Travelled from California to attend…

Travelled from California to attend Mirko’s class. It was 100% worth it. Being able to extract knowledge from a great teacher is better than any book or any written form of information. Panettone is the hardest bread to make, and Mirko is definitely is a one of the Masters.

It was a very enriched experience!

It was a very enriched experience! I taught myself panettone for the last couples years between books, video or forums and I decided to do the 2 days course with Mirko. I had so many questions and got more than just answers, I got an explanation of all the processes and the logic behind it which open my eyes. I would recommend his class to anyone who’s into pasta madre, fermentation and great leavening (panettone, pandoro,..) Thanks again Mirko and hope to see you in the US!

Scammed by Pastry Chef Mirko Iannarelli — No Class, No Refund

I paid €850 for a pastry class in Italy. The chef canceled and promised a refund, but ghosted me instead.

I booked an in-person class with pastry chef Mirko Iannarelli (who promotes classes on Instagram). He required full prepayment through PayPal — but specifically requested that I pay using the “Friends and Family” option. I trusted him and complied. That was my first mistake.

A few days before the class in Italy, which I traveled from the United States to take, Mirko canceled last minute, citing family issues. He apologized and promised to refund me the €850. He even followed up via text to confirm he would reimburse me in May. When May passed with no refund, he sent a PDF and a video “gift” — the video didn’t even work. Then he stopped replying entirely.

I contacted him multiple times in June, through WhatsApp and Instagram, but got no response. PayPal could not help because the transaction was made under “Friends and Family,” which offers no buyer protection. Instagram and WhatsApp were equally useless.

I’ve saved all of our text messages, which clearly show him:

Acknowledging the cancellation

Promising to refund the full amount

Failing to follow through

To this day, I’ve received no refund, no explanation, and no apology. He has completely ghosted me.

Let my experience be your warning:

Never pay using “Friends and Family” for a business transaction

Always ask for a cancellation policy in writing

Save every receipt and message, which I did, and will be happy to share with you if you'd like to message me @camillialow on Instagram.

There are plenty of honest pastry chefs out there (Francesco De Salvo, Amaury Guichon, and Michel Ernots come to mind). But this wasn’t just bad service—it was outright dishonesty.

UPDATE: After months of silence, pastry chef Mirko Iannarelli only responded once I began sharing my story publicly.

Now, he claims that PayPal “took the money” and that his account is blocked. He says I need to file a PayPal appeal — but conveniently ignores that he asked me to pay using the “Friends and Family” option, which eliminates any buyer protection and prevents disputes. That’s the whole problem.

He says:

“I don’t make mistakes in my life.”

But the facts are simple:

I paid €850 for a class that was canceled

I have messages confirming his promise to refund me

He ghosted me for months

Now he’s deflecting blame onto PayPal

I've provided screenshots, receipts, and texts. I just want my money back.

If you're considering taking a class with him — or anyone through Instagram — don’t repeat my mistake:
