I wanted to buy something but the offer seems to good to be true. I checked the vendor, who had an approval rate of about 85%. I noticed several comments accusing him/her of fraude, and 100% of positve comments that were all exactly the same, in text and origin. Clearly false comments to elevate his trustworthiness.
I informed Mercadolibre, and they answered me they did not see any problem.
I decided, if Mercadolibre has such low standards, that I could no longer trust them. So I tried to cancel my account. That is impossible: you need a verification code, but they don´t send it for a cancelation (the system works for login, but not for cancelation). I sought for help, but that says exactly what I did. I selected to contact them, but that leads to the help I tried already. It is not possible to contact the company (no phone or email shown), and it is not possible to cancel an account.

This platform is dangerous and rife with fraudulent schemes. Dishonest sellers operate with impunity, seemingly unpunished, as there's no effective way to report them. The reviews appear to be manipulated and don't reflect reality. Many people, including myself, have been scammed, and the administrators do nothing about it. I do not recommend this site at all. It's not secure and doesn't protect users in Costa Rica.
In my example a seller claimed free shipping for a bike from Costa Rica but instead sent it from the USA and incurred $800 in taxes doubling the price of the product.
