Kicked off without notice

I have had Nationwide pet insurance on 7 pets over the course of 16 years. The last 2 renewals, I got a letter stating they would not be renewing my policy. My most recently renewal is a cat that has a heart defect. So, now I am unable to get different insurance for her and what they are offering is some plan that does not cover much. I have always paid my premiums. This is unacceptable. DO NOT GET NATIONWIDE for pet insurance!!!!

Dropped after 23 years being good customers

We have been with nationwide for 23 years for home and auto. They made us get a new roof to keep our coverage, which we did, and they’re still dropping us. We’ve hardly had any claims and paid out our nose for years.

43 year customer gets low amount on appraisal

My mother has been with Nationwide for her car insurance for 43 years. She has kept her car in great condition and engine work done to insure the vehicle would last. Over $5000 invested in her car in the last 3 years. Unfortunately my mother was in a terrible car accident on Feb 28, 2025. My mother's claims agent said he would contact me to get the repair receipts. The agent sent my mother the claim before he contacted me for the receipts. Honestly looking back, I almost think he did it on purpose. It almost seemed that he was trying to take advantage of an elderly woman. So this upset me, just as it would upset any other person. I saw the appraisal he sent via E-mail and noticed that it was very low for the before condition, considering all the recent work. I sent the agent an e-mail with all the receipts as fast as I could. The next day I received an e-mail from the agent asking me if all the receipts were for work completed before her accident. If the agent cared, he would have looked at the receipts. If he would have taken the time to look, he would have seen all the dates for every receipt. The agent said that the appraiser would look through the receipts and adjust the appraisal. The appraisal was adjusted by $600. The agent danced around answering questions I was asking about the value of the car prior to the appraisal. I finally got the agent to admit that the vehicle would be appraised at Actual Cash Value. Over and over again he said "what your car would be worth in you're driveway". Well, obviously the agent for Nationwide insurance and myself have different values for personally owned vehicles. My mother's SUV was far from a piece of junk prior to the accident. The amount of money they offered to total the car out barely makes half of the amount to replace the SUV for an Equivalent vehicle. The appraiser again and again keeps comparing my mother's SUV to other same brand/model SUV's with similar mileage. What they have not done is to include that without the timing gear set and guide motor repairs, the engine would not run properly. My mother already spent thousands to have this done. It's sad when big a corporation lowball their own customers, thus causing hardships for people on fixed incomes. Why would people spend their hard earned money on insurance if the dont cover repairs or replacement coverage? We have informed the agent that we wish to escalate this matter for further review and a appraisal that is accurate on car/market value. At this point, it feels like Nationwide is on Nationwide's side

Avoid Nationwide Insurance - Overpriced Rip-Off

I have had Nationwide home insurance for about 5 years and NEVER made a claim. Last year, they upped my insurance cost by about 35% (in the space of 1 year). I stupidly went along with it as I always trusted the Nationwide brand to be fair and reasonable. This year's quote however was another increase of nearly 100%! I couldn't believe it had nearly doubled despite being a loyal customer and never claiming. I immediately shopped around and a found a quote for nearly half the price with RAC home insurance. Nationwide building society is not as good as it was 20 years ago, but this insurance rip-off is by far the worse.

I would seriously suggest they stop doing insurance altogether, rather than try and rip off their customers with this overpriced product provided by through their partners at Royal Sun Alliance. AVOID both companies for insurance if you don't want to be ripped-off. I have been with Nationwide for 35 years and am VERY unhappy about this.

Nationwide are the worst bank I have experienced.

I am totally shocked and appalled at the way I was treated by this bank after it "flagged up" a transaction it did not like. My bank account was frozen and despite passing all the security checks and explaining what the transaction was for, I was literally interrogated and ordered to show screenshots of any investments I held or they would block my account which they did. This was the Fraud department, they were rude, condescending and deemed me unfit to handle my own affairs. I had not contravened the bank's rules in any way. Unsurprisingly I am changing my bank.

Outdated

Do the app and website work? Just about. Is it worth the effort? Not at all.
The app and website are just so outdated - it's unbelievable. You can't just use biometrics to make a payment to your own bank account, even. It requires the use of a card reader, and remembering a PIN for a card that I never use (and now I remember why). They need some serious work to be done in updating their tech.

