Perfect! Was able to install before arrival and was connected automatically as soon as I got off the plane. Will definitely be buying again.
Connection was great, always had service and no drop outs. Was a bit confusing to set-up but got there eventually, after that all was fine.
Mobal's slick advertising campaign hides the true picture that there is not even a regonisable Mobal shop at Haneda airport! There are no smiling salesmen or saleswomen waiting to serve you. This was my first experience of using esim abroad and I,as a 78 year old, naively expected instant service when I arrived at Haneda airport, tired after a 14 hour flight to pick up my QR code from the counter. What they have is a tiny little counter where 2 men, who spoke no English, would check my passport and hand me a piece of paper listing what I had to do to get my QR code! No technical help there!!
Then when I have done that I waited over 12 hrs to get my QR code. That was a worrying time for me as I had a domestic flight to catch the following day. Eventually the QR code was emailed to me. Not only that, I had to pay more money to receive the QR code having paid to sign up for this service before leaving UK. This was not explained to me upfront and Mobal is guilty of breaching the UK trade description act for not declaring what the customer had to pay in full for purchasing this product.
The other aspect I had not realised was that I could not add more data to the Voice + esim data package until the end of the month. This was a serious shortcoming of the Mobal package, and I had no choice but to buy yet another data only package before my Voice+10 GB package was about to run out. This was extortionate! Why was there no provision to extend the data package. Instead I had to buy another package!
The other aspect that any future customers have to realise is that only a very few Japanese people speak even the basic English and so having a Japanese Mobile phone was of dubious value. I should have selected a data only package from the outset. Perhaps even a physical sim!!
I was diasspointed with Mobal, and certainly will not be buying an esm package from them for my next visit.
I do not recommend Mobal to travellers who had not used esim packages before.
I got one of their Wi-Fi sticks and it stopped working and I went through the Diagnostics and everything but they didn't provide any support . Just disappeared . Don't use these guys they're scammers
I paid for an data only esim. They sent me an email telling me to access the QR code to instal the esim by logging into my account and clicking on the esim portal.
I clicked on the esim portal and got a message saying 'under maintenance'.
I contacted support. Support sent me an email saying "We have checked your account and can confirm that your eSIM has been successfully activated.
We have also sent a confirmation email to your registered email address with the subject line "Your Mobal eSIM is Ready!". This email contains instructions for installing your eSIM."
They completely ignore what I had told them about their esim portal not allowing me to access my QR code.
A couple of hours later I received an email from their Customer Service Manager. Mobal refunded my payment and allowed me to use the esim too. Despite the bad start, I have to say that they did treat me professionally and corrected the mistake, so I have amended my review from 1 start to 4 stars

I have lived for longer stretches of time in Japan more than once. And Mobal has been a reliable and consistent (e)SIM provider time and time again. It is easy to acquire, no hassle while setting up, and the staff is kind, able, and cooperative. Additionally, all the proceeds go to charity, but this doesn't show in the price you pay. Do you want consistent and ethical data? Mobal is there for you!

Have been travelling over 50 years. Using physical country sims but new phone does esims so did research & came up with Mobal for Japan. What a mistake. At every turn another hiccup. Now 4 days in spending over $100 in cab fares trying to get the esim qr code then getting it installed I'm into day 4 with nothing achieved. Threw in the towel & got Unami online & working in 7 minutes no help needed. Admittedly no local number which is an inconveniece, but I gave up exasperated with Mobal.
Mobal is not inexpensive, cost me a lot of lost time & money to achieve absolutely zilch. Definitely not recommended.
FYI: Added 2 days later, Mobal indicated they would refund money paid in 7 to 10 days, understanding my terrible experience in this situation & how I was & still am out of pocket.

Doesn’t work for me. When I picked up at pickup location that gave me a piece of small paper that contains activation key.
They don’t help for installation because the location isn’t Mobal blanch. Just giving paper work. And it’s not activate after pickup they take a request activation. Actual activation should be 5-6 hours later or longer. Terrible service and support. I strongly not recommend this company.

