I have set up dozens of WiFi boosters, a few NetGear and several other brands and models. If you take the time to understand how they work, their limitations, as well as the environment the existing WiFi access point is operating in, you can figure out if they will meet your expectations. A booster needs to be placed where it receives a usable signal from the access point, which usually means it needs to be located within 10 meters from the primary access point where it has few obstructions between the two devices. It has been my experience that a sub $50 booster provides a usable signal in about half the sized area of a full function access point, so I recommend being within 5 meters of the access point.
