Theft

I used their bikes once in Dublin; they work well.

However, I had to deposit €5 into my account to rent the first bike, and that money wasn't used for my reservation—another charge was made on top of that.

Then, when I wanted to close my account, they charged me a €4.99 fee to withdraw my €5, explaining that it was the financial company’s fee (even though the actual fee from that company doesn’t exceed €2).

This is clearly theft with impunity.
I am outraged by such practices.

I'm asking an immediate refund before taking legal action.

4.99€ fee to refund?

They are charging 4.99€ fee to issue any kind of refund, making this absolutely unfair to customers who wanted to try the service and ended up still having credits. Never using it again.

The reviews here say it all zero stars

The reviews here say it all, terrible company to deal with. Their customers parked their bikes blocking bin and disabled access in a housing estate. They were contacted every day for weeks, replied saying they will remove the bikes but they never did. Removed them ourselves to outside the estate so we could access our facilities. Zero respect for people operating a business from a private residential enclosed housing estate. Listen to the public in future.

Great service IF it was reliable.

The app is so deeply buggy. I'm not sure what constraints the company are under financially but if you can afford it, please for the love of goodness hire a UX/UI talent.

Test the app and test the service.

One shouldn't have to spend up to a minute messing with the bike to find out the battery is totaled or that the wheel wobbles etc etc.

The software is far too slow and the workflow is completely borked.

As for the logistics of the bikes why can't they be relocated to hotspots to meet demand?

Just don’t use them

If you want money to be taken from you without anything been done, if you want bikes that don’t work, if you want an app designed by idiots, then MOBY is the place for you. I have never experienced so many problems with one app in my entire life, to the point it is almost comical. If you ever rely on them to get somewhere you will be let down, so keep that in mind. Truly a piss poor organisation with an imagine portraying it to be good.

Waste of Money

I was unable to unlock the bike but as you need to have at least a balance of 5€ to ride but they are requesting 4.99 for refunding unused money it’s a total waste!

Fed up of poor quality and broken bikes

I used to rent bikes with moby regularly in Bray, Co Wicklow, Ireland but lately every time I try to rent there's an issue with the bike. Either pedals are broken or bent so it cant be cycled, or theres problems with the battery. The last few rentals, the battery was over 20%, and worked for a few minutes, but when I stopped or slowed down, it stopped working. When I've tried to start the bike again, if Im on a hill, and the battery doesnt kick in, I then end up unable to pedal as the bike is too heavy - I swerve into the road, cars have had to move to avoid hitting me, and the whole experience is extremely dangerous. The bikes are just too heavy to cycle without a battery on any kind of steep ground, and its left me stranded in the middle of busy roads, and in very dangerous situations. Please maintain the bikes, or decommission the bike so they can't be rented if they don't work properly. This has happened numerous times and I'm left trying to wheel the bike to the next station in the middle of traffic.

Unfair €4.99 “handling fee” to refund €8 of unused credit – feels like a scam

I requested a refund of €8 from my Moby Bikes wallet (for credit I hadn’t used), and was shocked to receive just €3.01 back. Moby deducted a €4.99 “handling fee” — over 60% of the total — for simply returning my own money.

This fee was not clearly disclosed when I added funds, and it feels completely disproportionate. Under Irish and EU consumer law, refund deductions must be fair and transparent — this one is neither.

Customer support was unhelpful and refused to issue a full refund, even after I pointed out the legal implications. It’s disappointing to see a company that claims to support sustainable transport rely on shady refund practices that border on predatory.

I’ve reported this to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) and will be escalating it further.

Avoid loading your wallet with Moby — they’ll keep your money even if you don’t use their service.

Terrible experience!

Terrible customer support and many hidden fees completely unjustified. They will steal your money at some point! Low quality of bikes, most of them broken and with loosen wheels.

Faulty from start to finish

My friend was in town and he rented a bike. The first one was damaged and catching the pedal against the side carriage.

The second day he rented and after we paused the ride at the 40 foot and then unpaused it wouldn't unlock. As it was outside a designated zone despite talking to the chatbot twice who stopped replying, calling support desk out of hours and then having to abandoned a journey after being told he needed to top up a further 30 euro and this would then be refunded.

The journey couldn't be ended as it wasn't in a designated drop off zone (was at 40 foot) not in Dun Laoighre despite the bike malfunctioning.

The third time we went to rent giving it one final chance 3 bikes were marked as available on Barrow Street but locked up with pad lock codes that didnt even have the unlock numbers stated so unlockable. Finally we found one and my friends bike stopped on the way into Dun Laoighre and then would not let him end the journey until 3 or 4 attempts in a Designated area.

Both times were unnecessary stress and my friend charged for this "privelege" of no service
Both times we had no alternative but to bring my bike on the dart as we could not rely on the return journey on moby apps.

FAULTY, absolute time wasting, scam to put more credit into the app, no support , no followup service and no escalation service.

I would not use with friends in town in future as only a stress unless issues are resolved and my friend is fully refunded and compensated for time wasting.

I find it absolutely disgraceful that I need to have a minimum of €5 in my wallet just to book a ride — and yet, I can’t actually use those €5 for a ride. I can’t withdraw it either, which means they’ve essentially taken €5 from every user. The only way to get it back is to leave the country, provide proof, and wait up to 12 months… all while they charge a €4.99 service fee. What a joke.

I am having an issue in login into my bike. I have contacted the support and I have been waiting a week for a resolution when in the meantime I have been logged out form my account not able to use it. After the first reply everything went radio silent and today I also recieved the survey of the interaction when my ticket is still open. I just want to use my Moby account and be able to login it is absurd that I want to spend my account money and not able to log in.

35 euros down for picking up a bike…

35 euros down for picking up a bike outside of a zone that I could not end the journey on without taking it to a designated drop off point.
Not an issue if the bike was functional but as I discovered the handle bars were broken and it couldn’t be cycled properly.

So now it was my problem as the price went up and up on the app and I felt obliged to end ride asap as there was zero online help bar an AI bot and a ticketing service that would not be seen until the following day where the amount would have exceeded 200 euro.
Then I discovered I could not end ride when I got to the destination without further topping up my account to end a ride I didn’t make.
An absolute farce.

If there is a way to make the simple task of renting a bike more problematic and expensive than Moby I’d be intrigued to see it.

SCAM

Bikes are very unreliable. Mostly damaged.
If you park incorrectly no notice is given to you, and a fine is direct debited from your card. NO NOTIFICATION, so you don't know that was an infraction and keep on doing it, so they keep on taking money. You can email, ring, and the response is always the same. Not our problem sorry, but when I get a dodgy bike, I still pay the same fare, if the bike is not functioning properly, still pay the same and then have to dispute a refund.

This app is an absolute nightmare

This app is an absolute nightmare. It constantly overcharges beyond the agreed plan, which feels like blatant robbery. On top of that, the bikes are a joke—always broken, with batteries dying even when the app claims they’re charged. It’s beyond frustrating to rely on such an unreliable system.

The lockers? Don’t even get me started. Half of them are damaged or completely unusable. How is anyone supposed to use the service when basic functionality is missing?

And the support team? They’re an absolute disgrace. It’s been over a month since I raised a complaint, and I’ve been met with silence and outright disrespect. They treat you like you’re the problem and have zero interest in fixing anything.

Honestly, this service is a scam. Save yourself the headache and avoid it at all costs until they sort their mess out—if they ever bother to do so.