Their international roaming 5G Voice+Data eSIM does NOT work on my samsung galaxy s26 ultra. I needed a Japanese phone number while still abroad that could receive calls and texts, so I purchased this eSIM and paid for roaming. I activated the eSIM without any issues while in New Zealand. The claim is that roaming should work for voice calls and SMS regardless of country you are in. However, I couldn't even register to the local mobile networks here so there was absolutely no way to make or receive calls despite the "roaming" feature. Their Support team tried to help but after plenty back and forth, and trying all their recommendations, still nothing worked. I was still willing to give this a chance so I asked to transfer the eSim to another device in case it might just be a Samsung issue. The re-issue of an eSIM costs money but their support team said they were willing to waive the fee. To re-issue the eSIM to my iphone, I wanted to be careful when putting in the EID number so I made sure to carry out the whole process on the iphone itself and there was NO WAY I would have put it in wrongly since it was copied directly from the iPhone's settings. After paying for it (thinking the payment will be returned afterwards), the website then states the old eSIM account had been disconnected from the Samsung EID and it will take at least 24 hours to re-issue the eSIM to the newly registered device (my iphone). But to my surprise the next day, I get a push notification to my Samsung that the eSIM was reissued to the Samsung!?!! When I logged back in to my account, the EID listed was definitely NOT what I had put in using my iphone and scanning the QR results in an error since it says the eSIM has already been activated. I emailed Mobal support about this but it has suddenly been radio silent since they claimed they would waive the transfer/re-issue fee. This is despite them being very responsive when I initially reached out for help. Clearly they want you to spend more money and will not respond once you demand for money to be returned.
What a huge scam!
The only way forward is to file a dispute claim to reverse the charges.

Your product offerings are confusing to a non-tech oriented person like myself, causing me to place double orders and also to order features I don’t need. There is still a ticket I sent in that hasn’t been answered yet.

I'm extremely disappointed with Mobal's service. First, 5G simply didn't work even within central Tokyo.
But the bigger issue is what happens after you hit the 10GB threshold on the "unlimited" plan. The throttled speed afterward is essentially non-functional. I could barely send or receive a WhatsApp message. Every other app — Instagram, LINE, KakaoTalk, Google Maps, weather — was completely unusable.
On top of that, the payment structure is confusing and feels deliberately set up to extract more money: you pay once for "registration" and then separately again for the actual service. I was already uneasy that the eSIM wasn't even sent over by email at that point, and looking back at the whole process, it feels less like an oversight and more like a pattern.
Calling this plan "unlimited" is misleading at best. A connection that can't load a map or send a photo isn't "data". Any other travel eSIM I've used has been more reliable and more transparent about what you're actually paying for. I wouldn't recommend Mobal.

The Mobal Support Team made it very easy to resolve my issue. The replies were prompt and the solution was very fair. I will be back next time we visit Japan.

I have used Mobal previously, and have never had an issue with service.

This will be my third trip using Mobal SIM cards for internet while touring Japan. I have never had any issues with connectivity anywhere in Japan while using Mobal regardless as to whether I was in an urban setting such as Tokyo or Osaka or rural areas such as Iga and Takayama. I've shared my experiences with your product and have recommended it to friends and co-workers for their travels. I have always received my cards quickly, having them well in advance of my travels, taking the last minute panic out of the small details that impact day to day activities. Being connected while abroad means being available should colleagues need to get in touch as well as sharing my experiences with family and friends back home.

Brilliant service, prompt response. Absolutely questionable pricing. I lost my eSIM because Apple accidentally factory resetted my phone. So I needed to get a new eSIM (Same Number) and they wanted to charge me the price of a new eSIM. How the hell do they justify this when eSIM's hardly costs any money to re-generate. Absolutely predatory pricing. Beware of this!
Edited to 4 stars: Mobal have reivewed the charge of the esim replacement and have out of goodwill waived the charge, Whilst I still believe this should be a permanent free replacement, this is great customer service feedback. I was so close to changing to Sakura, but, as I said, Mobal's service offering has been great and their network excellent. So for me. Mobal for now!

Mobal charged my credit card. I uploaded my passport, my driving license and bank details showing my address and all details required. Yet Mobal sent another remail (with a NO REPLY ADDRESS) that I need to upload ID. I emailed their support, told them I have uploaded all the details and asked for their help. NO REPLY. Next day I receive another email (NO REPLY ADDRESS) that this is final notice to upload ID. They need Humans to read requests, and help customers, not spam them with Bot emails. Set up was straight forward and my esim has worked well here in Japan.
