Don't EVER use them

They did not arrive at all on the day. No communication that they were late or not coming until 4:30pm. No concern or care, simply said they can re-schedule.

Beware: Bait-and-Switch, Delays, and Hostage Goods Tactics – Avoid at All Costs

I hired Moving Champs for a simple one-day house move on the Gold Coast after a detailed video call where they assured me it could be done in 10 hours for ~$1400 + fees. What followed was a nightmare of incompetence, deception, and aggressive tactics that turned a straightforward relocation into a multi-day ordeal costing over 300% more than quoted.

First, the bait-and-switch: Despite the video call (where I showed everything and confirmed feasibility), they arrived 4 hours late on Day 1 with a smaller truck than needed, claiming the job was "larger than anticipated." This forced extra trips and extended the move to 3+ days. They worked excruciatingly slowly, often standing around or taking long breaks, which inflated hours artificially. No disclosure that they use sub-contractors – the team seemed uncoordinated, with constant finger-pointing between movers and the office when issues arose (e.g., "Ask the office" vs. "Movers handle that").

They insisted on daily interim payments, not mentioned in their terms (which state payment "upon completion"). When I refused to pay without an invoice, they withheld them until Day 3, then issued inflated invoices that were double the quote with inaccurate hours. This felt like a deliberate ploy to pressure cash payments without proper records.

The worst: "Hostage Goods" behavior. On Day 3, after disputing the overcharges, they loaded my items, closed the truck, and drove off, refusing to deliver until I paid the disputed amount. This is classic coercion – withholding my personal property to extract inflated fees, which is illegal under Australian Consumer Law as unconscionable conduct.

Communication was circular and dismissive: Office blamed movers, movers blamed office. No accountability for damages (e.g., fridge dented) or my extra costs (penalties for delayed vacating, hiring another mover for $800 to finish).

After emails demanding resolution, they doubled down, claiming "standard practice" despite contradicting their own terms. I offered $2250 "under protest" (160% over quote) to get my stuff back, but no response – forcing me to escalate to OFT and ACCC.

This isn't isolated; reviews elsewhere echo similar scams – late arrivals, small trucks, overcharging, and holding items hostage. If you're considering them, run. Hire a reputable company with fixed quotes and AFRA accreditation instead. Save yourself the stress, time, and money.
