in prices.
The renewal fee is double the annual price and their website does not convey this message. I decided not to renew with them due to this dishonesty and lack of transparency
Poor ethics, no refund given after cancellation
Whilst using the program it was satisfactory. However I wasn't notified when the renewal came around and was subsequently charged over $500 on my card. When I realised I had been charged the amount I contacted them to cancel the subscription I was no longer using and they refused to refund the money. I get that it's in their terms and conditions, but it's just poor customer service, most other ethical companies would refund in this instance, especially such a large amount. I am disappointed.

We were looking for a simple-to-setup…
We were looking for a simple-to-setup solution that enabled members to update their annual subsriptions at the end of our membership year. We aren't upselling or targeting the general public; more a specialised corner of part of our country's rowing population. We wanted our members to have a simple process with one form to complete for either a renewal or joining us. Data became spread over WP, Kit and MP which made our reporting difficult.
We will likely be reverting to a Mailchimp, Gravity Forms and Xero implementation.

Good product, consider the cancellation policies.
Predatory cancellation policies.
I'll suggest considering one of their competitors. We used their service lightly for about two years. Unfortunately, halfway through our yearly renewal we had setbacks and had to cancel the service. While their policies does allow for a refund 14 days after renewal, I asked for a pro rata refund as I was no longer going to use the service. Note I was only asking for a refund for the period I wasn't going to use their service.
While they are fully within their right, this is the exact type of behaviour and demeanour that shows the culture they operate within. They had a chance to step up but chose not to do so.
While I can't comment on every feature of their product as I didn't use it, their money-grabbing tactics left me with a sour memory.

Update - 6/12/24
For the sake of transparency. Memberpress attempted to remove this review and flagged it for "containing defamatory content". Trustpilot said NO and allowed it to stand, rightfully so.
There is nothing in my review that is defamatory, and it is just a blatant attempt to remove negative feedback. Rather, I welcome the company to make things right and improve how they deal with parting customers.

Update 9/12/24
Instead of commenting or contacting me, Memberpress contacted Trustpilot (again!) asking to take down the review saying it wasn't genuine.
"memberpress.com has flagged your review because they don’t think it’s based on a genuine experience."
The review was removed temporarily, and I was asked to submit invoices, which I gladly did. That is all you need to know...

Update 20/12/24
I was subsequently contacted by Curt (assuming a senior), with whom I reached a satisfactory resolution. As a result, I am upping my score.
Frustrating cancellation process
I've been a customer with this company for a few years but have decided to cease services whilst we redesign our site. I've found cancelling the autorenewal to be frustrating. There are multiple screens/popups to get through with offers and warnings to scare you into remaining a subscriber. These screens are purposefully designed to make it difficult to leave (e.g. cancellation buttons that don't appear until you've checked multiple boxes). I'm sure someone from the company will reply that they are trying to offer value, and ensure customers understand that they will no longer have security updates if they stop paying - but realistically I think it's pretty plain why they do this!
I really dislike that when you sign up you are automatically opted in for yearly renewal! In my opinion, the honest approach is to ask a customer their preference when signing up (and to make it easy for them to opt out).
Based on my recent experience I will unfortunately be considering other options when redesigning my site.

I had created a problem with my account…
I had created a problem with my account renewal, completely my fault. The result…renewing to the wrong package and loosing access to my multiple licences. As I said, it was completely of my own doing and not in any way caused by MemberPress itself. Having said that, the support at MemberPress was absolutely first rate. I sent them a support ticket advising of my ‘stuff up’ and within a very short time I had a response from Predrag at support assuring me the problem would be fixed. Another message followed with a couple of steps they needed me to do, followed by a confirmation that it was all sorted. Not only that, they refunded me the money that I had incorrectly paid for the wrong renewal package. And if that wasn’t enough, they actually put me on a different plan that was way more effective for my needs and a lot cheaper than what I’d been paying. Honestly, I’ve been blown away by this experience, they really did go way beyond what they needed to and I’m most grateful to them. Next year at renewal time…I’ll pay a bit more attention to what I’m actually doing, but I have no doubt that if I encounter any problems then, or in the year ahead, they will go out of their way to assists me.
