Returns policy seems illegal

I ordered from this company and I made the mistake of one letter in the part number. I noticed the mistake when I opened the box and saw the serial number (the packaging does not show it). The product is brand new and never used. I literally opened the box, looked at it, and put it back. The customer services refuses to exchange the product as the box was opened. Yes I made I mistake but no I don’t believe they are being honest or fair in their returns policy.

The woman I dealt with claimed that they work with defense companies and so couldn’t guarantee the product had not been compromised.

I don’t believe for a minute that is a proper excuse. When I consult online I see the following regulation from the EU:

Under the EU Consumer Rights Directive (transposed into French law in the Code de la consommation, articles L221-18 to L221-28), you have a 14-day right of withdrawal (“droit de rétractation”) from the day after delivery.

It is tiring being treated like the bad guy when you are an honest consumer so I will consult a lawyer. Anyone interested feel free to contact me for updates.
