Suddenly not free

My nonprofit organization had a free Moosend account for over a year. Suddenly, without telling me, Moosend switched our free account to paid. After a long back-and-forth with Support, they allowed me a "free" trial version of our account. It only had half of our Contacts and only one of our prior mailouts. We have switched vendors.

Stay AWAY from Moosend!

Stay AWAY from Moosend. A company with terrible customer service, or care of their customers. After a huge subscription campaign, we were puzzled not to receive any subscribers. We decided to test our sign-up form (created via Moosend), and was shocked to discover NO new sign-ups were coming in. At all! After contacting Moosend, they admitted that they changed the code in the backend, rendering all subscription forms useless if they contained a ?, (in our case, 'Do you want to donate?'). This rendered our subscription useless. Their customer service didn't care and just told me to remove the ? and it would work again, ignoring the fact that we had undergone a huge campaign. No apology on their end at all. They are unfortunately, the worst out there. STAY AWAY FROM MOOSEND. One star!

Red flags with Customer Service from the start, so I went elsewhere

My first encounter with Moosend was unbelievable. I don't know if the person wasn't a native English speaker or where things went south, but basically I explained my very simple requirements for a newsletter. In return I got elaborate schematics of RSS feeds and God alone knows what all. It was beyond belief how far off base this conversation got and how fast.

In reading some of the reviews here, I realize that basic Customer Service is not their strong suit. I saw the red flags from the get go and I got my emails handled by my hosting provider. That is working out perfectly, not problem number one so far.

My advice is simple: if you can't communicate with these people from the get go, as I couldn't ,move on and save yourself a headache. It's unfortunate, but true, that in the world of the internet that there are some real pro outfits and there are some duds and I have to categorize Moosend with the latter.

Forever Free plan has a time limit

Been using Moosend's Forever Free plan for a number of years after moving across from Mailchimp because they were starting to charge us and it was quite expensive. The plan is free forever as long as we have less then 1000 subscribers. As a small volunteer run not for profit we never have too many subscribers. The system is pretty good. Really easy to get the hang of and understand, even for novices like me. Our subs have slowly grown to 600 however, Moosend have decided that forever has a deadline and they are no longer offering that package, forcing us to pay for the service. We'll definately be moving on. Thank you for the time we had together and our rating should be higher, but trust is earnt and easily destroyed, unfortunately you have destroyed ours.

Not professional.

Not professional.
Unfortunately, at start, with the free plan we saw fair performance. once paid, we saw a dramatic drop in open rate, despite the fact we didn't change anything. We tested different send schedules, but nothing helped. We compared with MailChimp: we've sent the exact same email: subject line, content, images at the exact same moment, to a random 1,000 emails we have in our list. Mailchimp performance was much higher, more than double in open rate and click through rate.

When we reached out their support, our claims got rejected. They continued to blamed us, that our domain is "burned" and we need to buy another domain to "warm it up". They didn't want to give us any refund, even not partial.
Eventually, we opened a claim through PayPal and got our money back.

If you want good performance - go to the big brands. It's more expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Like others on the reviews have stated

Like others on the reviews have stated. I wish I would have read these reviews before joining.

If I could give these guys negative 0 stars I would. My company had me to sign up with these guys on their FREE 1000 subscriber plan with unlimited emails, to see how their segmentation works. Everything checked out fine and we decided to go with a paid plan. With their paid plan you get additional features such as their SMTP for our transactional emails. We have an opt-in subscriber base of around 50k in the tutoring education niche. After upgrading our plan they decided that somehow we were in violation of their TOS and rejected our list, although our niche is not in their TOS. We were never able to send 1 email on the paid plan.

I reached out to their horrible customer support and they stated they would cancel our subscription and return our funds of $280 due to not being able to use the platform. Days and days went by. They kept saying that we should hear something soon. I kept asking when the refund would take place. After a week I asked again just for them to tell me that due to us using the FREE plan we can't get a refund on the paid plan. Although we have gotten a funds back through a bank dispute, but I decided to warn anyone else thinking of going with them. There are plenty of other Email service providers that would be better and which we've come across. STAY AWAY.

Total waste of time

We subscribed yesterday after a friend's recommendation. We chose the free plan so we could take a look around. Today i tried to connect and they blocked our acc out of the blue. We dont even have email subscribers yet, since we are launching our STEM elearning platform in the coming months. They did so without even sending us an email to let us know. Worst onboarding I ever had. They can keep the acc blocked because we are not coming back, what a waste of time...