Poor customer service

I am extremely disappointed with the service I received from Nationwide.
I was fortunate enough to pay off the balance on my credit card and closed the account.
Several weeks later I received a letter asking for monies in regards to interest on the account.
I contacted the credit card department and was greeted by a very rude gentleman who stated 'well you will have been told this when you closed the account '. I advised Several times that I had not been given any such information but the rudeness continued.
I was put through to a lady, Miriam (i think she was called) took the money. At this point I ask if I could place a complaint about the poor service I have received & rude customer service. She rang me back to state that as a 'gesture of goodwill' they would refund the monies. No offer of apology for the treatment is received and no acknowledgement that the matter would be reviewed.
I am still waiting for the funds to be returned to my account.

Good website, everything else is bad

They have a good website; everything else is terrible. Their rates are way too high and during the years that they covered my house, the one claim I filed with them was a nightmare. They lied, cheated and did everything possible to adequately cover the costs of the damages. Then, after being with these thieves for 31 years, they had the gall to charge me a fee for changing insurance providers. Never again.

Terrible and dirty practice!!

Terrible and dirty practice!!! A 94 year old lady hit her car to the home I was living, I was just 3 feet away from the side from the point of the hit!!! My camera and drone and phone were trashed, Some how I found my broken phone and called 911. Emergency service came and took care of every thing and told to leave the home and not habitable until a sound structural check. I left the place immediately. When I claim that lady's insurance (Nation wide) they realized I do not have lawyer. So they seriously played with me and told me from the property damage I will only compensated my phone since I have broken phone image. I gave all the pic and bills of my camera and drones to verify they were mine but since no one was allowed to go inside, I were unable to get the pic of my damage things, and they said, since I don't have pics of my damaged items they will not cover it at all. Sounds like even though your alive or died does not matter, you must have the pics of the damage. I also told her if they can cover at least half the price, but she said no-no-no. Until you are paying your monthly payment, they can and stay in nice sleep, but when it happens, they have all the excuses from every where. the agent dealing with this is Brittany McCorkle.

Customer service appalling
I could not get into my account with my card reader which I had done many times before but it was saying it did not recognise me. So I called up the help service
Well that was a complete waste of time I still was unable to get in - they were very condescending and unhelpful so I said to sending me a link to get into the banking app
"Thank you for your interest in our digital demos. Here’s the link you asked for to the Enrol on the Banking app demo.
By clicking the link, you’ll also have access to over 60 other demos" I don't want 60 other demos. All I want to do is to get into my account now.
This bank has the worst service I have ever come across don't bother with them.

Really shocked and upset by Nationwide

Really shocked and upset by Nationwide. I’ve banked with them for over 20 years. I currently have 4 or more accounts with thousands of pounds deposited. I was trying to move £550 form flex account to my current account in HSBC - I’d moved funds many times between these accounts and security was verified twice. On this occasion as my card reader did not work I encountered an issue, I still do not know why the transaction was randomly flagged. After over 1/2 hr the man on the phone told me I would have to travel to the nearest branch over 5 miles away (I told him I had no car). He had the authority to move £500 by telephone banking but refused. Totally stocked and appalled to be treated this way. Well I’ll be moving all my money then to a bank who employs staff capable of providing professional Customer Service in a timely manner. Avoid Nationwide at all costs.

Rip off merchants

Rip off merchants. As you can see below they don't even bother to reply to posts.
Doubled our premium last year despite no claims, so reduced cover to make premium more palatable.
Now have doubled again so can't reduce cover any further.
Shant be renewing.

Astounded at the lack of care and…

Astounded at the lack of care and blatant lying by both Nationwide insurance and the company they sell policies for CES home emergency cover.
Agree to what is expected under policy wording twice on recorded call then retract offer and refuse to pay for anything .
5 days now with no heating or hot water , sub zero temperatures .Who will be responsible for costs if pipes burst due to no heating in house .Escape of water causes catastrophic damage to property structure ,belongings and mental health .
If this were to happen it won’t be few nights in a hotel as house is inhabitable due to no hot water or heating it could be months in addition to replacing full house contents redecorating and repairing structural damage .Perhaps Nationwide home insurance or CES would like to reconsider there decision and do the right thing

Told me it would take till 5pm the next day to send it!! It's 2025 and they are the only bank who cannot do external transfers unless it's an emergency and then it takes over 24 hours!! Absolute joke
