I have been waiting on a withdrawal from my account since 27th April and the entire process has been a complete nightmare. Every single response takes multiple days, so what should be straightforward has been dragged out for weeks.
I’ve been made to jump through every possible hoop. Despite having a secure online account with an option to update personal details, any changes simply sit as “processing” before reverting back with no notification or explanation whatsoever. Be very wary of this.
I was then asked to send HARD COPIES of my ID, proof of address and bank statements through the post, only to be told they then needed additional time to “scan” the documents before sending out some sort of verification code. The whole system feels completely outdated and unnecessarily overcomplicated.
Communication has been terrible throughout and it genuinely feels like the process is designed to make withdrawing your own money as difficult and time-consuming as possible.
After 6-7 years as a customer, I’ve now requested that they withdraw all remaining funds and close my account entirely. Absolutely shocking experience. Avoid at all costs.

Simple instructions and process to complete my online request. Unlike some financial institutions who make a withdrawal as difficult as possible, this was straightforward and sent confirmation almost immediately.

I have been with NBS for about 4 years now and have been satisfied with my dealings both in house/ face to face and on line. I use the Whickham branch. The fact that this is the only building society/ bank in Whickham tells you everything. Competitive rates and good financial products. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

I’ve been a customer of Newcastle BS for couple of years and previously found their rates and service quite good.
However, it’s disappointing to see that some of their best rates are now only being offered to selected customers i.e. those in local areas.
As an existing customer, it doesn’t feel fair that better deals are not available to everyone. This approach makes loyal customers feel overlooked.

In 2026, there’s no reason why offers like
6 Month Variable Saver (Issue 4) 4.15%, should be restricted to physical branches only. With all the advancements in technology and digital banking, its outdated to expect customers to travel long distances just to open an account in order to get a good deal.
Offering these deals online would not only be more convenient, but also more inclusive, allowing all customers, regardless of location, to benefit equally from the best rates.
I’d like to see Newcastle BS reconsider this approach and make their best offers available to all customers, online and in branch. It would go a long way in showing that they truly value all their customers, not just those in certain areas. Thank you.