No no no, run away from Moosend fast.

Oh dear god, I've never had to deal with such bizarre ineptitude. Was this site designed in 1998? The circles I had to go in by myself and then with tech support to try and get up and running were crazy making. When their site repeatedly rejected ALL my CRM spreadsheets, they made me pay a third party site to "clean" my lists--$25. Ok, then I uploaded again...rejected again. Then they made me go to ANOTHER third-party site to analyze how "clean" they are. Really, a total racket. I cancelled immediately. There are so many choices out there and I don't have time for this disorganization.

Betaware not fit for purpose

I really wanted to like Moosend, because it's a great interface, easy to use and with fantastic features for the price.

The problem is that the automation is not fit for purpose. It lacks obvious features such as the ability to schedule a sequence to start on a specific date and time. The only option is to trigger it at a time relative to an event such as a website purchase or a field in the database.

It's also not possible to just trigger a sequence, you have to relate it to a limited set of possible triggers. So you have to invent clumsy workarounds if you just want a sequence to start firing, such as creating a custom field called "automation", setting a trigger to fire when that field changes, then downloading the list, changing the field for all records on a spreadsheet and uploading it again. There is no trigger that just says "Start".

Starting a sequence on a specific date or setting it to fire immediately are the two most basic triggers I can imagine.

All this would be just about OK if it weren't for the fact that the automation tool frequently goes haywire and either fails to send campaigns that it should have sent or, worse still, sends campaigns that it should not have sent.

In the most recent example of several, it sent a campaign at 11:00 on Monday that should not have gone until 06:15 on Wednesday. I've been using this software for a couple of months, and it's done bizarre things like this on multiple occasions. Neither the support team nor the developers have been able to explain the behaviour of these automated sequences.

That's badly broken. As a result of failures of the Moosend software, I've been made to look an idiot with dozens of important prospects, who have in some cases received as many as 3 inaccurate emails from me, caused by software malfunctions.

It doesn't matter how nice looking or feature rich the software is, if it doesn't work and I can't trust it to send the right campaigns at the right time, it's useless.

In fact, it shouldn't even be on sale.

Disappointing

Their help information is misleading unless you're a website coding wizard.
Their marketing material is misleading and doesn't make it clear what the maximum number of subscribers is allowed for free accounts.
Has lots of good points but the basics are poor in places.

Moosend goes the extra mile

Moosend is awesome! I'm currently using their free plan because it matches my needs, but I love that they're offering automation even in the freemium plan. Not a lot of email marketing tools do that.

Plus, there's always something new going on! I'm looking forward to seeing more from Moosend, and increasing my mailing list numbers.

Their support works like a charm! I couldn't set up a few things in the beginning (totally on me), and they went above and beyond to get everything set up on their end.

Abuse & Spam from Moosend

We don't use Moosend for our marketing but we do get spammed repeatedly by people who do.

Campaigns sent from Moosend do not have any abuse header or contact. Moreover, unsubscribe requests are not honored, even after weeks. We had to place ACLs on our MTAs to stop the spam.

Last but not least, at the time of writing of this review there is no apparent way on their web site to report an abuser. Searching for "abuse" in their Help Center provides no results. They don't even provide a link to Report Abuse in their Abuse Policy page.

It might be an awesome service for those who want to send spam. But for all the other people on the net, it's a poorly managed service.

Reply from Moosend

Hello Antonis,

My name is Panos Melissaropoulos and I am COO and co-founder of Moosend.
Your complaints are extremely important to us, so I would greatly appreciate it if you can send us an email to privacy@moosend.com and compliance@moosend.com informing us about our user that is keep sending you newsletters besided the fact that you unsubscribe.

There are many different ways to contact us and it makes me worried that your couldn't find it. There is a live chat 24/5, there is whole Contact us section in our menu and if you read our terms you will see that you can send an email to privacy@moosend.com.
I will forward to my team though your request to add in our privacy terms the abuse@moosend.com email.

With regars to the fact that you cannot unsubscribe, as I mentioned before I would appreciate if you can send us an email including the headers our client that violated our terms. In the hearders you will find the List unsubscribe and that it is one-click.

Obviously this has nothing to do with Moosend, since we automatically add a one-click unsubscribe to every campaign the is being sent throurh our infrastructure.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Best regards
Panos
