Post op care
-Caring of Staff on ward - The staff were very generous in their offers of help post operatively (neck surgery),
-however my blood soiled bed linens were not changed for several days,
-a bowl with clean linens was left on a chair that I did not see and could not reach.
-The hot water tap in the bathroom could not be turned off and ran 24/7 for the 5 days that I was there - a waste of water and hydro in heating the water.
- One evening at 11pm I went to the bathroom and stepped in a large puddle of water of unknown origin .Clearly there are problems with general maintenance. -Meals and menus were very good on the whole .
-The constant noise of "patient Call codes" was very disturbing especially at night. -Even though my family and I tried to enquire about discharge plans there was some confusion between staff and myself and we were given conflicting information as to who was responsible for these plans and resulted in the Convalescent Residence that was expecting me did not know when to expect me.
- On discharge I was given a clinic appointment date for 41/2wks post surgery. The whole experience took 41/2 hrs (My driver and I made an effort to arrive at the clinic at the given appointment time but even with the modern technology of computers I was not expected eg. in Xray dept. hence a very long and tiring wait).
All this to say that I am very happy to have received treatment at the MGH recently and over the years , but although the staff are obviously doing their best the "System" is clearly not working efficiently.
